Great room - mid-sized contemporary porcelain tile great room idea in Vancouver with white walls and no fireplace

The exposed wood beam ceiling brings a rustic note to this elegant living room, which contains a curated collection of the family's treasured antiques. Pieces of the house's original first period rough wood framing are intentionally left visible throughout the house, highlighting the home's long history. WKD’s experience in historic preservation and antique curation restored this gentleman’s farm into a casual, comfortable, livable home for the next chapter in this couple’s lives. The project included a new family entrance and mud room, new powder room, and opening up some of the rooms for better circulation. While WKD curated the client’s existing collection of art and antiques, refurbishing where necessary, new furnishings were also added to give the home a new lease on life. Working with older homes, and historic homes, is one of Wilson Kelsey Design’s specialties. This project was featured on the cover of Design New England's September/October 2013 issue. This West Vancouver new build has all the bells and whistles any modern home could dream to have. Builder Quinton Construction did a phenomenal job creating a top-quality home. Troico was happy to complete all the cabinetry on this project. The large eat-in kitchen and spice kitchen boasts shaker cabinets from our Midtown Series collection in Troico White. The custom hood fan is a work of art and frames the kitchen well. We especially love the glass on the top row of all the ceiling-high cabinets. The bathroom vanities and mirrors were also a pleasure to build and showcase the level of detail in the home. All bathroom millwork is painted white, keeping with the tone of the home. The home’s traditional undertone shows through in the built-in benches, media room and family room cabinetry which is stained a custom espresso. This was a dream project! The clients purchased this 1880s home and wanted to renovate it for their family to live in. It was a true labor of love, and their commitment to getting the details right was admirable. We rehabilitated doors and windows and flooring wherever we could, we milled trim work to match existing and carved our own door rosettes to ensure the historic details were beautifully carried through. Every finish was made with consideration of wanting a home that would feel historic with integrity, yet would also function for the family and extend into the future as long possible. We were not interested in what is popular or trendy but rather wanted to honor what was right for the home.

Upon moving to a new home, this couple chose to convert two small guest baths into one large luxurious space including a Japanese soaking tub and custom glass shower with rainfall spout. Two floating vanities in a walnut finish topped with composite countertops and integrated sinks flank each wall. Due to the pitched walls, Barbara worked with both an industrial designer and mirror manufacturer to design special clips to mount the vanity mirrors, creating a unique and modern solution in a challenging space. The mix of travertine floor tiles with glossy cream wainscotting tiles creates a warm and inviting feel in this bathroom. Glass fronted shelving built into the eaves offers extra storage for towels and accessories. A oil-rubbed bronze finish lantern hangs from the dramatic ceiling while matching finish sconces add task lighting to the vanity areas.
