Designing a completely round home is challenging! Add to that the two tubes are merely 8' wide. We commissioned an artist to paint a beautiful wall mural inspired by the Hawaiian Islands providing color, texture, visual interest and most important... visual perspective. Rather than feel trapped by the limits of the metal walls, our homeowners a surrounded by the illusion of depth and a view beyond... thus creating a relaxing master retreat for this couple. Luxury bedding and accent pillows suggest a tropical escape, even though the room is located 20' underground.

Another fun Crestview project! This young couple wanted a back yard that reflected their bohemian-eclectic style and could add additional privacy from the ever climbing construction around them. A place for “hanging out and drinking coffee or beer in the backyard.” But what was most exciting, was the air stream they had just purchased and were in the process of restoring. With the end goal of using it as a guest home for family and friends, we were challenged with creating a space that was cohesive and connected this new living space with the rest of the yard. In the front we had another quark to fix. The sidewalk from their front door to the street suddenly stopped 5 feet from the curb, making a less than inviting entry for guests. So, creating a new usable entryway with additional curb appeal was a top priority. We managed the entertainment space by using modern poured concrete pad’s as a focal. A poured concrete wall serves as a bench as well as creates a visual anchor for the patio area. To soften the hard materials, small plantings of succulents and ground cover were planted in the spaces between the pads. For a backdrop, a custom Cedar Plank wall and trellis combined to soften the vertical space and add plenty of privacy. The trellis is anchored by a Coral Vine to add interest. Cafe style lighting was strung across the area create a sense of intimacy. We also completed the fence transition, and eliminated the grass areas that were not being utilized to reduce the amount of water waste in the landscape, and replaced these areas with beneficial plantings for the wildlife. This home office is the perfect addition to a master bedroom. It provides a quiet area to read and enjoy a cup of coffee away from the open living spaces. Custom built ceiling shelving includes under-mounted LED lights providing adequate reading light. Bench seats are upholstered in stylish geometric Kravet fabric and seats slide open for additional hidden storage. A beautiful and painted mural of the clients favorite vacation spot works perfectly with this curved wall surface and adds not only color, but perspective to this narrow 8' round tube... all surrounded with rich walnut wood paneling.

This bedroom wall mural is the perfect way to create the feeling of a larger space. It incorporates this family's love of Hawaii while creatively addressing the curved walls.

The Carving Studio includes a sink, work bench, TV, spot lighting from recessed cans, and decorative general lighting. The cabinets offer storage for items, such as grinders, power tool sharpeners, and hand tools, and for conveniences, such as laptops and printers.

This barn used to be the carriage house for an adjacent property, and was initially in pretty bad shape: no roof, sagging beams, and so much Redwood duff and ivy that the owner didn't realize there was a concrete floor underneath. A framer helped the owner reframe the barn from the inside, using dimensional lumber to keep the integrity of the original studs. (Back in the day, a 2 x 4 actually measured 2" x 4".) The siding seen here was originally on the inside of this same wall. Originally the barn had three "rooms", and when the third room collapsed the wall was replaced with plywood.

This guest bath is definitely an original with this tile that is based on Banksy's street art. You order the square footage you want and they send you whatever they see fit. Because it was a guest bathroom there was more latitude in the design direction. It was not going to be used on a daily basis. To ground the design we used a charcoal grey floor and simple white vanity. This is truly an original

Carport - large mediterranean detached two-car carport idea in Los Angeles

After losing their Rockport, Texas vacation home during Hurricane Harvey, this San Antonio couple made the difficult decision to rebuild. To reflect their easy-going nature, the family wanted to focus on relaxation and fun colors. On the ground floor there is a ramp to the amazing outdoor entertainment area with a kitchen, flat-screen TV, oversized island with barstools, glass garage doors and a great view of the canal! A stairwell leads up to second and main floor where sliding glass doors open to a stunning living room with a double-sided fireplace. Wood-look, plank tile floors are a practical element and add to the coastal feel. The spacious, open concept continues into the kitchen, dining area and game room, and the powder bath with the Airstream barndoor adds a fun, “found” flair. The two main bedrooms and private bath rooms, as well as the custom-built bunk room, are found on the third floor. Hidden nightstands on the bottom bunks are a special, functional feature, and a stunning glass tile wet bar with “live edge” shelves displays family mementos.

GUEST HOUSE, CARRIAGE HOUSE, AND BUNKHOUSE are just a few names for a similar type of structure. Lake homes tend to require storage for boats and jet skis, or perhaps a vintage sports car, or even simply overflow guest parking. Maybe all of the above. Combine this with the living space above, and this accessory structure becomes a unique space by any name. This barn-style space has five bays for cars and equipment, a workshop, and a full bathroom, all on the first floor, plus room for storage, tools, and easy access to clean up after chores. The second floor has two bedrooms, two baths, and ample living space. The kitchen, living, dining, and bar area are open to one another and showcased by the timber-framed cathedral ceiling—a covered deck with views to the river.
