Our clients are always teaching us. In this case, our clients had a vision that changed the direction of the design process midstream. Often our clients tell us they have trouble visualizing. This time, we must admit, we had a little trouble visualizing how their big idea was better than what we were planning. And then, it clicked! This young family of five had outgrown their dark and dated kitchen. Food prep, cooking and baking play a large daily role in this home. Pantry storage was overflowing to the point where bulk ingredients, small appliances and other daily necessities were stored in a nearby closet and the laundry room at the end of the house. Counter space was scarce. The kitchen also served as an office area for the husband, who works from home, and a study area for the three school age children. Given some constraints and a fixed budget, our inclination was to work with the existing kitchen to design a much more efficient space, keeping it close to the laundry room/pantry, which could be maximized for convenient storage and access. We would create an organized work area within the kitchen as well. Our clients were happy with the design. Then, out of the blue, they announced that they would like to move the kitchen into the family room space! Our first reaction was to question how this could work being so far from the pantry storage areas, and the other living spaces of the home. The flow seemed as though it would be odd, but we heard them out and allowed some time for the idea to blossom. And blossom, it did. The existing kitchen and eating space became the new study and family room with enlarged windows and an added sliding door bringing their beautiful gardens into clear sight. The pantry dilemma was solved by adding a full wall of tall cabinetry with roll out storage flanking a beautiful fireplace. A large island with waterfall sides provides copious counter space and seating for the whole family. Dark, dated traditional styling of the past kitchen gave way to contemporary high gloss white and warm rosewood elements. The dramatic Dekton Aura backsplash is the icing on the cake! Rosenberg Kolb Architects is proud to announce our renovation of a 1747 timber frame house on Nantucket Island, completed in 2011. The first historic renovation project in Nantucket to receive LEED Gold status. The project was given a Grand Award by Eco Home Magazine in July, 2011. The project included: Restructuring the foundations to align and stabilize the structure in addition to providing for a new insulated crawl space; A 260 square foot addition for a kitchen, bath, and new entry; New cedar shingles, roof shingles, and restored historic windows; The house met the strict regulations of Nantucket's Historic District. On the inside, LEED Gold certification was met through: High R-value insulation and reduced air leakage; High efficiency heating, air conditioning, plumbing fixtures, and appliances; Low-emission paints and finishes as well as a clay wall finish; Using reclaimed materials from the original house and other sites. This custom Kailua home announces itself with a floating white oak staircase — glass-wrapped, integrated-lit, and unmistakably the soul of the house. From there, the design unfolds with the same precision: open-concept living flowing into a refined kitchen with natural stone countertops, custom cabinetry, and warm brass fixtures. The details are where this home earns its character. Handmade pearl white tile from Brazil, textured with subtle palm motifs, runs through the space as a quiet nod to the tropics. Rattan vanities, built-in bunk beds, and an outdoor shower round out a home where organic materials and clean lines feel less like design choices and more like a natural extension of the Kailua coastline it sits beside.

Renovation and addition of an existing cottage on Fisher's Island, NY. The house sits high on a hill that leads down to Long Island Sound and has 180 degree views. The exterior architecture respects the client's home next door using the same roof slopes, dormer details and same exterior materials. However, we updated the details in a more crisp and modern style. The transition starts at the front door where we created a new stone and open rafter portico announces the main entrance using cross members of steel cables instead of more traditional wooden collar ties. The interior picks up on this transitional style with the large great room using the same cross members of steel cables along with skylights to bring in more sunlight. Natural wood in lighter shades were used along with stone to give texture and warmth to the interiors. This beautiful home in one of Bonita Springs’ premier golf and country club communities underwent a spectacular makeover by Green Mountain Builders. Green Mountain Builders has just announced the completion of an extensive remodeling of a luxury home in Pelican Landing, Bonita Springs, Florida. The transitional-inspired style makeover provides transformed outdoor and indoor living areas.
