They had a space with an odd shaped island and they could not visualize how to best redesign this to get a larger island without all the angles. They also had no pantry storage area in the kitchen which they really wanted. We used our Kitchen Solvers app to create a video walkthrough to showcase the design we came up with, which they loved. The kitchen had a window that looked out into another room that had been converted into a bar and entertainment space. We took out the window and enlarged the opening, creating a pass-through and serving area to the adjoining room. On one side of the kitchen, we created a long bar area with dual wine coolers that serves as the bar and another serving area. Glass upper cabinets with thick glass shelves were used to display their collection of glass vases and bowls. Inside the cabinet, lighting was added to highlight the collection and shine through the glass shelves. A large pantry cabinet was built between the refrigerator and ovens with an adjustable height rollout system in the lower section. The new cabinets are from our Kitchen Solvers Legacy Collection in a classic white. The hood was custom designed to be the focal point of the kitchen and the honey maple wood matches what we did with the island cabinets. For the counters, we did the island with a waterfall edge in a Sandgate quartz, while the perimeter counters were done in a Lakedale quartz. We also did a full height backsplash in the same Lakedale quartz. The entire kitchen has no visible light switches or electrical outlets. Can lights in the ceiling was added over the new island. Undercabinet lighting is in two zones, the bar area and the rest of the kitchen. Down facing “hockey puck” lighting was built over the passthrough and hidden in the custom trim work. The center drawer in the island has hidden outlets behind the drawer face. Just look at this amazing kitchen transformation!

It's not often that you can take advantage of a lake view out in the suburbs of Chicago. This previously closed off kitchen now features an updated design with a great sightlines of the marvelous backyard landscape. The PB Kitchens Design team eliminated the formal eating area and instead, created an island with four spaces for seating, a second sink, and an abundance of storage. The outdoors is brought in via the large new windows and the earthy grey cabinet colors. Project specs: Cabinets by Signature Custom Cabinetry. The island features a Peruvian walnut island top from Grothouse Lumber. Dark granite countertop on the perimeter cabinetry. Quarter sawn white oak is used on the perimeter and island cabinets. This kitchen, originally built on a budget in 1952, is both cozy and functional. I thought the maple countertops would be ruined in no time, but they've withheld superbly even though they're used daily. The cabinet doors slide and there were no drawers in the kitchen. I added the steel medical cabinet with drawers to hold small utensils and to support the countertop. The colorful glass collection in the window changes with the light. Despite it's smallish size, the layout, and light make it a kitchen that cooks! While waiting for water to boil, I can look up into those skylights and see huge tree branches and sky overhead. This beautifully crafted Scandinavian kitchen remodel blends the warmth of white oak shaker cabinets with the sleek elegance of a quartzite island, creating a space that feels fresh yet timeless. Brass hardware, a farmhouse sink, and a custom range hood add character, while panel-ready appliances and a full-height backsplash keep the look seamless. A central island with seating invites casual dining and conversation, making this kitchen as functional as it is welcoming—perfect for cooking, gathering, and everyday living.

The original ensuite bathroom in this condominium required renovations to replace problematic Kitec plumbing. The layout in the space remained the same, but improvements were made to address certain design challenges with lighting, automation, and space. The aim was to create a modern bathroom design with textured wood features, and the feel of metallic black accents. A number of prominent changes were made to improve the use of space. The original entry, a left-handed door swinging into the bathroom, was replaced. It interfered with the vanity clear floor space. It also made the use of the bathroom difficult when two users were present. It was changed to a soft closing pocket door. To avoid losing space it was installed by creating a wall cavity on the outside of the bathroom. This door also included frosted glass panels to allow natural light into the space. Double sliding glass shower doors were also installed to address access issues to the shower valve. Storage improvements included the installation of dual inset medicine cabinets, and pull out drawers within the wall hung vanity. The depth of the medicine cabinets were extended outwards, and this nice detail was finished with a textured wood finish. The addition of the wall hung vanity also created the feeling of more space beneath the units and allowed for under cabinet lighting. Lighting and automation improvements included the addition of HUE LED lighting. This was done by installing two shower pot lights, a 6” main potlight, and under cabinet lighting. These are all controlled by the Philips Hue App that programs routines, scenes, and other settings. Some of the other highlights of this modern bathroom include dark grout, which contrasts nicely with the elongated white tile, a thermostatic shower system, herringbone textured porcelain floor tile, and a Schluter Kerdi waterproofing shower system. This bathroom is made most unique though with the choice of wallpaper, which can be described as modern luxury, a graphic take on agate stone patterns with metallic embellishments.
