Dymondia margaretae 'Silver Carpet' is a tough, low water ground cover that co-mingles beautifully with other low water, drought tolerant plants. And it takes foot traffic as well. This is an example of a contemporary landscaping in Los Angeles.

Colored concrete was cast in place for a front walk softened with creeping thyme. What used to be thirsty lawn in the parking strip was replaced with a carpet of very drought-tolerant Dymondia groundcover. Designed by Stephanie Curtis, Landscape Architect. Installed and maintained by Curtis Horticulture, Inc.

APLD Silver Award Winning Landscape 2021. Dymondia ground cover filled in. An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary drought-tolerant and partial sun front yard concrete paver and wood fence garden path in Orange County.

Lagoon-side property in the Bel Marin Keys, Novato, CA. Entertaining and enjoying the views were a primary design goal for this project. The project includes a large camaru deck with built-in seating. The concrete steps and pavers lead down to the water's edge. I included a sunken patio on one side and a beautiful Buddha statue on the other, surrounded by succulents and other low-water, contemporary plantings. I also used Dymondia ground cover to create a natural pathways within the garden. This project was just completed. More photos will be included in Spring when the plantings fill in.
