This little girls bedroom started out as a playroom before she was born. You can still see remnants of the former room in the carpet tiles and built-in toy storage. We began the transformation with a pink ceiling that runs down the wall about 18", grey walls below to help dilute the brightness a little and provide a backdrop for other pops of color. This antique bed was drug out of her great-grandmothers attic, as well as the dresser and dressing table. They were all given some much needed love with bright paint colors to match the little girls personality. A window seat with toy storage below was fixed with a purple seat cushion, throw pillows, and a glass bird in a pink birdcage. Wrapping paper was glued below the window seat and on the cabinet doors as wall paper to provide a little pattern in the room. Original kids artwork as well as calendar photos are framed throughout the room. A body pillow creates a comfortable headboard and a colorful, butterfly pattern (which is where most of the colors for the room were pulled) adorn the bed with all white bedding.

My clients had outgrown their builder’s basic home and had plenty of room to expand on their 10 acres. Working with a local architect and a talented contractor, we designed an addition to create 3 new bedrooms, a bathroom scaled for all 3 girls, a playroom and a master retreat including 3 fireplaces, sauna, steam shower, office or “creative room”, and large bedroom with folding glass wall to capitalize on their view. The master suite, gym, pool and tennis courts are still under construction, but the girls’ suite and living room space are complete and dust free. Each child’s room was designed around their preference of color scheme and each girl has a unique feature that makes their room truly their own. The oldest daughter has a secret passage hidden behind what looks like built in cabinetry. The youngest daughter wanted to “swing”, so we outfitted her with a hanging bed set in front of a custom mural created by a Spanish artist. The middle daughter is an elite gymnast, so we added monkey bars so she can cruise her room in style. The girls’ bathroom suite has 3 identical “stations” with abundant storage. Cabinetry in black walnut and peacock blue and white quartz counters with white marble backsplash are durable and beautiful. Two shower stalls, designed with a colorful and intricate tile design, prevent bathroom wait times and a custom wall mural brings a little of the outdoors in.

Modern Bedroom Set Silk by Huppe
Made in Canada
The Silk Bedroom by Huppe is manufactured in birch veneer specially selected, which is timeless and sophisticated. The case goods repeat the lines of the bed, giving a sense of balance to the collection. The headboard consists of 5 distinct sections with architectural details that let daylight or optional led lighting pass through. The Silk bed is available with wooden slats platform or a wooden panels platform on which a mattress can be used without a box spring. Optionally, the set also offers a dresser, chest and nightstands to give the bed a comfortable storage system. The drawer interiors are hand stained with a silky finish that protects the contents. The drawers close softly and quietly thanks to hidden self-closing slow motion slides. Customers are ensured that this product, designed by Joel Dupras and manufactured in Canada by a passionate team, is unique, authentic and of top quality. A perfectly proportioned story and a half cottage, the Farfield is full of traditional details and charm. The front is composed of matching board and batten gables flanking a covered porch featuring square columns with pegged capitols. A tour of the rear façade reveals an asymmetrical elevation with a tall living room gable anchoring the right and a low retractable-screened porch to the left.
Inside, the front foyer opens up to a wide staircase clad in horizontal boards for a more modern feel. To the left, and through a short hall, is a study with private access to the main levels public bathroom. Further back a corridor, framed on one side by the living rooms stone fireplace, connects the master suite to the rest of the house. Entrance to the living room can be gained through a pair of openings flanking the stone fireplace, or via the open concept kitchen/dining room. Neutral grey cabinets featuring a modern take on a recessed panel look, line the perimeter of the kitchen, framing the elongated kitchen island. Twelve leather wrapped chairs provide enough seating for a large family, or gathering of friends. Anchoring the rear of the main level is the screened in porch framed by square columns that match the style of those found at the front porch. Upstairs, there are a total of four separate sleeping chambers. The two bedrooms above the master suite share a bathroom, while the third bedroom to the rear features its own en suite. The fourth is a large bunkroom above the homes two-stall garage large enough to host an abundance of guests.

Behind the central wall in the home is the private zone of the condo. A queen-sized bed is lofted over a built-in desk, bookshelves, laundry, and closet. Plumbing pipe ladders on either side of the bed make for easy ascent and descent from the loft, as well as additional storage for decorative bedding.

Kids' bedroom - mid-sized coastal boy medium tone wood floor kids' bedroom idea in New York with gray walls

Custom reclaimed log bed with bent blackened steel side tables. Photography by Manolo Langis
Located steps away from the beach, the client engaged us to transform a blank industrial loft space to a warm inviting space that pays respect to its industrial heritage. We use anchored large open space with a sixteen foot conversation island that was constructed out of reclaimed logs and plumbing pipes. The island itself is divided up into areas for eating, drinking, and reading. Bringing this theme into the bedroom, the bed was constructed out of 12x12 reclaimed logs anchored by two bent steel plates for side tables.

This bedroom is small and had a tiny existing closet and poor flow, so we had to get creative. We reworked the layout to allow for a walk in closet and replaced old carpet with bamboo flooring. By adding a loft bed, we gained a large custom desk space, complete with tool chest as desk storage. Since my client’s view of the ceiling got a little closer, we added interest with bold color and design. A contemporary dresser and comfortable reading chair round out the space. The existing bathroom had a leaking shower with odd angles. To save money, we kept the angles and added a European shower tower, maximizing luxury and function in a tight space. The wall mounted vanity is visually lighter than a traditional vanity and makes the room feel larger. And we can’t forget the giraffe – a fun and colorful accent for a true animal lover!
