Obviously no hearth and add rustic wood above... but thoughts on the shelving area? I was envisioning about 18" wide with the opening bottom level with the bottom of the fireplace (up 18" from floor) and approximately 5' in height. Will send sketch by email. We could also incorporate the mantel into the shelving as here.
