Elliot Street is one of our favourite floating stairs to date! This modern art deco staircase was part of a home renovation where the owners were adding a new addition to their Auckland home. It was designed with a steel zig zag balustrade and a wooden walnut handrail over the top of it which was cut and hand shaped on site. This style of metal balustrade is a solidly fabricated steel that is quite a heavy aesthetic, which we at Stairworks have noticed has been the preferred choice over glass this year. The steel single stringer underneath is the structural signature feature of this style of floating stairs. That in addition to the open risers and L shape is not only space saving but also gives a beautifully airy illusion that fits into that modern design. The wooden treads are made of walnut which we really loved working with as it is a very high end timber choice. The owners were able to reduce the cost by choosing to laminate the walnut treads to have the same look and colour. This was done by using pieces of small timber rather than one big chunk. The treads also have anti slip strips of aluminium running along and protruding 1mm off the end of the tread as an added safety feature to stop anyone from slipping down the stairs with socks on. We then hid the fixings of the balustrade with the help of a walnut end cap to cover all the fixings. This floating staircase was quite labour intensive in the installation because we at Stairworks take pride in our finishings meaning everything needs to be done correctly down to the last detail. In the end, both we and the homeowners were very happy with the end result!

As New England's premier custom glass design firm, we were proud to bring this stunning orangery addition to life for a Carlisle, Massachusetts family we’ve worked with on two other occasions. Orangeries, historically designed for cultivating citrus trees, have evolved into luxurious glass-enclosed spaces offering year-round natural light and connection to the outdoors. This custom orangery demonstrates Sunspace Design's mastery of blending the classic style with modern amenities. Over two years of meticulous planning culminated in the results you see here. Drawn to our local reputation and in-house design and fabrication capabilities, the clients collaborated closely with us to realize their vision. Spanning an impressive 14' x 22'6", the orangery brings an air of grandeur to the rear of the colonial-style home while complementing the existing architecture. The centerpiece is the custom hip-style glass roof, outfitted with insulated safety glass, framed in rich sapele mahogany, and adorned with copper glazing, flashing, and capping. Blue reflective glass set in the roof creates a captivating interplay of light throughout the day and contributes to the space’s lasting elegance. The roof line is set in from the walls to create a perimeter soffit on the interior, typical of orangeries. Custom wet bar cabinetry, crown moldings, and tilework complete the orangery, reflecting the family's discerning taste and creating an excellent spot for entertaining. Our role as general contractor, our design expertise, and our fabrication abilities ensured this project's seamless execution. From engineered CAD drawings to the intricate roof assembly, the Sunspace commitment to quality is evident in the finished result. This space is much more than an addition; it's become the heart of the family’s home, where joyous holiday gatherings are hosted, and a touch of luxury is brought to everyday living.

The Glen Atkinson project was an exterior steel staircase also known as an outdoor stringer staircase. To add to the stair design, we chose to build pieces that support the treads a little more artistic so the gussets for the metal treads were shaped with a laser cutter. Additionally, the homeowners chose folded chequer point treads to prevent slipping and injury, a great added safety feature not a New Zealand building requirement. The entire staircase had to be fully welded because it is outdoors, and in addition it was zinc sprayed and top coated for corrosion protection. This is similar to galenising the stairs but it is not as rough of a process and the owners won’t have to respray the staircase. The stairs were designed for the top piece of the balustrade to be removable so that the homeowners could get larger items in and out of the top floor of their Auckland home. To achieve this, we made a bolt-able connection to the steel balustrade so they can unbolt that section of the balustrade. The handrail was also made a bit wider because the owners wanted a bigger grip.

The rubber mulch provides a cushioned surface that is ideal for playgrounds, offering safety and protection against falls. Additionally, rubber mulch is an environmentally-friendly option, as it is made from recycled materials and does not require frequent replacement like traditional wood mulch.

Tucked away in one of the area’s most beautiful and historic neighborhoods this once ultra-traditional-style home is now the ideal blend of past and present. Knowing that we were not only bringing their space current but also creating a tailored in-law suite for their mother’s upcoming stay — we got right to work on our mission of removing all obstacles to this family’s vision. This comprehensive project includes a larger, more functional kitchen plus Great Room addition; in-law suite with bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette and living space; family room; and screened in porch / deck combination ideal for grilling, entertaining and enjoying the outdoors. The expansive and open-layout-kitchen features Dura Supreme Shaker Cabinetry painted white and paired with glistening quartz counters. The space continues on and seamlessly opens up into the breezy Great Room and dining area. The newly equipped Mini-Split HVAC System provides independent temperature control and the elegant Universal Design In-Law Bathroom ensures both safety and usability. Hardwood flooring was installed and the existing flooring throughout was refinished to match — giving way to the smooth and continuous feel throughout the entire main level. Architect Lauren Cawse approached the layout by redefining the existing house and garage as the east and west sides of an outdoor room, with the new cottage forming its southern boundary. This arrangement created a clear courtyard near the main residence while directing the 800-square-foot guest house toward the open meadow and the distant Catskill Mountains. “The unique character of the site and its history inspired the architectural direction,” says Cawse. “The intent was to create a secondary structure in the compound in clear contrast to the modern farmhouse style of the house and garage.” A Barn-Inspired Exterior Adds Visual Flair The exterior envelope evokes a traditional barn with a simple gable shape, weathered wood siding, cedar shingles, and a foundation veneer made of local fieldstone. A large sliding barn door adds a complementary feature to the courtyard-facing side, creating a dynamic opening that maintains uninterrupted views through the cottage to the meadow beyond. The space continues on and seamlessly opens up into the breezy Great Room and dining area. The newly equipped Mini-Split HVAC System provides independent temperature control and the elegant Universal Design In-Law Bathroom ensures both safety and usability. Hardwood flooring was installed and the existing flooring throughout was refinished to match — giving way to the smooth and continuous feel throughout the entire main level. The Glen Atkinson project was an exterior steel staircase also known as an outdoor stringer staircase. To add to the stair design, we chose to build pieces that support the treads a little more artistic so the gussets for the metal treads were shaped with a laser cutter. Additionally, the homeowners chose folded chequer point treads to prevent slipping and injury, a great added safety feature not a New Zealand building requirement. The entire staircase had to be fully welded because it is outdoors, and in addition it was zinc sprayed and top coated for corrosion protection. This is similar to galenising the stairs but it is not as rough of a process and the owners won’t have to respray the staircase. The stairs were designed for the top piece of the balustrade to be removable so that the homeowners could get larger items in and out of the top floor of their Auckland home. To achieve this, we made a bolt-able connection to the steel balustrade so they can unbolt that section of the balustrade. The handrail was also made a bit wider because the owners wanted a bigger grip.

As New England's premier custom glass design firm, we were proud to bring this stunning orangery addition to life for a Carlisle, Massachusetts family we’ve worked with on two other occasions. Orangeries, historically designed for cultivating citrus trees, have evolved into luxurious glass-enclosed spaces offering year-round natural light and connection to the outdoors. This custom orangery demonstrates Sunspace Design's mastery of blending the classic style with modern amenities. Over two years of meticulous planning culminated in the results you see here. Drawn to our local reputation and in-house design and fabrication capabilities, the clients collaborated closely with us to realize their vision. Spanning an impressive 14' x 22'6", the orangery brings an air of grandeur to the rear of the colonial-style home while complementing the existing architecture. The centerpiece is the custom hip-style glass roof, outfitted with insulated safety glass, framed in rich sapele mahogany, and adorned with copper glazing, flashing, and capping. Blue reflective glass set in the roof creates a captivating interplay of light throughout the day and contributes to the space’s lasting elegance. The roof line is set in from the walls to create a perimeter soffit on the interior, typical of orangeries. Custom wet bar cabinetry, crown moldings, and tilework complete the orangery, reflecting the family's discerning taste and creating an excellent spot for entertaining. Our role as general contractor, our design expertise, and our fabrication abilities ensured this project's seamless execution. From engineered CAD drawings to the intricate roof assembly, the Sunspace commitment to quality is evident in the finished result. In Wynnewood, PA, we completed a comprehensive home renovation that transformed the entire property. Our new project. To implement it, we were invited by the company in San Francisco. We had a very difficult task to do. The building in which we had to install sound-absorbing panels has a historical and architectural value, and the main thing was not to harm anything. And at the moment the building is used by the federal government, so that the work had to be carried out quickly and quietly, not to disturb the employees working in the building. We have carefully selected materials, so that the shade of color on the wall would be completely coincided with shade of the fabric set. In the choice, we stopped at a specially made for this purpose CLIPSO sound-absorbing fabric. This material is better than any other for this kind of work: 1) Clipso Sound Proof is specially designed for sound absorption. 2) This material is made of synthetic fabric impregnated with polyurethane, it is ready to cope with significant operational loads in public buildings. 3) The texture of the material looks like a canvas, which creates an additional atmosphere of comfort and harmony with every interior of the premises where we have installed it. In the base, behind the CLIPSO fabric, we have installed an additional layer of sound-absorbing material. This combination has increased the sound absorption to a factor of 1.0 (100%). All premises in which the work was carried out was provided to us for 3 days. During this time, we had to remove all lights, grille ventilation systems, as well as safety sensors and fire extinguishing systems. Then install the mounting profile in the places told by the architects,mount a layer of sound-absorbing material and sound-absorbing fabric CLIPSO. Then, it was necessary to put back all dismantled equipment. With this task we coped.
