My parents kept everything - cancelled checks, credit card statements, every tax return. Please, for your children's sake, do not keep these things longer than you need to. I had a lot of papers to go through when my parents passed on, and a lot of shredding!

Tricia, Social security lists what you made every year since you started working. They send them out, but only every few years. It is what they use to determine what you will quality for upon retirement, but it shows you what you made and this would meet one of your needs seeing how far you have come.
