This is a shaker style kitchen, sprayed Cloud White on solid maple doors. The solid maple legs of the island house electrical outlets. The 10' x 5' island had to be custom made to account for a 2 1/2" slope in the floor of this reclaimed farmhouse. Tile back splash and finishing touches have since been completed.

Quarried out of Brazil, a stunning cool-toned Ijen Blue Quartzite was chosen for the outdoor kitchen countertops. This alternative to marble is harder and more durable and its light blue background is accentuated by blue and gold veining dispersed throughout. The plan for the outdoor kitchen took into account the size of the area, layout shape, appliance location, storage, etc. to create an effective workspace that allowed plenty of room for multiple chefs in the kitchen. Finally, we added modern conveniences that enhanced the homeowners’ outdoor enjoyment, including fans, heaters, and special lighting.

Our design and planning team also took into account what the view would be from inside the house as well as outside. For example, the eight-foot-high pondless waterfall can also be seen from inside. It is not just a beautiful focal point; it hides the pool equipment that local regulations require be put in the middle of the backyard.

Want some of the best flooring benefits for a healthier home gym. Cork is the way.
Why cork works well as a home gym flooring material. Tiles, concrete and industrial carpet over concrete offer no resilience, and can be uncomfortable and potentially unhealthy. Cork flooring can provide important thermal and respiratory benefits. Created with a honeycomb structure, the millions of cells found in cork are filled with air, which accounts for its ability to absorb impact shocks and sounds. Install cork today and reap the benefits.

Design Builders & Remodeling is a one stop shop operation. From the start, design solutions are strongly rooted in practical applications and experience. Project planning takes into account the realities of the construction process and mindful of your established budget. All the work is centralized in one firm reducing the chances of costly or time consuming surprises. A solid partnership with solid professionals to help you realize your dreams for a new or improved home.
This classic Connecticut home was bought by a growing family. The house was in an ideal location but needed to be expanded. Design Builders & Remodeling almost doubled the square footage of the home. Creating a new sunny and spacious master bedroom, new guestroom, laundry room, garage, kids bathroom, expanded and renovated the kitchen, family room, and playroom. The upgrades and addition is seamlessly and thoughtfully integrated to the original footprint.

This house was built as a testing ground for refining assembly, trying new details, and simplifying mechanical tweaks. It was designed as a stock plan, taking into account the wedge-shaped lot common to new suburbs. A large, south-facing great room brings bright south light into the home, uncommon in a neighborhood where the same design is reused over and over regardless of orientation. The exterior styling references the classic suburban architecture of the 20th century, while keeping the finishes maintenance-free. As a spec house and also a fully certified Passive House, this home demonstrates the perfect balance between cost-effectiveness and cutting edge energy performance.

This narrow old home in downtown Chicago is only 12 feet wide! The home went through many revisions over time to the point where it was in disarray and in dire need of renovation. Every inch of space was taken into account when redesigning the new layout. The central stair was removed and replaced with a custom elliptical staircase with stained wood continuous handrail and painted spindels. The corner of the staircase is punctuated with a classical column and plinth. The existing fireplace was modified with a repurposed antique metal mantel and surround. New period style decorative wall coverings, panel molding, and crown moulding were brought in to polish the new home. The transformation is stunning.

When designing the new plan, it was key to incorporate the open cutouts behind the kitchen to allow for daylight into the back bedroom. This was woven into the design with chic mirrors, which offer enough sunlight as well as a unique design flair emphasizing the clean lines.
In order to account for more comfortable seating options, a curved end of the island countertop was chosen, which easily offers seating for four and enhances a conversational seating environment. The new tall hidden pantry, to the left of the fridge, provides the best of both worlds with lots of storage and a minimal footprint. The addition of a display shelf across the full-height backsplash allows the homeowner to routinely add her own sparkle to the space!

One of our absolute favorite Instagram accounts is @maryellenskye. We love the design aesthetic of all her pictures. Her minimalistic approach with a flare of flowers, old charm and of course Nashville was enough for us to know we had to work on a collection with her.
Mary Ellen's collection is a complete reflection of her minimalistic yet romantic love for home decor. Her home is inspired by a touch of southern charm with lots of flowers and nude tones. We asked her a few questions to find out what inspired her collection, what she loves and we even got a few tips on how to approach the decorating process.

We were contracted by a local couple who owns an accounting practice locally that wanted to build their retirement home in a desired neighborhood close to their offices. They had already bought their lot, and purchased their home plans online. The owners of this beautiful home had many of their selections, colors, and other desires already picked prior to beginning the project. One unique feature that was requested was to incorporate a toe ledge into the master shower so that the lady of the house would have an easier time when shaving her legs. Now that is a true customized item that not many ladies would think about when building the home of her dreams.
