The client’s brief was to create a space reminiscent of their beloved downtown Chicago industrial loft, in a rural farm setting, while incorporating their unique collection of vintage and architectural salvage. The result is a custom designed space that blends life on the farm with an industrial sensibility.
The new house is located on approximately the same footprint as the original farm house on the property. Barely visible from the road due to the protection of conifer trees and a long driveway, the house sits on the edge of a field with views of the neighbouring 60 acre farm and creek that runs along the length of the property.
The main level open living space is conceived as a transparent social hub for viewing the landscape. Large sliding glass doors create strong visual connections with an adjacent barn on one end and a mature black walnut tree on the other.
The house is situated to optimize views, while at the same time protecting occupants from blazing summer sun and stiff winter winds. The wall to wall sliding doors on the south side of the main living space provide expansive views to the creek, and allow for breezes to flow throughout. The wrap around aluminum louvered sun shade tempers the sun.
The subdued exterior material palette is defined by horizontal wood siding, standing seam metal roofing and large format polished concrete blocks.
The interiors were driven by the owners’ desire to have a home that would properly feature their unique vintage collection, and yet have a modern open layout. Polished concrete floors and steel beams on the main level set the industrial tone and are paired with a stainless steel island counter top, backsplash and industrial range hood in the kitchen. An old drinking fountain is built-in to the mudroom millwork, carefully restored bi-parting doors frame the library entrance, and a vibrant antique stained glass panel is set into the foyer wall allowing diffused coloured light to spill into the hallway. Upstairs, refurbished claw foot tubs are situated to view the landscape.
The double height library with mezzanine serves as a prominent feature and quiet retreat for the residents. The white oak millwork exquisitely displays the homeowners’ vast collection of books and manuscripts. The material palette is complemented by steel counter tops, stainless steel ladder hardware and matte black metal mezzanine guards. The stairs carry the same language, with white oak open risers and stainless steel woven wire mesh panels set into a matte black steel frame.
The overall effect is a truly sublime blend of an industrial modern aesthetic punctuated by personal elements of the owners’ storied life.

HAWTHORNE HAMPTONS The Hawthorne House is a fusion between the Classic Queenslander and Hampton style home. The Harmony between the 2-style work well together and we had to be sympathetic to the existing pre-1946 character home. The street scape had to be fused together between old and new so the house read as one and would stand the test of time. The clients brief was to make the house more functional for the family with more space and usable areas that connected all spaces to the outdoors. The lower rooms still had to capture natural light and breeze but have a connection to the outdoor courtyard area. The current house lacked views of the Brisbane city so the key for the design was to enhance the city views from the upstairs living areas with large doors and windows that framed the city. The client particular wanted WOW features in the house. Upon arriving at the entrance, a large void/Entrance carries your attention up through the house with the stunning coffered ceilings and wainscoting drawings your eyes to the upper floors. The 1st floor was all about connecting the living areas together while enjoying the amazing Brisbane city views. The heart of the house is the Kitchen that connects the indoors and outdoors together. Outdoors is where the family can enjoy their summer days around the pool area.Hawthorne House is a truly stunning house with Hampton details that make this house a truly enjoyable house to live in.

The apartment is located in a dreamy Chaillot area near Passy Water reservoirs and Arc de Triomphe in Paris XVI. The property is filled with lots of natural light and offers magnificent views straight to the water. We can even spot the Eiffel Tower.
The brief was to create a welcoming, modern yet cozy space filled with original art, modern and vintage timeless furniture and collectibles, mixing them with some already client’s owned furniture and art. The most important task was to source an exceptional dining table for 13 people to make family and friends’ jaws drop and make client’s heart jump from excitement. The client wanted to feel herself at home for the next several years of living at this rented property and wanted this interior to be her own reflection.
AUTHENTIC INTERIOR design studio also sourced unique, interesting pieces of art as well as furniture. What is the most exciting about sourcing hand-made, vintage or designer pieces is to learn their origin and the “why” – the real meaning of the design.
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”. – William Morris

The homeowners’ challenge centered around a former 15’ by 60’ concrete slab previously used as a batting cage. This entertaining respite was a natural extension of its unique site and trusting clients. Four large glass garage doors allow the interior space to breath on tranquil days or to protect the revelers on one of Texas’ brief but cold winter spells. A covered, but open sided patio with stone fireplace is adjacent to the interior space. An added side patio with trellis shade structure offers another entertaining option. Finally, the central space and vocal point is replete with a cowboy cauldron in open air and in perfect harmony with Texas’ bright skies and starry nights. The covered outdoor kitchen is within easy access to the fire pit for campfire cooking. Reclaimed wood warms the underside of the standing seam metal roof. Design only. Construction by others.

A couple took ownership of their new residence on a top floor of a quiet street in central Lisbon. Our studio’s brief was to transform the duplex into a hideaway to detach from daily life and spend quality time with visiting relatives.
The design manifests family-focused features: upon entry, there is plentiful storage for shoes and coats; in the main living room, a custom island crafted in solid surface extends the compact kitchen into the social area, seamlessly bridging cooking and convivial gatherings. A buffet supports more elaborate meals. Sculptural pendants and niches that accentuate horizontal continuity favor interaction between the dining and flexible lounge areas.
Reimagined with durable materials, the bathrooms embrace efficiency and elegance. Cabinetry is integrated around the planes of countertops and insets carried across the room. Dark wood and textured accents punctuate the white surfaces, grounding the spaces in tactile warmth. The bedrooms, designed for adaptability, offer separable sleeping arrangements, peaceful workspaces, and versatile wardrobe solutions.
The light-toned furniture and organic elements are tailored to the interior, softening the contrasting architectural palette and rectilinear forms. Soothing accent lighting is interwoven throughout, offering an adaptable, serene atmosphere.

This new contemporary home built vertically on a challenging site, takes advantage of the spectacular 180 degree views of Puget Sound with mountain and water vistas. The brief was to create a contemporary yet warm environment where friends and family could gather. A warm palette of calacatta marbles and white oak combined with elegant but comfortable furnishings allow the amazing natural environment beyond to play center stage.

Valley Garden Landscapes North Manly
Valley Garden Landscapes had been referred to our clients in North Manly by their rear neighbour whose garden also appears on the projects page as “New Pool No Problem”!!.
They had recently bought the property and were keen to renovate their backyard landscaping, maximise the garden areas for their young family.
The old layout included a large wall across the middle of the garden which effectively cut the space in two and made both the lawn and pool areas feel cramped and uninviting.
The clients brief was to create an open family friendly garden with a coastal theme. The resulting garden is a great success from the renovated shed (now a beautiful pool cabana) to the large format bluestone paving, built in barbecue and restored decking.
Troughs and bowls were chosen to complement the paving and planted up with low maintenance succulents. Fabulous, comfy lounge furniture has been installed to really create inviting living areas around the garden. The children can still play on the lawn area as well in the cabana which perfectly captures the last remnants of the afternoon sun.
