This Houston kitchen remodel turned an outdated bachelor pad into a contemporary dream fit for newlyweds.
The client wanted a contemporary, somewhat commercial look, but also something homey with a comfy, family feel. And they couldn't go too contemporary, since the style of the home is so traditional.
The clean, contemporary, white-black-and-grey color scheme is just the beginning of this transformation from the previous kitchen,
The revamped 20-by-15-foot kitchen and adjoining dining area also features new stainless steel appliances by Maytag, lighting and furnishings by Restoration Hardware and countertops in white Carrara marble and Absolute Black honed granite.
The paneled oak cabinets are now painted a crisp, bright white and finished off with polished nickel pulls. The center island is now a cool grey a few shades darker than the warm grey on the walls. On top of the grey on the new sheetrock, previously covered in a camel-colored textured paint, is Sherwin Williams' Faux Impressions sparkly "Striae Quartz Stone."
Ho-hum 12-inch ceramic floor tiles with a western motif border have been replaced with grey tile "planks" resembling distressed wood. An oak-paneled flush-mount light fixture has given way to recessed lights and barn pendant lamps in oil rubbed bronze from Restoration Hardware. And the section housing clunky upper and lower banks of cabinets between the kitchen an dining area now has a sleek counter-turned-table with custom-milled legs.
At first, the client wanted to open up that section altogether, but then realized they needed more counter space. The table - a continuation of the granite countertop - was the perfect solution. Plus, it offered space for extra seating.
The black, high-back and low-back bar stools are also from Restoration Hardware - as is the new round chandelier and the dining table over which it hangs.
Outdoor Homescapes of Houston also took out a wall between the kitchen and living room and remodeled the adjoining living room as well. A decorative cedar beam stained Minwax Jacobean now spans the ceiling where the wall once stood.
The oak paneling and stairway railings in the living room, meanwhile, also got a coat of white paint and new window treatments and light fixtures from Restoration Hardware. Staining the top handrailing with the same Jacobean dark stain, however, boosted the new contemporary look even more.
The outdoor living space also got a revamp, with a new patio ceiling also stained Jacobean and new outdoor furniture and outdoor area rug from Restoration Hardware. The furniture is from the Klismos collection, in weathered zinc, with Sunbrella fabric in the color "Smoke."

With two three-seat sofas in a cozy gray fabric, we've given the clients plenty of space to comfortably spread out. To define the space and tie its color palette altogether, we chose an oversized blue and cream wool area rug in a whimsical flourished pattern.

Block bottom draperies can simply boost a room’s décor. Using two puckered faux silk fabrics genuinely accentuates this Master bedroom’s windows. The beige fabric naturally coordinates with the room’s colors, while the rose fabric greatly compliments the room and adds a distinct accent. A smooth traverse rod with uncomplicated end caps introduces a simply unique contemporary flare. Altogether, these window treatments create a special aspect to this bedroom.

A selection of three coordinating fabrics creates a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for this master bedroom. Using a multicolored embroidered faux silk fabric for these pleated draperies sets the stage for this alluring color scheme. These draperies are hung on gold metal rods with decorative finials. A plaid fabric in red, green and gold is added for the bed skirt, pillow shams, and the rocking chair’s boxed seat cushion. For the bed’s finishing touch, a quilted coverlet in solid gold fabric naturally harmonizes the bed and window treatments. A single square pillow is repeated in the drapery’s fabric to integrate the room altogether.

The warmer season, upcoming Super Bowl Sunday, and a raging pandemic. These were the problems plaguing the World of Beer Bar in Tampa Bay, FL, when they got in touch with us for an outdoor bar pergola solution.
Outdoor Project
They wanted to entertain massive crowds of people and watch parties, but the guests could be limited to an outdoor seating space due to the area’s pandemic restrictions. The solution for the restaurant patio cover was the louvered roof system.
The World of Beer Bar decided on a modern pergola with an automated louvered roof to create an outside terrace where their customers can enjoy Super Bowl while maintaining the government’s SOPs due to the pandemic. They loved our R-Blade pergola as it offered a covered outdoor space where they could receive and entertain their guests.
They wanted the industrial patio cover installed on their outdoor terrace to offer rain protection to their customers. But they also wanted a part of the terrace to be uncovered so that their customers can enjoy the beautiful day outdoors.
R-Blade pergola design with the louvered system was the perfect solution for this beer bar’s outdoor space.

The challenges of this outdoor bar pergola project
Working on this outdoor bar pergola while keeping the pandemic restriction.
4 louvered roofs opening altogether as well as independently
outdoor bar pergola louvered roof with better sealing and less chance of leaks
4 louvered roof that open and close independently - outdoor bar pergola
This industrial patio cover for the outdoor terrace consists of 4 louvered roofs mounted to the bar’s wall. Additionally, the client wanted these roofs to open and close independently so that their customers can enjoy a nice beer and enjoy the Super Bowl watch parties outside when the weather’s good.
Automated screens for wind and rain protection
The R-Blade bioclimatic louvered roof installed at the outdoor terrace comes with outdoor screens, a rain sensor that prompts the pergola to close automatically when it detects rain. Moreover, the outdoor bar pergola has a wind sensor for automatic opening whenever it detects a strong wind force.
While offering the perfect ambiance to this convivial sports bar, it shelters the customers from winds during watch parties and gatherings.
Moreover, our modern louvered roof system is complemented by Azenco’s well-engineered invisible gutter system to drain the rainwater immediately, ensuring that the space under the pergola remains dry.
Grey bronze structure to match the bar’s overall look
We installed grey bronze structures that go very well with the sports bar’s overall look and ambiance. They also asked for white louvers to perfectly contrast with the grey bronze structures giving the outdoor bar pergola a more sophisticated yet friendly vibe.
The pergolas were designed to perfectly blend with the bar’s exterior, offering the perfect place for beer and sports enthusiasts to connect over their favorite teams in the Super Bowl.
Outdoor bar pergola features and Azenco’s solutions
As a result, we created an amazing restaurant patio design for the World of Beer Bar to entertain their guests outside even during the pandemic restrictions.
The louvered system was designed to blend with the sports bar’s look, so the structures were attached to the outdoor wall and crafted in grey bronze while the louvers were white.
Before the renovation, it was just an uncovered terrace on the second story of the patio. But now it’s the perfect outdoor sitting area for customers who come to enjoy the outdoors and watch Super Bowl. The elegant-looking louvers protect the customers from rain or the sun, while the uncovered part gives guests the perfect outdoor experience.
Not to mention that Azenco successfully installed the louvered roof before the Super Bowl 2021 started as the client needed to arrange an outdoor terrace to receive the guests.

This Escondido kitchen was transformed with a sleek yet bold and blue design. The dual-toned cabinets with painted linen Waypoint upper cabinets tie the open concept kitchen design altogether. The encaustic tile backsplash is the perfect match between the white and blue shaker cabinets. One of our favorite features in this renovated space is the under-the-cabinet lighting to brighten up this kitchen!

It’s important to make sure that all trees on your property are healthy and in good condition. This means hiring professional tree trimming services to maintain your trees yearly in order to keep them looking beautiful and healthy. In late winter or early spring is the best time to trim your trees. Doing so will help to improve the new growth that happens later in the spring. But fruit bearing trees and damaged trees can benefit from careful pruning in the summer. It takes an expert to skillfully trim trees during the summer without damaging them or causing harm and our team at Five Star Tree Services is just a call away to help you with your tree trimming needs!
Why Trim Your Trees?
By trimming your trees annually, this will not only open up your landscaping, which allows more sunlight to get to your property, but there are many other benefits.
These can include:
-Keep Trees Healthy and Promote Growth
When you trim your trees in the spring, before they start producing buds, this helps to stimulate more new growth, which helps to keep trees in excellent condition. This can be especially important for saplings as it encourages them to fill out nicely and in a controlled and structurally sound way. If you are not maintaining your trees properly, they can become too dense, which causes a bunch of problems. One being that it restricts the amount of sunlight getting to all the leaves and it reduces the amount of nutrient circulation needed to support the tree.
Professional tree pruning properly aids in tree growth and its overall aesthetic. Cutting off unneeded or unwanted branches allows other parts of the tree to grow easier. Ridding the tree of these extra branches also stimulates more leaf and fruit production.
-Increased Safety
Your landscape is affected when you neglect to take care of your trees, along with everything else on your property. If you have any dead trees remaining on your property, not only are you putting yourself at risk of injury, but you are putting your family, neighbours, pedestrians, and guests at risk as well. Dead or damaged branches can also be a hazard as they could fall at any time and impact with anyone standing too close to it, or it can fall on your house, which is another issue altogether, if it causes damage. Luckily, you are able to avoid all of this by simply having regular trimmings that will keep your trees healthy. You also need to make sure that all branches close to power lines are cut. This especially, should only be done by a trained professional in order to avoid potential electrocution.
-Increase Production of Fruit
If you are lucky enough to have a fruit bearing tree, it is especially important to have it professionally trimmed before and after it fruits. Doing so helps to improve its overall health and ability to bear fruit by getting rid of unhealthy branches. New fruit also develops and spurs for bearing fruit for the following year.
-Manage Spreading Diseases
Tree branches that are damaged tend to be prone to diseases which are able to spread to other plants and trees in your yard. Branches that are dead also have the potential to easily fall with any wind and especially during a storm. Severely damaged branches can even fall without reason. When you get your trees trimmed and pruned regularly, this prevents these things from happening. It also prevents spreading disease to other trees. Any disease branches should especially be trimmed if they are close to where kids play, people walk, or by doors.
-Increase the Value of Your Property and Overall Appearance
Continuous maintenance and trilling will improve the aesthetic of your property. It controls clutter and opens up the space of the landscaping. Meaning that the curbside appeal to your property increases. This is especially important if you are planning to sell your house, which will actually raise the value of your property. The first step in enhancing the appearance of your property is properly taking care of your trees. The first thing people see when they pull up to or go past your house is the trees. By simply pruning your trees you can make a good impression on potential buyers and your neighbours as well.
-Safeguarding Your Property
Owning a house is the biggest investment you will probably ever make. Making the effort to maintain and increase its value by keeping it in good condition should be your first priority. By trimming your trees regularly, you will be protecting your investment. Not to mention this also allows you to enjoy a nicely manicured property.
Why Professionals Are Essential
Professionals help to improve the health and overall condition of your trees. Trying to trim or prune your trees when you don’t know how can be detrimental. This is why hiring a professional, who has the right knowledge and tools, is better than trying to do it yourself.
-Cost-Effective
Think of it as a short-term expense for a long-term return on your investment. Allowing professional arborists to do your tree maintenance can potentially help to negate the costs of injuries attained from DIY home improvements related to trees, replacements and repairs.
-Skilled and Experienced
Real tools required for trimming a tree need to be handled properly and by the appropriate people. If a regular person were to try and use these tools, the end result could be injury and property damage. This is especially true for any trimming required around power lines. All professionals will have the right experience and skills required to wield these tools in a safe way. This minimizes the likelihood of hazards, injuries, and life-threatening incidents.
-Proper Tools
Heavy-duty chainsaws, ladders, and protective gear are all needed to safely and properly trim a tree. When you hire a professional, they have all the required tools and more. Meaning that you won’t have to go out and buy these tools yourself. As a professional, they also make sure that their tools are reliable and well-maintained in order to efficiently get the job done well.
-Insured
Professionals are also always insured with liability insurance when doing jobs to cover any damages or injuries attained while working. They are able to also provide a guarantee for the safety of your property and belongings while they are doing a job for you.

A “one of a kind” custom shaped cornice and its accompanying drapery panels authentically enhances this dining room’s windows. Giving off a contemporary flare, this combination of three separate fabrics genuinely harmonizes the space. The draperies and the circle component of the cornices’ fabric is a textured gold corresponding with the cornices’ main fabric, a textured gold diagonal weave. A tiny 1906 earthquake relief home nestled at the end of a narrow alley on the western slope of Telegraph Hill had been lifted above a garage in the 1930’s then added onto in the 1950’s. Built on the foundations of a church destroyed in the earthquake, the original home had an awkward plan, low ceilings, dark spaces and a collection of odd and clumsy materials. Positioned in the center of the block, with distant views to Nob Hill this is a distinctly urban setting, yet the home is surrounded by its neighbor’s gardens. Directly behind the home stood one of the largest Japanese maple trees in Northern California. This beautiful tree and its preservation prompted the architect to incorporate it as the focal point around which the new home evolved. During the remodel the 1950’s addition was demolished, the remaining structure gutted and 400 additional square feet were added to create a dramatic new contemporary home of high ceilings and flowing spaces all filled with natural light. Carefully skewed geometry and a sleek palette of materials in sensuous colors compliment the drama of space and garden.
In the shadow of the City’s historic landmark Coit Tower, this home is still a tiny wood sided bungalow from the street. The surprise hits immediately when one enters and an 18-foot high grid of windows embraces the Japanese Maple into the corner of the living room. The curving stairway wraps the bar, defining the kitchen and connects to an open bridge flying above to the secluded master bedroom. An arc of perforated steel off the master bedroom deck recalls the radiating forms inside, screening for privacy while filtering rays of sunlight. Radiating lines scored into the rose colored concrete further accentuate the rigorous geometry. Flush overlay birch cabinets are dyed purple for a continuing flow of color from the carpet. Black knobs, appliances, sink and laminate counters complete a composition, which starts with the black hex-crete concrete counter of the bar. Swirls ground into the aluminum facing of the bar wrap a sparkle into the foot of the stair. Sculpted walls shape the space and form niches, each washed with light from geometric fixtures, all linked by the rhythm of the steel cable rails. Smooth exterior grade plywood siding stained gray and turquoise provides crisp form on the exterior, at once in scale with the neighborhood, while denying scale altogether.

A generous glass enclosure forms the heart of this bathroom, its mosaic spine and built-in niches emphasizing thoughtful shower designs. Pale walls and sculpted trim wrap the room in soft coastal tones, while wood-look flooring introduces quiet movement. Mirrored doors and layered lighting enrich bathroom interior design, balancing privacy with easy flow. The plan reserves space for a soaking tub and broad pathways, supporting modern bathrooms with resort composure. Crisp cabinetry, integrated seating, and precise hardware showcase bathroom cabinets built for lasting function. Minimal ornament allows materials and proportion to lead, reflecting minimalist bathroom style and graceful bathroom renovation principles. Altogether, it offers bathroom ideas, bathroom decor, and bathroom tiles inspiration uniting luxury bathrooms with efficient bathroom remodeling for a serene, enduring retreat.
