How do you expand an L shaped Eichler with the challenge of extending a long dark entry? Klopf Architecture's solution, to design a light filled atrium in the hallway to open up the bedroom expansion with green plants, sky lights and a glass wall. Not to mention the thoughtfulness of a blind door with wood siding similar to the rest of the home.

Goals
The clients main goal was more space. They desired a new kitchen that was large enough to fit their growing family and to update other rooms in their home to fit their contemporary style.
Our Design Solution
In order to enlarge the kitchen, we had to build a new addition. The original kitchen was just too small and had no where to expand to within the house. With moving the entire kitchen into the addition, there was now room to create a mudroom and a new bathroom. Above the new kitchen, we gave the client a new master suite. We used white cabinets, a custom wood counter, and gray back splash tile, to give the kitchen the contemporary feel the clients were seeking.

Most porch additions look like an "after-thought" and detract from the better thought-out design of a home. The design of the porch followed by the gracious materials and proportions of this Georgian-style home. The brick is left exposed and we brought the outside in with wood ceilings. The porch has craftsman-style finished and high quality carpet perfect for outside weathering conditions.
The space includes a dining area and seating area to comfortably entertain in a comfortable environment with crisp cool breezes from multiple ceiling fans.
Love porch life at it's best!

This Portland 1929 Tudor mix home was in need of a few luxury additions. Designed by architect Stuart Emmons of Emmons Architects and built by Hammer & Hand, additions to the home included a green roof, two-person shower, soaking tub, and a two-story addition with a new living room and art studio. Photo by Mitchell Snyder.

This is a two-story addition: a master suite addition on the second floor, which includes a master bedroom, bath, and new walk-in closet); on the first floor is a new three-season porch. The three-season porch has removable screens that can be replaced with glass in cooler months. It has electricity and a ceiling fan. Our clients very much appreciate Tibma Design/Build's suggestions.

This room addition encompasses many uses for these homeowners. From great room, to sunroom, to parlor, and gathering/entertaining space; it’s everything they were missing, and everything they desired. This multi-functional room leads out to an expansive outdoor living space complete with a full working kitchen, fireplace, and large covered dining space. The vaulted ceiling in this room gives a dramatic feel, while the stained pine keeps the room cozy and inviting. The large windows bring the outside in with natural light and expansive views of the manicured landscaping.

The new master bath has a style in keeping with the existing home. Radiant floor heat and rich tiles welcome visitors into the bathroom. A custom tile shower with clear glass enclosure creates an open feel while dark cabinetry balances against a white marble countertop. Additional features include; a new window, recessed medicine cabinets, adjustable vanity mirrors and pendant lights.

The home is able to achieve passive house standards and take full advantage of the views with the use of Glo’s A7 triple pane windows and doors. The PHIUS (Passive House Institute US) certified series boasts triple pane glazing, a larger thermal break, high-performance spacers, and multiple air-seals. The large picture windows frame the landscape while maintaining comfortable interior temperatures year-round. The strategically placed operable windows throughout the residence offer cross-ventilation and a visual connection to the sweeping views of Utah. The modern hardware and color selection of the windows are not only aesthetically exceptional, but remain true to the mid-century modern design.
