Opera Prima Cubicle, Mirror, Wall Lamps. Lightness of line for aesthetic incisiveness, classic but contemporary. A recurrent theme, the irregular octagon, is the conceptual protagonist in this composition comprising a cubicle, mirror, and wall lamps. Octagons can be found in the shape of the side surface, the mirror frame, in the refined details of the signature seals. It is also original in the exclusive use of a single material, forged brass in different shapes, tubular and flat, the results of the highest Italian craft skills. A refined style striking for the effect of tension between a classical confidence of line and the futuristic allusions of the metal. Every item is made in compliance with the strictest sanitary standards and so guaranteed lead free. "Revival” implies a retread of an old idea—not our interests at Axis Mundi. So when renovating an 1840s Greek Revival brownstone, subversion was on our minds. The landmarked exterior remains unchanged, as does the residence’s unalterable 19-foot width. Inside, however, a pristine white space forms a backdrop for art by Warhol, Basquiat and Haring, as well as intriguing furnishings drawn from the continuum of modern design—pieces by Dalí and Gaudí, Patrick Naggar and Poltrona Frau, Armani and Versace. The architectural envelope references iconic 20th-century figures and genres: Jean Prouvé-like shutters in the kitchen, an industrial-chic bronze staircase and a ground-floor screen employing cast glass salvaged from Gio Ponti’s 1950s design for Alitalia’s Fifth Avenue showroom (paired with mercury mirror and set within a bronze grid). Unable to resist a bit of our usual wit, Greek allusions appear in a dining room fireplace that reimagines classicism in a contemporary fashion and lampshades that slyly recall the drapery of Greek sculpture. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a homeowner in possession of a leaking roof must be in want of repairs. And though it makes for a fun Jane Austen allusion, an unreliable roof is a serious problem. Water can cause a great deal of damage in a short time, so this homeowner wisely called us in to help. The roof of this custom-designed home was leaking in myriad locations, so our team removed the existing roof decks to access and repair the exterior trouble spots. The new deck was constructed atop a Bison pedestal system; in fact, we custom-designed the deck in panels that can be lifted for seasonal roof sweeping and simpler maintenance. The various roof decks were rebuilt with both reclaimed decking and new ipe decking. Our team also removed several faulty parapet walls and replaced them with a mixture of stainless steel cables and ipe railings. Finally, we took steps to prevent future drainage problems by applying a sealcoat to the exterior stucco and creating a copper drip-edge too. Leaking roofs are no laughing matter, but thanks to Houseplay, this story — like Austen’s Pride and Prejudice — had a happy ending. Photo Credit: Anne Ruthmann Photography

This kitchen remodel was designed by Gail from our Manchester showroom. This kitchen features Cabico Unique cabinets with maple wood, 200 (recessed panel) door style and Chantilly (white) paint finish. This remodel also features LG Viatera quartz countertop, with Aura color and pencil edge. The kitchen flooring is Armstrong 6”x48” vinyl plank click lock with Cinder Frost and Gray allusion. The backsplash is Anatolia 4”x10” Elegant Ideas with Tender Gray color and stone Radiance by Daltile accent tile with Glacier gray color. Other features American Standard Stainless steel sink, American Standard stainless pull down spray and matching soap dispenser. The cabinet hardware is Amerock satin nickel knobs, pulls and large pulls for drawers.

This is a rectangular pool that is centered on the family room windows of the primary focal point of the house. The spa is recessed in the pool to provide good access and not break up the symmetrical lines of the space. By viewing the length of the pool it gives the allusion of more depth to the yard. The understated diving platform provides the only safe place to dive in the pool and a water feature to drown out street noise. Colored and textured concrete were used for the deck and to cap the existing porches. Designed by Mike Farley.
