We acquired an old Victorian home in need of complete rehab and set out to be respectful of the historical nature and aesthetic of the home while nudging it forward in a modern, somewhat eclectic, way. Since nearly all of the original details except the floors and a beautiful stair were removed by previous owners, we felt free to use materials and finishes that spoke to the homes history but are decidedly current. The result, a light-filled and colorful home with interesting details in every room, speaks to our aesthetic and design direction.

Amédée is a sofa and armchair combination, designed around a lumbar support which is quilted and stitched just like the bucket seats of the finest Italian automobiles. The armchair is available with swiveling base, and a footstool is offered for when it's time to relax.
Chic, urban and thus compact, this family of seating acquires undeniable luxury object status when upholstered in the new full grain, pure aniline Orga leather, with its slightly smooth, glossy finish.

This home was built in the 70's and as you can imagine has acquired a few "ailments" over the past 40 years, one of the more serious being the deterioration of the front entrance. The brick started to loosen over the years and eventually started to break apart completely, it got to the point that the family could not use the front entrance at all due to the safety hazard it represented. After interviewing with several contractors the home owners contacted David Sharp with DSLD Land Management and he was able to ease the tension and offer a solution that not only resulted in a beautifully restored front entrance but that also fit comfortably into their budget. The project took less than a week to complete and as you can imagine the home owners are thrilled with the final product!

Our client a gourmet cook desired a new kitchen in their home that they have lived in for over 30 years. She knew that she wanted minimalist cabinetry, neutral color palettes, and wood accents, her contemporary kitchens has a subtle elegance that will never go out of style. We blended aspects of modern design with other details for a look that's current and sleek, but not sterile. A pop of color show with her accessories we acquired for their home—whether it’s on the furniture, in a bowl of fresh fruit, or in a vase of flowers. These details just add to this clean and modern chef’s kitchen. Hidden treasures are tiered cutlery systems and a pull up mixer so no one has to lift that heavy kitchen aid mix. The overall style ensures that this contemporary kitchen designs still feel warm and welcoming, as do big windows that let in the sun, an architectural light fixture.

A modern transformation was in store for this abused split-level Rockville, MD home. A previous "renovation" created some non-functional spaces and odd transitions. At the center of the design was an antique chandelier that the homeowners acquired from an estate sale early in their marriage, so that challenge was integrating old and new into the shared space.
So many walls came down and one wall went up. This family now has not only an open and functional space, but it is dripping with luxury details like the custom cabinets in a glorious emerald green color from Benjamin Moore called "Gondola Ride", gold tone hardware and wall sconces, and a stunning Borghini Gold quartz counter from Emerstone that carries up to the backsplash.
Outlets hidden under the cabinets provide plenty of power for small appliances. The cabinetry is loaded with smart features like a trash and recycling center, deep pot storage, gigantic storage pantries flanking the refrigerator and a generous island that provides seating for 4 and hidden storage. Valence boxes create a home for the 3 gold scones that tie the kitchen and the dining buffer together. Dimmable led surface lights throughout provide ample illumination without detracting from the statement lighting in the room. The newly refinished hardwood floors complete the look.

Reclaimed Walnut Backsplash. I acquired this material from my hardwood lumber supplier. He has dozens of pallets of this reclaimed walnut, which is claimed to be rejected Smith and Wesson gun stock material from eons ago.

Upon acquiring the property, the homeowner faced a compact backyard dominated by a neglected lawn that offered little usability. The ambition was not only to enhance the outdoor space's utility but to inject it with vibrant aesthetics and dynamism through the hardscape. To bring this vision to life, we embraced a palette of colorful materials, choosing multicolored concrete, pavers, and tiles that introduce a playful yet sophisticated charm. Further creativity was applied in the design through the use of curvy lines that flow organically throughout the space, leading the eye and inviting movement. Beach rocks were thoughtfully embedded into decorative bands, adding a tactile and visual texture that complements the curvilinear approach. This strategic combination of color, texture, and form transformed the backyard into a visually stimulating and highly functional outdoor living area.

Kitchen updated and renovated to create new, influential space. The new kitchen includes built-in, stainless steel appliances that compliment the dark wood of the cabinets located both above and below the sink. Deciding to stick with a traditional looking kitchen, this family acquired the inviting look that was aimed for.

The builders of the historic Wilcox Mansion skimped on just one hallmark of luxury in our humble opinion — the wine cave. It was our pleasure to correct this small oversight by adding an underground wine cellar to the property’s basement when it was acquired by new owners last year.
When working with a historic property like this one, it’s important to respect the space and not modify any walls or materials of historic significance. Thankfully, the brick and stone basement already provided the perfect location for wine storage without the need for additional refrigeration. We added a custom bar top made from one of the property’s original doors (set under glass to protect it), lower shelves custom made from reclaimed barn wood, top wine racks by STACT, and some very dramatic lighting, for a truly one-of-a-kind wine storage system for this one-of-a-kind architectural masterpiece.

The Home
A family heirloom full of warm memories passed down for generations to come greets you after opening the beautiful knotty alder front
door. The rear staircase and separate back entrance allows for multi-generations to share this home.
The Eagles Nest is a place for all to land. The five bedroom, four bath mountain modern plan offers several areas for relaxing and
entertaining. Upon entering, you are welcomed by the warmth of the beams, hickory floors and inviting fireplace. The overall environment gently whispers, “come in, sit down and relax”. The back staircase off the kitchen leads you to a private oasis. The lower level is designed to serve two purposes. It can be a separate living quarter because of its private entrance, or an extension of the house for entertaining.
The open floor plan maximizes square footage for all to enjoy and partake, or for one to find their own quiet space.

The Interior Design
Inspired by nature’s palette and a touch of modern, the Eagles Nest is a calm haven of earth tones and casual elegance. The interior is an inviting blend of subtle neutrals and pops of color, combined with metals, textures, and fine finishes, creating a transitional rustic design. Entertain guests in the large downstairs rec room with a glass of wine at the built-in bar, or take on an opponent with a game of foosball.
The homeowners joined forces with Caprice King at Upstage Furniture Consignments to paint the pallet of the home. Caprice King staged the home with additional furnishings and accessories, lending the home a designer’s touch while utilizing her spatial expertise and attention to detail.
