"Builder Beige" new construction. This guest bath came with bare white cabinets, grey walls and basic frame less square mirror with vanity light over the mirror. I added this black oversize picket tile back splash with charcoal/black grout. I replaced the builder grade mirror with a round metal framed one. We changed the lighting by, removing the light above the mirror and added two sconces, one on each side. For the final touch, I added the black hardware, to ensure the white cabinets remain white for as long as possible. Cabinets without hardware tend to get dirty quicker, because the doors pick up the oils from our hands. I wanted to avoid that for as long as possible. The water closet came with this out-swing shower door. The space was extremely tight for the smallest of people, so for anyone of any size would feel closed in. So, I switched out the builder grade out-swing shower door with a semi-frame-less sliding shower door. This allows for more room to move around, opening the space up just a tad.

The goal of this master suite remodel was to design a luxurious yet simple environment that was not only beautiful but also comfortable, and designer Lori Wiles brought the transformation to life. The remodel was a transformation of the unused storage area in the bottom level of the clients’ home. Wiles' creative problem solving did more than just hide basement remodel problems like low ductwork and poorly located pipes. Instead, these obstacles served as a source of inspiration for some of the most interesting aspects of her design, such as the angular wood-paneled headboard wall with built-in nightstands. Following a stone, fire, water, and wood theme, the materials used in this master suite strongly relate to nature. Water flows to the tub from the stone accent wall in the bathroom, and an opposing stone wall in the bedroom creates a dramatic backdrop for a seating area. Both walls contain candle-filled niches and Cherry wood is employed throughout, creating warmth and continuity. To further achieve the natural look and feel of the bathroom, Wiles incorporated a variety of stones. The shower and immediate area around the freestanding tub feature pebble accent flooring that complement the surrounding large, rectangular tile floors. Eldorado Stone’s Black River Stacked Stone was chosen because it offered different textures and dimensions of the black, rugged, stacked stone, resulting in an organic environment that provides relief from the flat surfaces. By using quality materials such as Eldorado Stone, designer Lori Wiles was able to create a zen-like space that exceeded her client’s expectations. When our clients come to us with a tight schedule and budget, we know exactly what to do. That’s exactly what happened recently when a remote homeowner from New York contacted Mary Ann and Aiden Fabrics for design help. She purchased a home in Wild Dunes, and within two weeks the plan was finalized with indoor and outdoor furniture, fabrics, rugs, window treatments and wall paint. Mary Ann was able to get everything installed in time for the spring renting season, which is a must in this area. The client’s main goal was to work with durable, washable fabrics, and she also wanted to stay within her budget. Mary Ann chose a sofa with Tempotest outdoor fabric. Her client smartly chose ‘cordless’ woven shades to avoid issues with small children. The end result is a beautiful space for many families to enjoy on the Isle of Palms!

The original ensuite bathroom in this condominium required renovations to replace problematic Kitec plumbing. The layout in the space remained the same, but improvements were made to address certain design challenges with lighting, automation, and space. The aim was to create a modern bathroom design with textured wood features, and the feel of metallic black accents. A number of prominent changes were made to improve the use of space. The original entry, a left-handed door swinging into the bathroom, was replaced. It interfered with the vanity clear floor space. It also made the use of the bathroom difficult when two users were present. It was changed to a soft closing pocket door. To avoid losing space it was installed by creating a wall cavity on the outside of the bathroom. This door also included frosted glass panels to allow natural light into the space. Double sliding glass shower doors were also installed to address access issues to the shower valve. Storage improvements included the installation of dual inset medicine cabinets, and pull out drawers within the wall hung vanity. The depth of the medicine cabinets were extended outwards, and this nice detail was finished with a textured wood finish. The addition of the wall hung vanity also created the feeling of more space beneath the units and allowed for under cabinet lighting. Lighting and automation improvements included the addition of HUE LED lighting. This was done by installing two shower pot lights, a 6” main potlight, and under cabinet lighting. These are all controlled by the Philips Hue App that programs routines, scenes, and other settings. Some of the other highlights of this modern bathroom include dark grout, which contrasts nicely with the elongated white tile, a thermostatic shower system, herringbone textured porcelain floor tile, and a Schluter Kerdi waterproofing shower system. This bathroom is made most unique though with the choice of wallpaper, which can be described as modern luxury, a graphic take on agate stone patterns with metallic embellishments.
