Following the principles of symmetry to a T, Ven Studio Architects designed this Washington, D.C.-area bedroom for utmost visual and physical ease. Even the door handles on the custom closets flanking the bed are mirror images. The rug, bench and artwork span both vertical halves of the design for continuity, and their progressively smaller widths create a pleasing balance.
Prepare for summer guests. Before guests arrive, be sure to clear out your own personal items, make up the beds with fresh sheets and set out a stack of fresh towels. Small extras such as bottles of water, a basket of travel-size toiletries and a card with the house Wi-Fi password will be much appreciated. If you host frequent overnight guests, consider adding a trundle bed or bunk to make the most of the space, especially if you know you’ll be having kids visiting.
Halcyon Interiors gave this Virginia bedroom such a relaxing vibe that you might never guess how hard it’s working at saving space. Shallow floating shelves sub for nightstands. Sconces hung on the built-in’s backing nix the need for table lamps. A slat wall adds depth but not bulk. The sage-and-wood palette recalls a plain that stretches as far as the eye can see. The most-saved bedroom photo from the past three months exudes calm. The design, by Anne Brewer of Lewis Birks, was part of a renovation to convert a prewar Brooklyn, New York, apartment into a stylish pied-à-terre for a single father who frequently travels to New York for business. The bedroom features a pair of paintings that depict two cottages set in a snowy world of soft white and gray. The peaceful color scheme expands from the bedroom to the rest of the apartment, with accents of white, gray, brown and blue appearing throughout.
