Mark Spillane, owner operator of Elevated Outdoors has chosen the absolutely perfect company name to describe what and how he does for his clients. People like us come to Mark to have him elevate the look, feel, smell and sounds of our outdoor spaces, whether they are the urban rooftops of NYC or the rural water fronts of eastern Long Island. In our case, Mark worked with both our city spread and our country tread, and turned them both into the delightfully dreamy and use-full green spaces that suited our lifestyles and imaginations. Mark worked with us to pin point our favorite plants and trees (that worked with each unique environment) implemented our agreed upon designs, and did them one better by adding design for seamless seating areas, shade retreats, state of the art irrigation, night lighting and even sound design...all within our particular budgets and timelines, paying special attention to coop/condo rules and working closely with fantastic builders. We've been working with Mark for almost 20 years and it has been of enormous pleasure to do so. We would not have had the spectacularly beautiful outdoor spaces that we have now without his attention to detail (he really listens) his great taste, his top notch venders and his obvious passion for what he does.

I highly recommend working with Iris! Iris listens and is very easy to communicate with and really pays attention to deliver the best result at a reasonable price. Iris is also very flexible. We needed to delay a major piece of the project on very short notice and then restart and complete it on equally short notice. Iris took it all in stride. Iris was completely understanding when we had to delay and got the work done on time when we did have the "go ahead" to proceed. The work was meticulous and clean up was just perfect. And did I mention, the results were AMAZING! People were literally stopping and taking pictures and asking for the contact information for who we used. We hired Iris Kaplow Landscapers to provide landscaping services for our co-op building on Riverside Drive (UWS). Iris is very responsive, provided us a proposal quickly and answered all my questions along the way. Her proposal to maintain our street level shrubs and replace perrenials throughout the year was reasonable and detailed. The plantings for all four seasons were creative and beautiful. The Landscaping Committee received many compliments! When we needed to make adjustments with the plantings during the year, Iris was flexible and understanding. Iris's deep knowledge and get-it-done attitude is just what you need for a project like ours: a six year old roof terrace in NYC that needed revival. She marshaled first rate professionals to do the parts of the job that went beyond her scope -- hauling away old trees and soil, and fine tuning the watering system. We have said goodbye to the two companies that had supported our garden and are working work with Iris and her specialists from here in.

I can only say favorable things about Iris and her dependable crew. When our new brownstone included a much neglected terrace, we fretted over how it could be brought fully to life. Iris and her team have implemented a master plan that includes year-round greenery and seasonal plants that make our terrace and side green house a delight to behold 365 days a year. Spring and fall are ur favorite seasons, but even the winter months glow with Christmas lights and stunning boxwoods. They also installed water, meaning minimal upkeep by us. Iris Kaplow recommended and installed the very best, simplest, most attractive, iconic and hearty plants to grace the exterior of two of our SoHo New York City Co-op's historic, landmarked, cast Iron and brick buildings. The result was spectacular. As a result, we have a "green wall" of 6 x 4 ft. trellises upon which gorgeous ivy has climbed and thickened over a very short period of time. The ivy planted beneath the trellises spills over and and down toward the sidewalk, softening the perimeter of the facade. Since we installed these planters our green wall has become a magnet for fashion photo shoots, lovers stealing a smooch, and hip hop artists recording their first songs...as well as a "tree bathing" type experience for co-op members on their way in and out of the buildings. We highly recommend Iris and her talented staff.

Our co-op has used Iris’ service for over 10 years, and we are very pleased with the partnership. We have a good deal of space that is landscaped and includes two garden “wells” along the front of the building, a rear courtyard with seating areas, flower “boxes” along the entire side of the building, tree pits and most recently, we’ve started to landscape the roof deck. Iris -- and Mark -- are creative in their design, providing a mix of texture and color that is very pleasing to the eye. They are very responsive and mindful of costs, working within the budget provided. We’ve been unfortunate in losing plantings during LL11 work and Iris and Mark have helped us to save what we could and replant in an economical way. I highly recommend Iris Kaplow Landscapes.

Iris and Mark did an amazing job revamping the two terraces on our apartment. Not only did they turn the terraces from a mess into beautiful spaces, they did it with thoughtful attention to the aesthetics of our apartment and our own personal style. Our Greenwich Village Coop started using Iris Kaplow Landscapes, Inc in Spring 2017. Our garden, which is the focal point of our building, has been transformed. Kaplow Landscapes has implemented the use of Spring and Fall Annuals with our existing Evergreens to develop a beautiful and consistent flow to our garden. Iris Kaplow and her team are incredible. I worked with them to take my garden from a weed patch to a beautiful garden that we designed together. Iris was able to help identify plants, shrubs, and a design that would fit my life and schedule. She has also worked with me to install an irrigation system to insure the flowers were watered while I was travel. In addition, she and her team have maintained and enhanced my garden over the last 5 years. The garden has appeared in editorials for New York magazine as well as featured on television. It is also important to note that my garden is impossible to get to from the street, so she and her team have brought every plant and supply through my entire home with out any mess or damage. Her work has brought me so much happiness over the years, and she is the easiest and most collaborative partner I have!

Iris Kaplow joined us earlier this year and has executed our Spring, Summer and Fall plantings. These include the tree wells flanking the building and our rooftop garden. The variety of color, size, and texture of the planting beds that surround the pool, surprises the senses as well as providing serenity, as they go through the changes of Spring, to Summer, and into Fall. The woodlands shade garden is a perfect place out of the sun for a cool walk. The formal garden is a perfect place for quiet moments of meditation. Iris continues to seasonally re- design and re-plant to meet the needs of the growth and changes of nature . The first installation of this plan was instituted in 2001. The cost over time is approximately $100,000. Iris' respect and understanding of her client's needs and individuality, her creativity and knowledge, and the finished product, presented within budget and timeframe as promised...make her an outstanding professional, I highly recommend. Six years ago, Iris Kaplow designed a beautiful, lush garden bordering the front of our large co-op building. In spite of its location in the dense, busy Union Square area and the limitations of a relatively narrow but long space as well as the challenges of city planting, Iris created a true garden. We didn't want just Boxwood hedges; we wanted flowering plants and plant variety and seasonal diversity. And Iris delivered: we have a visually arresting garden that our co-op residents absolutely love. And that passer-bys literally stop in front of to enjoy. We could not be happier. In addition to her extensive horticultural knowledge and design sense, Iris is an absolute pleasure to work with. She is a true partner, committed to our building's needs and satisfaction. She is a success by all measures.

Iris did the landscaping at our Hamptons House. I handed her quite a mess, but she was able to not only replace most of what was there, but incorporate some of the existing plants into the new design. She has exquisite taste, and we couldn't be happier with the landscaping and beautiful garden she created for our family to enjoy.

Iris has been the landscaping professional for both a NY city balcony and an East End home. The balcony is challenging, along the Hudson so very strong winds, and home has a lot of different shading issues to deal with. Iris has been the key to making this all work. First, very thoughtful and knowledgeable on the initial design. Knows her plants and has a good vision of where to go. Second, excellent on execution. Shows up when she says, gets the work done in a timely way, and leaves the place looking great. She is always accessible on email and phone, comes when needed, and has a deep bench of folks she works with. Third, great pride in her work. Comes by outside of necessary appointments to check up on the plantings, and has a critical eye so if something is not right she stays on top of it. For us, landscaping is very important and we spend a lot of time and resources on it, and Iris is a great quarterback for what we do. The forms asks for a project date, but after initially getting to know Iris (and replacing another landscaper with her), we have had her give us seasonal contracts for 2012, 2013, and again will in 2014.
