We love it when a home becomes a family compound with wonderful history. That is exactly what this home on Mullet Lake is. The original cottage was built by our client’s father and enjoyed by the family for years. It finally came to the point that there was simply not enough room and it lacked some of the efficiencies and luxuries enjoyed in permanent residences. The cottage is utilized by several families and space was needed to allow for summer and holiday enjoyment. The focus was on creating additional space on the second level, increasing views of the lake, moving interior spaces and the need to increase the ceiling heights on the main level. All these changes led for the need to start over or at least keep what we could and add to it. The home had an excellent foundation, in more ways than one, so we started from there. It was important to our client to create a northern Michigan cottage using low maintenance exterior finishes. The interior look and feel moved to more timber beam with pine paneling to keep the warmth and appeal of our area. The home features 2 master suites, one on the main level and one on the 2nd level with a balcony. There are 4 additional bedrooms with one also serving as an office. The bunkroom provides plenty of sleeping space for the grandchildren. The great room has vaulted ceilings, plenty of seating and a stone fireplace with vast windows toward the lake. The kitchen and dining are open to each other and enjoy the view. The beach entry provides access to storage, the 3/4 bath, and laundry. The sunroom off the dining area is a great extension of the home with 180 degrees of view. This allows a wonderful morning escape to enjoy your coffee. The covered timber entry porch provides a direct view of the lake upon entering the home. The garage also features a timber bracketed shed roof system which adds wonderful detail to garage doors. The home’s footprint was extended in a few areas to allow for the interior spaces to work with the needs of the family. Plenty of living spaces for all to enjoy as well as bedrooms to rest their heads after a busy day on the lake. This will be enjoyed by generations to come.

Nordic Lam engineered beams, made in Quebec, span the open dining area. The steel Hamsa brackets were designed by the owner/architect, cut with a high-pressure water jet and assembled at a local steel yard. Inspiration for a transitional exterior home remodel in Birmingham

In this project, our team renovated an apartment that had previously been converted from a warehouse into a loft. The space is a study in contrasts, blending exposed brick and original rough-sawn columns and beams with warm colors and soft lighting. The bathroom was completely gutted and remodeled, and we removed a closet to create space for a compact laundry unit. We also stained and finished the corner wood column, which had been hidden previously. All new tile and plumbing fixtures were installed, maintaining the old-fashioned, industrial feel of the space. Repurposed materials – such as the table-turned-vanity, and the shelf brackets constructed from pipes and plumbing fittings – capped off the design. In the kitchen, removing an oversized pantry closet created additional counter space and opened up room for the refrigerator as well. Our team installed new countertops and a subtle tiled backsplash too. The finishing touch was new lighting throughout the apartment, including feature lighting in the dining area and entryway. Salem NY renovation. This Victorian home was given a facelift with added charm from the area in which it represents. With a beautiful front porch, this house has tons of character from the beams, added details and overall history of the home.

An 1800’s carriage house sets the stage for this classic kitchen remodel. The homeowners wanted to be true to the architecture of their home while incorporating top quality, cutting edge appliances and modern day conveniences. They are discerning cooks who entertain often. The original kitchen, done in the 1990’s, had built-out walls covering the original stone of the house. Once exposed and repointed, the stone served as an amazing backsplash in the space, and we were able to gain almost 12” in the width of the room! The fabulous matte black BlueStar range is topped off with a unique antique fireback and is complimented by hand-pegged, hand-planed custom cabinetry that are scribed to the stone walls with precision. The distressed soapstone counters bring warmth to the space that makes you want to cozy up and stay a while. Since the kitchen does not allow for an island, the unused dining room was turned into a combined bar area and butler’s pantry. This small room packs a lot in with antique heart pine countertops, beadboard backsplash, and cabinetry backs, which provide a warm, casual feel. An additional refrigerator and dishwasher, as well as an icemaker, all hidden behind cabinetry panels, provide everything they need, and more, for entertaining family and friends.
