This homeowner moved all of her wonderful furniture and accessories from her previous home in Atlanta, and it all fit beautifully in her new home. However, she needed window treatments to complete the spaces. In the Sitting Area, we added linen drapery panels with a classic Greek Key decorative tape running along the leading edge. We also added pillows to the sofa and a geometric rug to ground the coffee table. The homeowner did renovate the Kitchen when she purchased the home. It is a lovely classic white Kitchen so we added a punch of color in the bay area with our cornice boards. The oversized paisley pattern looks fabulous on the boards. All of the spaces are open to each other; however, we did go a little more formal in the Dining Area. This classic damask pattern on a linen fabric works perfectly with Sherwin Williams' Balanced Beige (SW7037) on the walls. We added the subtle patterned rug under the dining table which complements the beautiful runner in the Entry. In the Guest Bath, we added a faux flat valance in a fun medallion pattern. And don't forget about your Laundry Room. Since we have to be in there, we might as well make it warm and inviting like the rest of our house. Love the embroidered floral pattern on this fabric! Fabrics add warmth to any space and reinforce your color scheme. This was a great opportunity to complete this beautiful home. Enjoy!

The newly designed great room emerged after 2 separating walls were removed, to create space for a billiards room, living room and dining room space. Our homeowners wanted a touch of bling, which we added with the chandelier, and the tufted chairs suited their style perfectly with cozy elegance. The dining room formerly had a small window, but we suggested french doors that open to the patio to add light and elegance. Our favorite detail is the large scale patterned window treatments on the brushed nickel hardware.

Located on farmland in McLean, Virginia, the American Farmhouse balances the expected comforts of a new home with the bucolic beauty of an old farmhouse. The final site plan still has evidence showing parallel courses of the barn’s destiny. The house mass is broken and lowered so that the home can remain secondary to the monolithic barn structure. Earthy and elemental materials are selected for the home that reference the barn without directly mimicking it. Wooden members found inside the barn and from other barns bridge ceilings and are used in floors along with rustic slate adding to a sense of simplicity to the farmhouse design. The age and patina of the barn is reflected in the house’s textural use of board and batten and field stone layered similar to stone foundations. The original development plan was to demolish the existing barn and construct three suburban homes. Part of an endangered breed, as one of the few remaining barns in the area, it was originally viewed as a challenge in a luxury home construction with several difficulties posed to the impending project: it would be expensive to renovate, vulnerable to demolition, and threatened by urban sprawl. However, instead of trying to alter or destroy the barn, the structure was fully embraced into the traditional architecture project as a centerpiece and was used as the inspiration for the home. The new house was sited parallel to the barn so that views to the barn gable were accessible.

With the lower ceilings in this cottage basement we had to figure out how to maximize the bunk space without banging heads. This box mount on the floor solution did the trick. The column adds support and makes the bunks appear to be floating. The stained wood ladders that become safety rails are just one more detail that the builder and his sons added to the mix.

This kitchen at Sunset on St. Croix, a rustic modern luxury home, pairs antique white oak flooring underfoot with a glimpse of weathered antique box beams along the ceiling edge. Up the ante of your bachelor's retreat (and alternative rooms) aesthetic by adding a meticulously stylised cornice boards. The cornice boards in this house includes (2) different materials, an upholstered wood top molding and absolutely symmetrical handicraft on the curtains. Also, the (4) animal skin wing-backed chairs square measure superbly adorned with nail-heads that are carried throughout the design. This bachelor retreat features a stunning pendant and hand-tufted ottoman table. This house is warm and welcoming and perfect for intimate conversations amongst family and friends for years to come. Please take note - when using cornices, one should decide what proportion return is required. Return is the distance your material hangs away from the wall. Yes, this additionally affects the proportion. Usually, return is 3½ inches. However, larger or taller windows might need a deeper return to avoid the fabric from getting squashed against the wall. An example of a mid-sized transitional formal dining area in Houston, Texas with dark hardwood floors, more, however totally different, large damask wallpaper on the ceiling, (6) custom upholstered striped fabric, scroll back chairs surrounding a gorgeous, glass top dining table, chandelier, artwork and foliage pull this area along for a really elegant, yet masculine space. As for the guest chambers, we carried the inspiration from the bachelor retreat into the space and fabricated (2) more upholstered cornices and custom window treatments, bedding, pillows, upholstered (with nail-heads used in the dining area chairs) headboard, giant damask wallpaper and brown paint. Styling tips: (A) Use nail-heads on furnishings within the alternative rooms to display a reoccurring motif among the house. Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary concrete floor and brown floor great room remodel in Milwaukee with a two-sided fireplace and white walls

For the eat-in kitchen we started with the Hunter Douglas Silhouettes on the windows to soften the harsh Florida light that can ruin furniture and floors within months. As additional decoration we added plain cornice boards in turquoises and browns with a half-inch cord in a contrasting color. The table and chairs were a great find at a local store and the mixture of stainless steel and wood table with the leather and wicker chairs give a modernity to what could be a beach look. The chandelier was a favorite. Made by Schonbek, this modern piece is covered in multi-colored Swarovski crystals which throw rays of light around the kitchen at night. Photographer: Rolando Diaz
