Brittlebush (Encelia farinosa) is a profuse bloomer. It's golden, sunflower-like blooms dance above its soft, gray-white foliage and leave these charming yellow stems when they retreat. It's tough and beautiful. Its dried resin is used as incense. It's excellent in the high desert - Palm Springs, Joshua Tree and Anza Borrego State Parks - and the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valley heat gives it no trouble.

Older home in desirable Phoenix central core neighborhood gets Hall Guest / Family bathroom makeover. New materials and look pays tribute to American and French Industrial vibe influences, European Boutique Hotels and classical old world stone finishing seen throughout public spaces across Europe. The vibe is old world and warm but, the plumbing fixtures & lighting are 2019 new.

Winterberry Holly (Ilex verticillata, native shrub for full sun to part shade, dry to wet soil). Great fall and winter interest when the leaves turn yellow then fall leaving red, orange or yellow berries on bare stems. Berry color dependent upon variety type. Needs a male plant near by for pollination and berry production. Great source of food for overwintering birds and nice cut branches in pots for winter interest. Ruth Consoli Design

Colorful stairs to bring life and cheer to a vinyl-sided gray and white 1920 foursquare house in historic Woodstock, IL. When the home was purchased, the stairs were in serious disarray. Detail was added to the bases of the handrail posts and each tread was painted a different shade of purple from the same Benjamin Moore paint chip. The purple range used was matched to the flowers of existing hosta plants adjacent to the stairs. The jadeite green handrails were matched to a piece of antique jadeite kitchenware. In the core of downtown Toronto, the client had recently purchased a condo into the luxury 55 Stewart Building/Thompson Hotel. The unit was a bit warn-in and was in need of some updating from the previous owner. We started with a fresh paint job throughout the unit to add a bit more of personal touch to the unit. Kitchen cabinetry was updated as well to keep with the tons of the unit along with new light features above the island. The monochromatic palate of the unit keeps it very neutral but brings in warmth with some textured materials and greenery. Soft lighting fits the space exceptionally well to maintain the feel in the evening. The mix of marble, black matte metal and dark wood furniture blends seamlessly together. And with keeping storage furniture open allows for more light to come through and make the space feel much bigger than it really is.
