Remodel of guest bathroom. This space was originally part of the garage and then converted into a guest bathroom and adjacent guest bedroom. We assessed whether the awkward soffit wall could be removed, but it would have been far too complex and expensive. So we made the most of the existing footprint. Tile from The Tile Shop - Annie Selke Flora Vapor Blue & Lombardia White Polished for shower walls and Matte for floors. Grohe shower & sink faucet fixtures, grab bars and bathroom accessories. Kohler Santa Rosa toilet. Robern Mirrored Cabinet. Baldwin door handle and vanity pulls & knobs.

The clients wanted to update their ranch house and make good use of their unusually large site next to downtown Mountain View. We sketched several options for design and scope of work to assess feasibility and value to the clients.
The chosen design retains an existing bedroom wing, while the layout of the living spaces is re-worked to an open plan flooded with light, with vaulted ceilings and strong indoor-outdoor connection to a yard optimized for outdoor living. Awkward angles and inefficient spaces of the former house have been replaced with a clear, simple floor plan designed for ease of everyday living.
One end of the site is used for a two-bedroom ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) with its own face to the street and its own back yard. Income from the ADU will go a long way toward financing the rebuild of the main house.

1950’s kitchens need love too and make great remodels. These Homeowners contacted Castle for help on the kitchen remodel. The biggest wishlist items included a larger and more functional kitchen layout with expanded views into the previously completed rear addition/dining room. After some conceptual design concepts were assessed, we chose to keep the kitchen in the existing footprint and expanded the site lines into the rear dining space with a new drywall opening. We expanded the function of the kitchen by wrapping the peninsula around into the dining room with an additional pantry space for kitchen overflow storage. Each cabinet was well thought out for the homeowners use of the space to include functional storage accessories like plate divides, utensil pull-outs, and trash/recycle bins.
Working with the designer, the homeowners found a beautiful balance of some contemporary aesthetics like the overall color scheme combined with some classic elements such as the detailed cabinetry and herringbone tile backsplash. One of our favorite details in the kitchen is the new tile floor that continues into the dining room. The wood texture plank tile adds depth and texture and contrasts nicely to the more soft and refined finishes above. New Cambria quartz countertops, new cabinetry, herringbone tile backsplash, new tile floors, custom lighting, and new plumbing fixtures complete the space. The new transitional styled kitchen can grow with the family for many years to come. With a swap out of some furniture the whole space can transition to both contemporary or traditional. Timeless.

Our clients wanted to refresh their kitchen without replacing their existing cabinets. After assessing their cabinetry, we found that refacing was the ideal solution. They chose a wide shaker door in a sleek Stratus color for the perimeter cabinets, while the island was finished in a beautiful Sage hue. To complete the transformation, we installed a Carrara Miksa quartz countertop and a Miramo 2” x 5” Picket Mosaic backsplash in Pearl. The result? A stunning, refreshed kitchen with a modern and elegant feel!

Our client approached us while he was in the process of purchasing his ½ lot detached unit in Hermosa Beach. He was drawn to a design / build approach because although he has great design taste, as a busy professional he didn’t have the time or energy to manage every detail involved in a home remodel. The property had been used as a rental unit and was in need of TLC. By bringing us onto the project during the purchase we were able to help assess the true condition of the home. Built in 1976, the 894 sq. ft. home had extensive termite and dry rot damage from years of neglect. The project required us to reframe the home from the inside out.
To design a space that your client will love you really need to spend time getting to know them. Our client enjoys entertaining small groups. He has a custom turntable and considers himself a mixologist. We opened up the space, space-planning for his custom turntable, to make it ideal for entertaining. The wood floor is reclaimed wood from manufacturing facilities. The reframing work also allowed us to make the roof a deck with an ocean view. The home is now a blend of the latest design trends and vintage elements and our client couldn’t be happier!

This Denver home in Stapleton needed a partial siding replacement despite having been built about 9 years ago. The home was built with low-grade composite siding that was swelling and cracking severely.
We only installed new siding on the left and rear elevations of the home leaving the rest of the siding intact. We installed James Hardie Hardie siding and trim. Then we painted a contemporary color scheme with Sherwin-Williams Duration exterior paint on the entire house to match. We will assess the damage and work with our homeowners to maximize on the siding repair and replacement. The transformation is stunning. Even for a newer community, this home’s exterior stands out among the neighborhood.

Rear patio was assessable from paver drive court and garage.

ShadeFX carried out a site assessment and installation for homeowners in Paris, Ontario. Two 14’x10’ retractable roofs in the waterproof and fire-retardant Ferrari Champagne fabric protect the family from sun and rain.

Here's a chimney that had been neglected for far too long. Roofers rarely assess & address the flashing needs of the chimney, and they typically just leave it.
In this case, the diverter had started leaking, leaving the original 70+ year old flashing on the house. We removed the original flashing & counter flashing. Then, we framed a larger diverter, and installed a custom fabricated diverter, colored to match.
Before & after pictures are outstanding!

The owner of this period cottage in the old market town of Tadcaster near Leeds, had what was once a beautiful Yorkshire stone floor in the kitchen. It has been a long time since it had been given a proper clean so over the years and with the Kitchen being a high traffic area the whole floor including the grout had darkened and he now wanted it refurbished in time for Christmas.
I visited the property to assess what needed to be done and could see straight away that any protective sealer that was once on the floor had long since worn off. In fact, it was so consistently dirty with years of built-up grease and dirt I had to wonder if one had ever been applied.
I explained what the floor needed was a really deep intensive clean and then a sealer applied to make it easy to keep clean. The problem with most tile and stone is its porosity and if left unprotected dirt easily becomes lodged into its pores making cleaning a struggle.
To prove the difference that can be achieved and to allow me to work out a process on which I could base an accurate quote I ran a test clean on part of the kitchen floor. The test clean went very well, the difference was remarkable, and the cleaned section really stood out. Pleased with the potential of a clean floor they accepted my quote, and we pencilled a date in the diary.
I returned on the appointed date and began by removing the kickboards from under the kitchen units to protect them from splashing. Next, I set about spaying the floor with a strong dilution of Tile Doctor Pro-Clean, this is a purpose made tile and grout cleaner that eats into the grease and dirt so it can be removed. This product works best if you leave it for ten minutes before scrubbing in using a heavy-duty machine fitted with a heavy-duty brush. The soil released from the floor was then extracted using a wet vacuum.
The Pro-Clean did a good job on the grout however it was clear something stronger was required to really get the stone clean, so I stepped up a gear and applied Tile Doctor Remove and Go using the same process as before. This is a really good product for removing deeply ingrained grease and dirt.
The final step of the cleaning process was to give the stone and acid wash using Tile Doctor Grout Clean-Up to remove old grout haze and other mineral deposits; additionally, being an acidic product, it counters the alkaline cleaning products used earlier neutralising the pH level of the floor and leaving it ready for sealing.
Before sealing I like to discuss the different products available and the finishes they can provide. In this case my clients’ main concerns were that they wanted the stone to look natural and easy to maintain going forward.
With this in mind, Tile Doctor Seal & Go Extra was chosen, it’s a modern acrylic-based sealer that brings out the natural colours in the stone and gives a very slight smooth finish. The protection it provides will prevent dirt becoming ingrained int the pores of the stone and ensure the floor is easier to maintain. Several coats were applied, until we achieved the required finish.
The deep cleaning process and fresh sealer transformed the stone floor bringing out its original beauty and my customer couldn’t believe the difference in the floor and was highly delighted.
For aftercare I gave the client a bottle of Tile Doctor Neutral Cleaner, this product is pH neutral so it will clean the floor but won’t damage the sealer. Often people use household cleaners for cleaning tiled floors, but due to the strong chemicals they contain, they can do more harm than good by slowly stripping away the protective sealer and taking the floor back to square one. Tile Doctor Neutral Tile Cleaner is reasonably priced, and the concentrated formula means a small amount goes a long way so it’s well worth using.
This was a pleasurable job for me as it was good to see the floor transform from dull and lifeless to clean and showing the natural colour and beauty of the York stone, and always lovely to have another satisfied client.
