Beautiful Built-ins - Manhattan, NY
This couple wanted a creative way to store and display their cherished collection of books and artifacts. Since space is at a premium in Manhattan, they also needed hidden storage for other everyday household items. The solution was to create a wall of built-in shelving to become an integral part of the living room décor and enhance the living/entertaining space, which is the focal point of this apartment.

In this combination living room/ family room, form vs function is at it's best.. Formal enough to host a cocktail party, and comfortable enough to host a football game. The wrap around sectional accommodates 5-6 people and the oversized ottoman has room enough for everyone to put their feet up! The high back, stylized wing chair offers comfort and a lamp for reading. Decorative accessories are placed in the custom built bookcases freeing table top space for drinks, books, etc. Magazines and current reading are neatly placed in the rattan tray for easy access. The overall neutral color palette is punctuated by soft shades of blue around the room.

My client wanted some wall units built in so she could display some art pottery that she collects. Her husband plays many musical instruments. Instead of the "same ole, same ole" why not create art with the built-in to house the art displayed? The beautiful guitar was trimmed with abalone and turquoise and was beautiful and I thought it should be seen and admired so I created a guitar shaped niche with bookmatched grain surround and spotlight. The shelves were various sizes and shapes to accomodate a variety of artifacts. A couple of feature shapes were also lit.
