Paradise Found ConstructionKeith and Amy loved their home in quiet Wake Forest neighborhood on a large corner lot on a cul-de-sac. Over time, Amy had developed allergic reactions to unknown allergens in their home. As her condition worsened, it became impossible for her to spend much time in the home, and they were forced to move out and find temporary housing accommodations.
After months of talking with other home improvement providers and indoor air “experts” and trying other solutions to no avail including having their HVAC ducting cleaned, they turned to Paradise Found Construction and our expertise and experience in transforming indoor environments in homes into healthy and clean living spaces. Because many of the improvements we undertook to create a cleaner environment also provided energy savings, we had our work certified under the 2012 National Green Building Standards (NGBS) and were award a Bronze level certification for the home.
We conducted a thorough investigation and testing regimen that included bringing in our team industry leading air quality and HVAC experts, we developed a comprehensive plan of action that would solve their “sick home syndrome”.
We removed all of the carpeting and pad from the home and thoroughly cleaned all surfaces and filtered the air with advanced HEPA filtration units. There were a few areas of mold in the crawl space which we mitigated as well. We thoroughly air sealed the home, paying particular attention to the ground level and attic floor system. Since the HVAC systems and ducting had become re-contaminated, we cleaned both units and all associated duct work.
To eliminate unhealthy air being drawn into the home from the crawl space, we completely sealed and conditioned the crawl. In order to provide a controlled entry point for clean fresh air into the home we installed an energy efficient stand-alone Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV).
We installed wood flooring in all of the living areas that did not have wood flooring, and finished all of the flooring using a NO-VOC water-based floor finish. All of the painted surfaces of the home were sealed and painted with NO-VOC latex paint.
To further improve the energy performance of the home in addition to thoroughly air-sealing and sealing and conditioning the crawl space, we installed 100% LED lighting in the home. We improved the water efficiency of the home by installing low-flow EPA WaterSense rated toilets and shower heads, converted all of the bathroom and kitchen faucets to be more water efficient.
Upon completion, Amy and her family was able to move back into their cozy and clean “new home”, and are once again able to enjoy and be comfortable in their home.
Alair Homes NanaimoThis modern-style executive home takes full advantage of the views and rocky terrain. The homeowners are retirees whose goal was to build a home that they could age in place in. Taking their needs into consideration, we created a large open concept design that takes advantage of the natural light and scenery while enabling the owners full accessibility throughout. All the primary rooms are located on the main floor with guest and additional spaces on lower floors. All door widths were increased and a roll thru shower was installed to allow for wheelchair accessibility if required in the future. The entire house is controlled by a state of the art iPad home automation system controlling media, mechanical systems, lighting & security.
"Light & Bright" are the items our client wanted us to focus on, with "Light" we wanted to capture as much as natural light from the large windows as possible. Sommi Wine CellarsEverything in the cellar is custom, from the hand-crafted, leather-clad racking system and bulk storage compartments inspired by a trip the homeowners took to Italy.
The wine cellar holds over 1,000 bottles in total, with climate control to create an optimal long-term storage and aging environment, and two Perlick wine fridges for white wines and Champagne.
HU-235072162The site is located on the Mitchell House preparatory school campus in Polokwane. The client's brief
called for an early childhood development centre which would accommodate 122 learners and
requested that the building be evident of it's young and playful users.
Curiosity, wonder and intrigue would become defining criteria in an attempt to create a conducive
learning environment for young learners to grow, a building where children would be encouraged to
interact with their environment. The construction methodology of the building would remain apparent,
allowing its users to analyse the assembly of components.
Due to the age group of the users, the building would need to function semi-autonomously from the
rest of the school, while allowing for controlled interaction and inclusivity as is the norm for Mitchell
House. A linear plan which coincides with the developmental progress of the learners was identified
as the appropriate building typology. The spatial constraints of the site required this plan to be
moulded into the available space between the existing infrastructure, however the linear process was
maintained.
From the access-controlled reception and administration area one would move past the creative arts
and exhibition space towards the Northern wing where the youngest learners are taught. These would
share connected ablutions and storerooms between classes to enable fluid movement and
assistance throughout the teaching and service spaces. The East wing of the centre would house the
elder learners who would be in the process of being integrated with the fabric of the main school
campus. These classrooms include storage areas, however, have separate ablution facilities. The two
wings of the building surround a courtyard where play and interaction are in abundance.

In this bathroom you can see the solution to this age-old question, how to make a narrow space look grand.
The end of this bathroom boosts a huge 9' wide by 6' deep shower wet area with a freestanding tub on one side and a bench, niche and window on the other.
The vaulted ceiling above has 3 large skylights with one of them directly above the shower area. The skylights provide a huge amount of natural light that cancels any need for artificial lighting to be used during the daytime.
The main wall is dark Pietra grigio porcelain book matched slabs, while the sides are 48"x48" off-white porcelain tiles. The plumbing fixtures are Kohler Anthem digital control for the minimalistic look.
Right before you get into the wet area you will have a niche with a built-in seating area the doubles as a storage/laundry cabinet and two thick shelves made of Alder wood to compliment the vanity, the beam and the water closet door.
A 10' vanity with a large 9.5' mirror is a great trick to create a sensation of space in the narrow 5' passageway.
The final touch is the hidden water closet, the space was taken from the Walk-in closet entry area to hide the toilet from the beautiful spa looking bathroom.

CRC Builders Inc.The client purchased a mature, small, NAPA Valley vineyard to be their home and for personal enjoyment.
Once they began converting their new "hobby" grapes into wine, they soon realized they needed a place to "age" their labors and a place to then enjoy them. They decided to design such a place within the confines of their home where they could entertain family and friends.
The structure was modified to allow storage of more than 200 individual bottles, cases, and magnum size bottles. A cask room was added as was a well-appointed tasting room. The storage area is separated from the tasting and social area by a tempered glass doors and windows. The space to be converted was a challenge. No surface was plumb or level, therefore, the remodel involved interior walls, new floors and ceilings.
Until these issues were addressed, the beautiful cabinet work, and a complete temperature and humidity control system to store, maintain, and enjoy the wine could not be started. The floors had to be floated out and chases with faux finishes provided for HVAC and electrical. Lighting in the tasting room is provided by a series of recessed and puck lights.
The bar/counter area is highlighted by a custom, Tiffany style chandelier. Enough space was left in front of the bar to accommodate two serving tables for food and snacks, with plenty of room to move about the space. Discreetly hidden behind the bar is a large capacity cooler that can chill several bottles at once.
The bar is capped with eight lineal feet of Calcutta Gold Marble and sports a brass foot rail. The bar has grape panels between Acanthus Corbels and the bottle storage cabinet areas are a unique blend of Acanthus overlays under precisely cut and mitered grape design crown molding over and around a cleverly designed bottle storage system.
Traffic flow is achieved through the multiple points of entry through any of three pairs of 6' custom double doors which, when weather permitting, can remain open while entertaining. The host and hostess can attend food and beverage service from behind and around the bar through a separate doorway.
The temperature controlled cask storage area is large enough for the clients' current needs, and can accommodate a larger number of casks should the need arise.
The floor and walls of the cask room are designed for easy maintenance.. Both rooms are delightfully decorated with earthen tone faux finishes on walls, ceilings and floors reminiscent of a nonspecific European wine making region.
This effect is extended to the soffits in the tasting room. A unique wine racking system is easily stored, providing even greater ability to maintain and move about the storage area.

Total Pool + Patio, LLCA unique property nestled against a private vineyard this project is one that will truly age like fine wine. Total Pool + Patio, LLC designed this unique free form swimming pool and outdoor living space for our client to enjoy for years to come. The use of natural stone masonry and lush landscaping provides an ultra natural look and feel for this project.
