Beechwood sits on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in Oxfordshire. Employing high-quality materials, simple detailing and robust forms, the design produced a contemporary and sustainable home appropriate to its context. The materials used in the project push conventional design boundaries but sit together harmoniously in the woodland setting. Blue/black engineering brickwork combine with pre-weathered Corten steel cladding, enabling the house to bleed into the landscape. Implementing energy saving solutions was integral to the success of this project and was a key part of the client brief. The design followed best practice in nine categories of sustainable design: energy and CO2 emissions, water, materials, surface water run-off, waste, pollution, health and wellbeing, management and ecology. Beechwood achieved a Level 4 certificate under The Code for Sustainable Homes.

She cheers for bright colors. He bleeds nothing but MSU Green. So how does she seamlessly blend her feminine aesthetics with his long-established collection of all things Spartan? And how is this captured in a shared office space, all while embracing their home’s traditional architecture? These design questions were quickly answered after LiLu developed a materials palette that combines energy with serenity. Staining custom-designed, traditionally detailed built-in cabinetry a cool gray contrasts the warm oak floor. Painting the cabinet insets with vertical colored stripes offsets the gray stain, grounds the space, and creates a visual rhythm. The colors of the stripes reflect her favorite hues and his Spartan green. And we integrated small touches of his favorite sports team such as a Letterman ’S’, collectables and Spartan green in subtle ways. From there our design team created a highly functional floor plan, complete with individual storage and separate work stations. We used wall space strategically to accommodate file and book storage, careful not to overwhelm the cozy room. The result is a his and hers home office that has become quite the fan favorite. Inspiration for a large transitional u-shaped medium tone wood floor and brown floor open concept kitchen remodel in San Francisco with raised-panel cabinets, granite countertops, beige backsplash, stone tile backsplash, an island, white cabinets, stainless steel appliances and an undermount sink

When the Gimbels department store chain closed in 1986, many of its selling floors were converted into luxury apartments, including those of this branch at 86th Street and Lexington Avenue. The retailer’s soaring ceilings allowed Axis Mundi to create bedroom mezzanine spaces overlooking the living and dining rooms. Defining them with translucent glass welcomed natural light while retaining privacy. Downstairs, spaces bleed one into another, their basic monochromatic black-and-white palette acting as a unifying leitmotif. Yet each space feels distinct, with its own programmatic purpose, a feat largely achieved by varying floor and wall treatments—a graphic tile pattern in the entry, a red wall in the hall leading to the master suite, a colorful area rug in the living room. In the retailer’s heyday, the then-common saying, “Would Macy’s tell Gimbels?” implied the strategies the competitors kept from each other to gain the upper hand. Here, a structure iconic in its day also conceals something: a handsome, wholly contemporary repurposing that represents just the sort of innovation that made Gimbels the celebrated name that it was. We make these pillows from old grain sacks from Eastern Europe. The pair have a deep red triple stripe down the center, and the body is a medium oatmeal color. They are sewn with a zipper closure, and since we prewash all our vintage fabrics in a hot wash cycle, you can re wash them over an over again without fearing color bleed or shrinking. We try to retain any original patches, hems, seams, flanges, and or ties that were original to the bags. Comes with a down feather insert. Measures 20 x 20 sold as a pair only.
