Tricia, Social security lists what you made every year since you started working. They send them out, but only every few years. It is what they use to determine what you will quality for upon retirement, but it shows you what you made and this would meet one of your needs seeing how far you have come.

Do not discard annual W2 forms. Social Security records can be incorrect and difficult to correct without documentation.

If you own a small business and have equipment you need to save the information about each item so you can depreciate it for your taxes.
