We had brick entry walls that were built when our house was originally constructed almost 30 years ago. Over the years, they were weathered and in need of repair/replacement. We reached out to several contractors who just wanted to replace the walls with new brick. We wanted a different look, natural stone. Others were not interested in a more complex job. Aneta and Chris were quite the opposite. Their showroom had numerous stone samples. Even so, we didn't quite see what we wanted. There was a brochure that had what we thought we had wanted. Aneta arranged for us to visit the quarry and see the stone in person. The job was completed in about 5 days including demolition/removal of the old brick and construction of our new stone entry walls. Their head mason is an old-world master. He hand cut these 80 pound pieces of stone to fit one by one. The job site was always clean and when the job was over, you could not tell there were over 7 tons of stone involved. The finished project looks amazing, and we enjoy admiring our stone entry walls. You’re in good hands with this team.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Homeowners BEWARE. We hired general masonry in 2021 for a chimney repair. When they came out to inspect our chimney they gave us a quote for the chimney but also additional work that they recommended us to do. Aesthetically, our Tuckpointing around our house was not eye pleasing. The colors were off and the work looked like it needed to be done. So we agreed to move forward with the project. After the job was complete, the chimney looked okay. The brick didn’t match our existing bricks. General masonry said “our house is old and the brick was not available.” We have 2 chimneys so now 1 is a “newer” brick and our original chimney is a different color. Not a big deal. Moving forward, our Tuckpointing…. They did an awful job. They forgot to patch up some areas and had we not mentioned it to them, they wouldn’t have even known. It was “extra work” for them to come out to finish the job. The “new material” they used, does not match. They told us “it takes time for it to fade and it will match.” So we waited. A year and a half has passed and the Tuckpointing is cracking and it is worse than what it was before hiring general masonry. I called general masonry to see how we can fix this problem and if they warranty their work. They came out and blamed it on our foundation. We got several different quotes from other companies stating, it’s not our foundation but really poor workmanship from general masonry. So I called general masonry again and they are now trying to invoice us for coming back out to inspect their work! This company is a joke! In pictures their work looks decent but working with them is a nightmare. They will not fix their mistakes, they do not warranty their work, and they will argue with you and waste your time and money. We are currently working with another masonry company to fix this issue.

We wanted to create a concrete patio and walk way. We sent out for quotes to a number of local concrete contractors. General Masonry gave us the best quote - and we’re the most responsive. Chris came out and took measurements. Next we me with Aneta at their convenient showroom on Waukegan Rd near Dundee Rd in Northbrook. While there we saw some awesome bluestone porcelain tiles and decided to also do our tired front porch. Their crews were polite, did great work, took care around plants and did a great job cleaning up too. We couldn’t be happier with the way our patio, walkway and front porch look. We definitely recommend giving General Masonry your consideration if you are contemplating concrete or stone work.

I used General Masonary for Chimney rebuilding work this fall. My interactions with Aneta Szulakiewicz, CEO/President of the company was very pleasant and professional. The estimations were done on the day as promised and they completed the work little ahead of time, accommodating the urgency that I had in completing the project - rebuilding the top section of the chimney and fixing other spalling bricks and tuck pointing areas with missing mortar. Overall I am very happy with the professionalism in their approach and the work done. They had to use some more bricks than originally quoted, but they did not charge me more and honored the original quote. I would highly recommend General Masonry Constructions.

Not only did they supply the bricks they also guided me on how to complete it in the best possible way myself and even assisted in material needed calculations. GMC did a 700 sq. ft. patio for us in Northbrook and did a fantastic job. They started the project on time when they told us they would start and the crew was extremely meticulous on their work. Chris was on the job site every day (several times a day) to check on the crews progress as well as quality. He was always quick to answer any questions/concerns. General Masonry Construction helped us out in a very difficult situation: we had thin brick on metal sheets installed around the house and on a tall chimney that gave multiple cracks due to faulty installation. While other companies chickened out or tried to overcharge us with no warranty, General Masonry suggested the best way to resolve the issue, showing they really know what they are doing (Chris, the project manager is an engineer by education). They completely redid the chimney using more solid mortar and lath installation and replaced cracked brick on the corners of the house. The best thing about them: they were hard working and completely honest, having our best interests in mind. We are very grateful for their excellent work!

He gave me a real estimate for the rebuilding of the chimney and stuck to the estimated amount. The job was completed within the time frame it was said was going to be done. Have used General masonry many times over the last 5+ years. They have done indoor chimney work, outside stone step work, stone deck replacement, stone walkway replacement, weatherproofing, tuck pointing, and sealing for us. Every job was completed with professionalism and in a timely manner. We rarely had to wait long to get our appointments on the schedule. While they do seem very busy they always make you feel like their most valued customer. Aneta and Chris both answer all questions I might have with detail and extensive knowledge of their craft. We had a decent sized project with a variety of different masonry work around the house all of which was done by General Masonry and we are very pleased with their work. The exterior around our house looks amazing and they were able to find our rare stone to match to existing facade which is what kept us from contacting someone sooner for the project. The owner is very strict and will not give out many discounts but at the same time very professional and she knows what she is charging for. We are very glad that we were able to find them and we would strongly recommend them to all of our family members, neighbors, and friends.

We needed a small masonry job done near our fireplace so we could order a fireplace door in time for the holidays. I called General Masonry and Aneta got back to me quickly. General Masonry Construction did an excellent job on the stone work for our stand alone shed/ garage. General Masonry has skilled and professional workers that truly create a beautiful product. I appreciated the great communication and the fair cost for such a great workmanship.

Between the sidewalk and the street sat my old, asphalt driveway apron. It needed to be replaced by a new concrete one. I contacted the contractor who promptly submitted a reasonable bid which I accepted. The contractor had to obtain a permit from the village, comply with local code and work with the village inspector. This entailed posting a bond, which the contractor did on my behalf with its own funds. The contractor kept me posted on progress and was very responsive to all my inquiries. As you can see from the photo, the job was performed very well. I am happy with it and offer my recommendation.

I hired General Masonry to fix 3 chimneys around my house as well as to build a patio and enlarge my driveway with uniock bricks. They performed the jobs very efficiently and professionally. The crew that worked on my house were exceptional. They were hired to fix some cracked bricks and tuck pointing throughout the exterior of my house. They were very professional, did great work, and went above and beyond what was asked of them. Not only was the work complete, they removed all debris and left my house looking great. I would highly recommend using this company. My only issue was some miscommunication during the initial process of getting the work arranged with the office. It was eventually worked out, but it added some extra stress to the project. They made up for it with their work. All in all, great company and service.

What a group of professionals and their work was reflected in their professionalism. I had concrete repair, chimney repair and tuck pointing done to my home in a very timely manner with no issues. Our garden club hired General Masonry Inc.to replace a stone pillar that was leaning due to problems with the foundation. They took the pillar down, cleaned and re-used the stones, created a new foundation and rebuilt the pillar. It looks great. I was especially impressed with the company and how they worked with the village of Wilmette. Often, obtaining permits and follow up electrical work, which was the village's responsibility, takes time. General Masonry Inc. was on top of the communication among all the involved parties and our pillar had electricity within a few days of its completion. I highly recommend them for your next masonry project.
