Location: Denver, CO, USA THE CHALLENGE: Elevate a modern residence that struggled with temperature both aesthetically and physically – the home was cold to the touch, and cold to the eye. THE SOLUTION: Natural wood finishes were added through flooring and window and door details that give the architecture a warmer aesthetic. Inspiration for a farmhouse living room remodel in Los Angeles with beige walls, a ribbon fireplace and a metal fireplace

The original design of this late Mid-century Modern house featured a horrifically ugly entry which the owners needed our help to fix. In addition, they wanted to add a master suite, create a home theatre, and remodel the family room. Although they originally considered adding a second floor, our final design resulted in an extension of the house which accentuated its existing linear quality. Our solution to the entry problem included cutting back part of the vaulted roof to allow more light in and adding a cantilevered canopy instead. A new entry bridge crosses a koi pond, and new clerestory windows, stone planters and cedar trim complete the makeover of the previously bland plywood-clad box. The new master suite features 12 foot ceilings, clerestory windows, 8 foot high French doors and a fireplace. The exterior of the addition employs the same pallet of materials as the new façade but with a carefully composed composition of form and proportion. Moving from the foyer into the family room, you’ll discover the dramatic one-of-a-kind custom millwork. The stunning fireplace in the family room echoes the wood tones from the transitional staircase. The built-in was designed by the HD interior design team with remarkable detailing and added storage. The asymmetrical look adds a contemporary interest and dimension to the space, proving that even new construction homes can have character, as long as the interior design is carefully approached.

Our owners were looking to upgrade their master bedroom into a hotel-like oasis away from the world with a rustic "ski lodge" feel. The bathroom was gutted, we added some square footage from a closet next door and created a vaulted, spa-like bathroom space with a feature soaking tub. We connected the bedroom to the sitting space beyond to make sure both rooms were able to be used and work together. Added some beams to dress up the ceilings along with a new more modern soffit ceiling complete with an industrial style ceiling fan. The master bed will be positioned at the actual reclaimed barn-wood wall...The gas fireplace is see-through to the sitting area and ties the large space together with a warm accent. This wall is coated in a beautiful venetian plaster. Also included 2 walk-in closet spaces (being fitted with closet systems) and an exercise room. Completed in 2021, “Ramble Retreat” is one of our many homes in the Asheville community of The Ramble and was designed by PLATT Architects. This stone-clad stunner makes an immediate impression with its soaring timber framework and hand-beveled, scraped flooring. The beautiful living room features vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams and is anchored by a large stone ribbon-style fireplace, creating a dramatic yet inviting focal point. Throughout the home, poplar and oak paneling replace traditional drywall, adding warmth and craftsmanship. An outdoor kitchen sits within the screened porch, surrounded by handsome stonework on the flooring, pillars, and walls. Nearly invisible seamless screens create a comfortable connection to nature, making this cottage a true retreat just minutes from Asheville’s urban life.

Inspiration for a transitional living room remodel in New York

“We could never have envisioned what could be” – Steiner Ranch Homeowner and Client It is an especially fulfilling Project for an Interior Designer when the outcome exceeds Client expectations, and imagination. This remodeling project required instilling modern sensibilities, openness, styles and textures into a dated house that was past its prime. Strategically, the goal was to tear down where it made sense without doing a complete teardown. Starting with the soul of the home, the kitchen, we expanded out room by room to create a cohesiveness and flow that invites, supports and provides the warmth and relaxation that only a home can. In the Kitchen, we started by removing the wooden beams and adding bright recessed lighting. We removed the old limestone accent wall and moved the sink and cooktop from the island on to the countertop – the key goal was to create room for the family to gather around the kitchen. We replaced all appliances with modern Energy Star ones, along with adding a wine rack. The first order of business for the Living Room was to brighten it up by adding more lighting and replacing an unused section with a glass door to the backyard. Multi-section windows were replaced with large no-split glass overlooking the backyard. Once more, the limestone accent was removed to create a clean, modern look. Replacing the dated wooden staircase with the clean lines of a metal, wire and wooded staircase added interest and freshness. An odd bend in the staircase was removed to clean things up. The Master Bedroom went from what looked like a motel room with green carpet and cheap blinds to an oasis of luxury and charm. A section of the wraparound doors were closed off to increase privacy, accentuate the best view from the bedroom and to add usable space. Artwork, rug, contemporary bed and other accent pieces brought together the seamless look across the home. The Master Bathroom remodel started by replacing the standard windows with a single glass pane that enhanced the view of the outdoors. The dated shower was replaced by a walk-in shower and soaking tub to create the ultimate at-home spa experience. Lighted LED mirrors frame His & Hers sinks and bathe them in a soft light. The flooring was upgraded throughout the house to reflect the contemporary color scheme. Each of the smaller bedrooms were similarly upgraded to match the clean and modern décor of the rest of the house. After such a transformation inside, it was only appropriate that the exterior needed an upgrade as well. All of the legacy limestone accents were replaced by stucco and the color scheme extended from the interior of the house to the gorgeous wrap around balconies, trim, garage doors etc. to complete the inside outside transformation.

For the door, I made a BOO sign. I bought the B O O at a local craft store, sprayed the letters black and added sparkles. I attached the letters with black and white polka dot ribbon and added an orange burlap bow. In the urn, I added a pumpkin I sprayed black, and added orange round stickers to...on top of that pumpkin, I took an off white pumpkin, glued black and white ribbon and attached it with hot glue....I added moss between the pumpkins and in the urn. I also added a colorful welcome rug, more mums and a pumpkin.
