We recently helped a family improve the comfort of their upstairs bedrooms. The Plymouth Township family could feel the temperature change as they walked up the stairs to the 2nd floor. It was so hot in the summer that they were having trouble sleeping at night. Our skilled install team removed the damaged attic insulation, air sealed the attic floor and added blown cellulose insulation to ENERGY STAR standards. We also sealed all of the accessible joints and seams in the duct work to prevent the cool air from leaking out of the ducts before it could reach bedrooms upstairs. The challenge was to preserve the heritage of a small summer cabin that was built by the current owners' grandparents while providing a four season cabin for the extended family to enjoy. The original living room was kept intact while lifting it for a foundation and building insulated walls around it. The fireplace was caringly dismantled and reassembled using the same stones for the surrround. The client came to us to assist with transforming their small family cabin into a year-round residence that would continue the family legacy. The home was originally built by our client’s grandfather so keeping much of the existing interior woodwork and stone masonry fireplace was a must. They did not want to lose the rustic look and the warmth of the pine paneling. The view of Lake Michigan was also to be maintained. It was important to keep the home nestled within its surroundings. There was a need to update the kitchen, add a laundry & mud room, install insulation, add a heating & cooling system, provide additional bedrooms and more bathrooms. The addition to the home needed to look intentional and provide plenty of room for the entire family to be together. Low maintenance exterior finish materials were used for the siding and trims as well as natural field stones at the base to match the original cabin’s charm.

This 24'x24' detached garage has a 2=9'x7' raised panel insulated garage door and a 36" Thermatru side entry door. Azek around the garage doors for durability and longevity. The cupola on top adds interest.

This back living room makeover was for some of our favorite clients we've worked with before. They have excellent eclectic taste and are so fun to work with! They wanted to makeover their den that was right off the kitchen. They wanted to replace the back patio double door and adjacent windows with a wall of windows. This room was really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter, so proper insulation was a must! The ceiling had reoccurring cracks, that needed repair. We installed energy efficient windows and added insulation in the walls. We fixed the ceiling cracks and repaired it so it wouldn't happen again in the future. A sliding door was added to the drive way side, to mirror the other sliding door, where a window was before. Three large 7' x 6' windows were added along the back of the room, so the homeowners could enjoy their backyard from the comfort of inside their home. The wood beams added a nice contrast to the Benjamin Moore Mt. Rainier Gray paint. The homeowners picked out a really cool Thomas O'Brien 'Ziyi' lighting fixture that hangs above their kitchen table for an eclectic finish to this beautiful space.

This project was a small 220 sqft room addition that was intended as a playroom. The client wanted the exterior to blend with the rest of the house, and included tying the HVAC system in so we added insulation and attic ventilation to prevent from taxing the existing system.

This colonial in Acton, was opened up and expanded to accommodate a growing family. A one car garage and poorly insulated den was reconfigured into a home office and family room with skylights and cathedral ceiling. The kitchen, remodeled with cherry cabinets and black granite counters, connects the family room to the dining room. A cedar screen porch with skylights was added near the kitchen. A new angled mudroom, accessed by a farmer’s porch connects a new two car garage with storage above. A deck connects the mudroom and the screen porch to the back yard. A tiled entry addition and blue stone steps, dress up the front and adds space in front of the existing stairs.

The Porch House sits perched overlooking a stretch of the Yellowstone River valley. With an expansive view of the majestic Beartooth Mountain Range and its close proximity to renowned fishing on Montana’s Stillwater River you have the beginnings of a great Montana retreat. This structural insulated panel (SIP) home effortlessly fuses its sustainable features with carefully executed design choices into a modest 1,200 square feet. The SIPs provide a robust, insulated envelope while maintaining optimal interior comfort with minimal effort during all seasons. A twenty foot vaulted ceiling and open loft plan aided by proper window and ceiling fan placement provide efficient cross and stack ventilation. A custom square spiral stair, hiding a wine cellar access at its base, opens onto a loft overlooking the vaulted living room through a glass railing with an apparent Nordic flare. The “porch” on the Porch House wraps 75% of the house affording unobstructed views in all directions. It is clad in rusted cold-rolled steel bands of varying widths with patterned steel “scales” at each gable end. The steel roof connects to a 3,600 gallon rainwater collection system in the crawlspace for site irrigation and added fire protection given the remote nature of the site. Though it is quite literally at the end of the road, the Porch House is the beginning of many new adventures for its owners.

We added a fully enclosed window well at the basement. The water feature holds koi fish and vegetation. Sliding glass pocket door allows for additional insulation. Tile is wood grain porcelain. The shower is the open space in the bathroom. Floor acts as the drain.
