This client asked Firefly Garden Design to create a deep flower border with vibrant colors for her Pewaukee Lake garden. Lady's Mantle, bearded irises, Caradonna Salvia and Firewitch Dianthus look great together,

The main entrance to the property is two discreet gravel tracks through the lawn. A 300 foot long perennial garden changes colours with the seasons. In early spring golden yellow narcissus and daffodils bloom with muscari and scilla In late spring the garden transforms into a riot of indigos, blues, violet and a dash of orange: geraniums, baptisia, lupins, iris, campanula with oriental poppies. In the summer through to fall white dominates always with touches and accents of deep blues and violet and orange: white phlox, hollyhocks & echinacea with veronicastrum, asters, bella conda lilies, yellow roses and hemerocallis.

Ottawa's springs are sometimes tumultuous, when everything blooms at once during a hot spell. Usually though, there is a more gradual sequence of bulbs over a 4-month perioed, starting with the smallest crocus and snowdrops (as early as March/April), then other small bulbs like muscari in April/May, then the larger bulbs - hyacinths, daffodils, followed by a parade of tulips in May, and finally the bearded (German) iris in June. It's best to have free-draining soil, or a sunlit slope for this kind of garden - there are plenty of areas in Ottawa that support this kind of garden - think Tulip Festival!

The Family Fire Pit Patio. We remodeled the existing patio cover columns and wood, added a white glass fire pit and raised stuccoed planters and staircase leading to the upper Champagne Terrace. Wisteria softens the patio cover columns and the lush planting of lavender, bearded iris and roses provide a serene backdrop.
