We love designing resorts and beach homes! So when this wonderful Vero Beach, Florida project came along, we donned our thinking caps and immediately got to work! Our clients wanted this breezy second home to be a comfortable haven, perfect for those long lazy summer days or weekend getaways. We designed a warm, welcoming style plan and combined old and new treasures to create an ever-lived-in home. A neutral color palette creates a soothing environment and acts as a fresh canvas to add attractive nautical-themed decor. A beautiful medley of ocean blue accents throughout the house completes the ultimate beach house ambience. This project was managed by our Orlando location. This is the perfect family room layout for 4 boys! An open modular sofa allows them to sprawl and watch TV with a separate sitting area off to one side. On the rear ( TV ) wall we wanted to break up the white shiplap so our team custom hand painted the finish, slightly distressed in shades of gray, cream, blue & teal - so fun! Under foot, a jute and sisal blended rug grounds the space and 4 square woven cubes serve as either a large coffee table or individual foot rests! A pair of ceiling fans overhead add to the breeze and are finished in a driftwood gray with silver metal cage detail and seeded glass.

This three-story Westhampton Beach home designed for family get-togethers features a large entry and open-plan kitchen, dining, and living room. The kitchen was gut-renovated to merge seamlessly with the living room. For worry-free entertaining and clean-up, we used lots of performance fabrics and refinished the existing hardwood floors with a custom greige stain. A palette of blues, creams, and grays, with a touch of yellow, is complemented by natural materials like wicker and wood. The elegant furniture, striking decor, and statement lighting create a light and airy interior that is both sophisticated and welcoming, for beach living at its best, without the fuss!

The breathtaking ocean views influenced the dramatic redesign of this water-front Poipu condo. The outdated condo was completely remodeled to allow full appreciation of the surrounding views, bring in a fresh new color palette, and modernize and update everything from the electrical wiring to the new luxury bath towels. The clients wanted the condo to feel “fun, happy, and cheerful,” and to stand apart from the typical vacation rental on Kauai. They wanted to turn this condo into the ultimate “beach house” that felt just as luxurious as the gorgeous natural surroundings. Fresh white ship-lap walls set the backdrop for this modern beach style, which is further enhanced with bold stripes, natural textures, and ocean-themed decor. The palette of cobalt, aqua and lichen green is fresh and vibrant against the neutral backdrop. Trina Turk’s “Peacock Print” was the inspiration fabric for the living and dining room. The print is so lively, colorful, and modern, and was the perfect place to start. Every custom detail was thoughtfully chosen to bring a sense of luxury and originality to the space. While some elements are whimsical, such as the playful octopus art & fish-themed fabric, other elements are sophisticated and classic, to help keep the design grounded. Special features include a custom-made “Moroccan Fish Scale” tile backsplash in the kitchen, crushed marble counter tops with oyster shells and float glass, and blue glass pendant lights, reminiscent of water bubbles.

Melanie Roy’s challenge in designing an extremely functional mud room to accommodate a busy family’s needs was to create a place for everything from crab nets and straw mats in metal buckets to beach towels, flip flops, balls and various summer paraphernalia in wire baskets. The challenge was that the room had no cubbies so boat cleats were used for hanging items up and out of the way and baskets and buckets for easy-access storage under a rough-hewn table. She created a beach theme by anchoring the space with a Stark rug with a wave design. Artists’ rendered surfboards are decorative but often accompany surfboards that are constantly in use. A window seat/bench is upholstered in a waterproof Duralee fabric, piped with jute, so you can sit on it even in a wet bathing suit.
