This cluster of two cottage courts is the National Association of Home Builders 50+ Housing Award winner. The cottages are simple yet elegant and are geared toward todays 50+ lifestyle. The Cottages are located within the Village at Saluda River Club. A NAHB BALA award winning community also planned by Allison Ramsey Architects.

An extraordinary WARHOL collection was the starting point of this project for a family with young kids in need of functional yet stylish interiors. Brightly colored, lacquered walls are the backdrop for the art which dictated the colors used. Custom built-ins and 3 dimensional walls add interest and definition to the spaces. Floating stairs are crafted from solid oak beams salvaged from a barn in Oregon. The stringer is black painted steel. The enclosed stairwell acts as a sculptural anchor. An airy and light feeling inhabits this kitchen from the white walls to the white cabinets to the bamboo countertop and to the contemporary glass pendant lighting. Glass subway tile serves as the backsplash with an accent of organic leaf shaped glass tile over the cooktop. The island is a two part system that has one stationary piece closes to the window shown here and a movable piece running parallel to the dining room on the left. The movable piece may be moved around for different uses or a breakfast table can take its place instead. LED lighting is placed under the cabinets at the toe kick for a night light effect.
