This home’s noteworthy steel shipping container construction material, offers a streamlined aesthetic and industrial vibe, with sustainable attributes and strength. Recycled shipping containers are fireproof, impervious to water and stronger than traditional building materials. Inside, muscular concrete walls, burnished cedar beams and custom oak cabinetry give the living spaces definition, decorative might, and storage and seating options. Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional l-shaped eat-in kitchen remodel in San Diego with a farmhouse sink, shaker cabinets, white cabinets, quartzite countertops, stainless steel appliances, an island and gray countertops

Beautiful French inspired home in the heart of Lincoln Park Chicago. Rising amidst the grand homes of North Howe Street, this stately house has more than 6,600 SF. In total, the home has seven bedrooms, six full bathrooms and three powder rooms. Designed with an extra-wide floor plan (21'-2"), achieved through side-yard relief, and an attached garage achieved through rear-yard relief, it is a truly unique home in a truly stunning environment. The centerpiece of the home is its dramatic, 11-foot-diameter circular stair that ascends four floors from the lower level to the roof decks where panoramic windows (and views) infuse the staircase and lower levels with natural light. Public areas include classically-proportioned living and dining rooms, designed in an open-plan concept with architectural distinction enabling them to function individually. A gourmet, eat-in kitchen opens to the home's great room and rear gardens and is connected via its own staircase to the lower level family room, mud room and attached 2-1/2 car, heated garage. The second floor is a dedicated master floor, accessed by the main stair or the home's elevator. Features include a groin-vaulted ceiling; attached sun-room; private balcony; lavishly appointed master bath; tremendous closet space, including a 120 SF walk-in closet, and; an en-suite office. Over the years we have developed relationships with many clients but none like this one. Our client, Charlotte, had us collaborate with her on many aspects of her loft space. We started out small with custom bedding and drapery in the bedroom. Soon after that, the project grew to include furniture and textiles in the remaining rooms. We also designed her kitchen with Vesta Chicago as well as her two bathrooms. A window seat was fitted with a luxurious down cushion and pillows, including a very special one with a love bird motif. She wanted the romantic feeling of an old hotel in Paris. A blend of materials, new and reclaimed, were combined to create this wonderful environment. Photos by Patty Carroll Photography

Summit Ridge is a custom residence on Paris Mountain that reinterprets classic Southern architecture through a modern lens. Designed to harmonize with its wooded mountain setting, the home combines clean lines, refined materials, and enduring craftsmanship. This Paris Mountain custom home embraces its Greenville landscape, offering a sense of retreat, privacy, and balance between the natural and built environments. The exterior features a refined mix of fieldstone, smooth siding, and vertical cedar accents, layered to achieve both warmth and contrast. A standing-seam metal roof, deep overhangs, and cypress porch ceilings emphasize the home’s strong horizontal lines while improving energy efficiency and protection from the elements. Custom aluminum-clad windows and doors bring in natural light and open the interior to expansive mountain views. Exposed steel brackets and precision detailing reveal the craftsmanship that defines Greenville-based CarsonSpeer Builders’ work, where structure and artistry coexist beautifully.

Initially designed as a bachelor's Sonoma weekend getaway, The Fan House features glass and steel garage-style doors that take advantage of the verdant 40-acre hilltop property. With the addition of a wife and children, the secondary residence's interiors needed to change. Ann Lowengart Interiors created a family-friendly environment while adhering to the homeowner's preference for streamlined silhouettes. In the open living-dining room, a neutral color palette and contemporary furnishings showcase the modern architecture and stunning views. A separate guest house provides a respite for visiting urban dwellers.

After a trip to Paris, my client was inspired to create a space that was reminiscent of the hotel that they stayed in. I utilized striped wallpaper, hydrangea and blue woven fabrics along with and a variety of cotton twills to create a soft and comfortable environment. The Parisian flare was added in the selection of the furniture pieces and lighting.
