In this basement redesign, the primary goal was to create a livable space for each member of the family... transitioning what was unorganized storage into a beautiful and functional living area. My goal was create easy access storage, as well as closet space for everyone in the family’s athletic gear. We also wanted a space that could accommodate a great theatre, home gym, pool table area, and wine cellar.

A family of passionate athletes and sports aficionados embarked on a remarkable endeavor alongside our team and Studio M Merge. Their vision? To breathe new life into their outdated mid-century modern home and neglected pool, resulting in the dramatic “Sports Enthusiasts’ Hideaway.” The transformative journey focused on opening the interior spaces out toward the beautiful gardens and amenities. The renewed house features expanded open-plan living areas, a new bedroom, and a reimagined primary bath. An attached ADU added a sports bar and a flexible office space that can double as a private guest bedroom. The outdoor spaces were brought to life with the addition of expansive decks, inviting patios, a horseshoe pit, a basketball half-court, refreshing plunge pools, and a lush sports lawn. A pool house artfully frames the view from the pool to the neighboring golf course. This family of five finds themselves immersed in their expanded home and experiential outdoor hideaway. Every element has been thoughtfully designed to cater to their favorite activities, providing a peaceful haven where they can fully indulge their shared passion for sports.

At this pool’s deep end a custom-hued natural stone diving rock was built in two tiers to provide easy access for little divers. The adjoining underwater swim out bench is handy, especially when repeat attempts are needed to perfect technique. This arrangement provides endless hours of fun!

This elegant backyard graces the Canadian summer home of a US based professional hockey player. His wife is also an athlete at the international level, so the demands of continuous training makes owning a backyard pool and spa a wellness essential. You can only imagine the endless energy of their three young boys!

Commissioned by a Colorado-based contractor, our design challenge was to harmoniously integrate a trio of outdoor amenities into the landscape. We envisioned a sprawling patio that seamlessly connected to a regulation-sized basketball court, providing both recreational and relaxation spaces. Adjacent to the court, an inviting outdoor pool, surrounded by a luxurious lounge area, was crafted, ensuring residents and guests could effortlessly transition from a spirited game to a serene dip. This cohesive design transformed the space into a versatile haven, blending athletic function with resort-style relaxation.

Beautiful lime stone pool in Monticieto. The building materials would deteriorate with a traditional chlorine system for disinfection. This pool required an ozone system to sanitize the water with out the corrosive effects of chlorine. This pool is virtually chemical free, and the ozone system provided outstanding clarity to the water making it more athletically pleasing then a chlorine pool would be.

This family north of Toronto has athletic teenagers, so the pool is now the perfect place to unload excess energy. Since the backyard slopes at the far end, the pool is elevated with a section of deck for diving and steps that lead down to an adjoining patio. Out of view on the left is a large cabana with retractable walls that shelter a lounge area, wet bar and washroom/change room. The blue granite liner is beautifully complemented by Wiarton flagstone coping and a deck of architectural patterned concrete. Three sheer descent waterfalls on an elevated feature wall help complete the look. (21 x 34, custom rectangular)
