A Custom Patio Cover in Katy TX. This project was designed and built to include an outdoor kitchen, outdoor fireplace, and large patio cover addition. The patio cover structure was built to look original to the home. The patio cover was built using all matching materials and the customer decided to upgrade to a stack stone on the outdoor kitchen and outdoor fireplace as well as adding a stained tongue and groove ceiling. The hearth and mantle feature a honed sandstone with chiseled edge. The outdoor kitchen boasts a 42inch gas grill, outdoor refrigerator, sink, storage, and a wrap-around bar-top with a rounded table top at the end of the bar for additional seating. Outdoor TV's were installed on the outdoor fireplace as well as in the outdoor kitchen area. This custom built patio cover addition with outdoor fireplace and outdoor kitchen is truly a first class outdoor living project that is sure to bring many years of entertaining and leisure opportunities.

Over the course of 20 years, the owners of Imparfait and KitchenLab, Rebekah and Nick, have renovated twice, updated, saved and remodeled the barn, connected the barn to the house via a breezeway and screened in porch and put on an addition onto their beloved Michigan farmhouse. You could say they had vision, because the place was a complete mess when they bought it, complete aluminum siding, shag carpet, faux wood paneling, and sheet vinyl flooring - it was definitely a fixer-upper. At first they were weekend warriors, going back and forth between Chicago and Michigan for many years, even after their daughter, Hannah, was born in 2012 they still split their time between Wicker Park and Michigan, but when Covid hit they de-camped permanently and never looked back. Surrounded by grape vines on 4 sides and 10 miles from Lake Michigan, this little slice of heaven has been their sanctuary and home to 20 years of memories, family gatherings, holidays and friends visiting from near and far. Every tree, bush and flower you see they put in the ground…besides the mature Maples in back, the Red Bud in front and the ones they build the screened in porch around (dubious decision). The first renovation included opening up the kitchen to the dining room, adding French doors to the back yard, new siding, roof, windows, refinishing the floors and remodeling the bathrooms - both of which were on the 1st floor. The most recent remodel included an 8ft, 2 story addition giving them a master suite on the 2nd floor and a mirror image one below for their parents, turning one 1st floor bathroom into a walk-in pantry (life saving), converting the other 1st floor bath to a powder room with laundry (equally life-saving), and adding 2 full baths upstairs and a full bath downstairs. Their design studio is 15 minutes away in Lakeside Michigan which was completed just before the house remodel.

Exposed brick walls, dark joinery and contrasting textures and soft furnishings allows this space to have a lovely homely feel while still being a contemporary family home. A wood burning fire in the sitting area creates a toasty corner, even in an open plan room. A multi use space for entertaining and family life this project is still a hit, and a favourite of ours and the public. The space can be opened up to bring the outside, in. By opening up the huge sliding glazed doors onto the patio you create an even larger space where life can spill out into the garden, and equally lets nature into the home with a breath of fresh air.
The pendant lights above the table from John Lewis – William Bottle Glass Pendants from the Croft collection £130 each. These are such simple lights with a hint of detail and a slightly industrial feel ties in beautifully with the metal star table lamp on the bespoke side table.

The dining room features many classic Danish-designed modern pieces. An inlaid segment of herringbone flooring centred around the table subtly helps to ground the dining room and suits the more traditional detailing in the front half of the existing home.
