Hupomone ranch is an original 160-acre homestead located in the Chileno Valley, just three miles west of downtown Petaluma. The ranch had been fallow for over 30 years and the owners wanted to build a family house that would reflect their commitment to sustainable farming, draw on the natural serenity of the site and build on the sense of place in western Petaluma where farming and ranching are still a part of people’s daily lives. The Arianne is a custom made piece of furniture crafted by the world-renowned Spanish manufacturer Famaliving. This particular design has a retro look to it with the greatness of modern comfort. This sectional is crafted with a modular design so that you can arrange them in any configuration that suits your needs. Attached to the bottom of each piece are metal hooks that hold the separate sections together to form a solid sectional. Unhook each piece and spread the sections apart to create a individual seating setup. The Arianne can come upholstered in a wide variety of colorful and patterned fabrics and over 150 different leather color options. The frame of each section is crafted from pine wood and MDF construction making it very durable. All Fama products use a webbing system for suspension and support instead of the old spring design that will sag over years to come. The leg supports come in a round, black-finished wooden design or chromed metal option for a sleek look.

The Lulu is a special, one of kind modern sofa that perfectly combines the classic look of a Chester sofa with sophisticated, contemporary design that will easily enhance your home’s decor. Classic quilted buttons coupled with the arc design made by the back and arm combination are features that add eye-catching appeal. The Lulu is crafted and custom made in Spain by Famaliving, a world-renowned manufacturer. It can come upholstered in a wide range of colored and patterned fabrics, in fact, you have over 600 options to choose from. The construction of this sofa is solid because it consists of pine wood and MDF for durability; and like all Fama products, it uses a webbing system for suspension and support instead of the old design consisting of springs that sag over time. Attached to the bottom are metal legs that not only come in various color options, but also allow the sofa to have a low profile design.

A nostalgic but modern hue covers the walls and ceiling of the living room. The oil painting centered over the heirloom chevron settee offers a chance to pull color for a painterly palette. The ceiling fixture is made of twigs.

Our poster project for The Three P's, this small midcentury home south of campus has great bones but lacked vibrancy - a je ne sais quoi that the clients were searching to savoir once and for all. SYI worked with them to nail down a design direction and furniture plan, and they decided to invest in the big-impact items first: built-ins and lighting and a fresh paint job that included a beautiful deep blue-green line around the windows. The vintage rug was an Etsy score at an awesome price, but only after the client spent months scouring options and sources online that matched the vision and dimensions of the plan. A good year later, the West Elm sofa went on sale, so the client took advantage; some time after that, they painted the kitchen, created the drop zone / bench area, and rounded out the room with occasional tables and accessories. Their lesson: in patience, and details, there is beauty.

Coastal Estate in St. Michael's Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. House was designed after the original 1770's house on the property. Home was designed to be a formal house but was now being used as a weekend retreat. Ann Kenkel had to decorate the house in a manner which was coastal enough so owner's felt like they were on vacation yet formal enough for the style of the house.
AK found the house filled with wallpaper from the 1980's. Wallpaper from every room was removed and all trim had to be painted a neutral color.
The formal dining room only had one entry. AK opened up a second entry into the dining room which provided a view of the Chesapeake Bay.

Elegant living room photo in St Louis with beige walls and a standard fireplace

Located in Menlo Park, California, this 3,000 sf. remodel was carefully crafted to generate excitement and make maximum use of the owner’s strict budget and comply with the city’s stringent planning code. It was understood that not everything was to be redone from a prior owner’s quirky remodel which included odd inward angled walls, circular windows and cedar shingles.
Remedial work to remove and prevent dry rot ate into the budget as well. Studied alterations to the exterior include a new trellis over the garage door, pushing the entry out to create a new soaring stair hall and stripping the exterior down to simplify its appearance. The new steel entry stair leads to a floating bookcase that pivots to the family room. For budget reasons, it was decided to keep the existing cedar shingles.
Upstairs, a large oak multi-level staircase was replaced with the new simple run of stairs. The impact of angled bedroom walls and circular window in the bathroom were calmed with new clean white walls and tile.
