Interior elements, such as the continuation of the dining room ceiling out onto the extended roof, are reflected onto the design of the exterior realm. Interior and exterior not only visually and spatially communicate but exist as one.

Old world Spanish Villa with deep, thick plaster walls and groin vaults. Arches are plentiful, along with views of the Thousand Oaks and Westlake valley. This comfortable home is designed for a wonderful, fun family with two children. The place of many gatherings of friends and family, it radiates a warmth and love of good times with great friends. Deep rich blues, aqua and terra cotta colors throughout this home, with travertine versaille patterned floors. Deep loggia and patios all around the home take advantage of all the mountain and valley views, while keeping the family and friends warm in cooler times. The entire sprawling villa is wrapped around an inside patio with a fountain and hand made Malibu Tile pots. All furniture is hand made, from distressed and rustic tables to custom upholstery in jewel tones. A built in bar for entertaining in the great room, a very large family room with deep blue fabric wrap around sofa, hand knotted rugs in the living room, master bedroom and family room. A master suite with light creamy white walls, a plaster fireplace and a metal poster bed looks through a sitting room with turquoise accents. The home has 6 fireplaces, of which three are outside, some carved in limestone, others in spanish plaster. Designed by Maraya Interior Design. This elegant, transitional living room is awash in soothing tones of aqua and sand. The standout piece is the Persian rug in these updated colors. The clients wanted to keep their sofas, so we reupholstered all the pieces in 3 different yet coordinating fabrics. Tangerine welt and a brightly colored throw pillow in orange and aqua pop against the off-white of the chenille covered sofa in this lovely living room which has been converted from an old mill. An Asian side table with beautiful fretwork detailing is finished in a high gloss coral and echoes the tangerine band of the drapery panel behind it. This client wanted a simple change and add Aqua. The furniture, lamp and clock needed to stay in the same position for her to be comfortable. The space feels lighter and brighter. Looking for a rug to incorporate the rust and Aqua together.

A storage ottoman fabricated in the same fabric as the dining room chairs connects the two areas. An aqua sofa with custom Robert Allen throw pillows to match the custom window cornice.

Our goal on this project was to make the main floor of this lovely early 20th century home in a popular Vancouver neighborhood work for a growing family of four. We opened up the space, both literally and aesthetically, with windows and skylights, an efficient layout, some carefully selected furniture pieces and a soft colour palette that lends a light and playful feel to the space. Our clients can hardly believe that their once small, dark, uncomfortable main floor has become a bright, functional and beautiful space where they can now comfortably host friends and hang out as a family.
