A unique three-panel bi-fold door, separates the indoor-outdoor space; on nice days, plenty of natural ventilation flows through the house. Opening the sunroom, living room and kitchen spaces enables a free dialog between rooms. The kitchen level sits above the sunroom and living room giving it a perch as the heart of the home. Dressed in maple and white, the cabinet color palette is in sync with the subtle value and warmth of nature. The cooktop wall was designed as a piece of furniture; the maple cabinets frame the inserted white cabinet wall. The subtle mosaic backsplash with a hint of green, represents a delicate leaf.

Outdoors, the Sky Terrace presents an opportunity to relax or explore, with landscaped borders flanking private seating areas. The mood here is natural, peaceful and restorative with abundant greenery presented in bold geometric shapes. This outdoor terrace allows visitors to escape from the city, whilst at the same time absorbing Karachi’s breathtaking views.

The double sided fireplace provides ambiance to the Master Suite and Outdoor Dining areas.

Our inspiration for this home was an updated and refined approach to Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Prairie-style”; one that responds well to the harsh Central Texas heat. By DESIGN we achieved soft balanced and glare-free daylighting, comfortable temperatures via passive solar control measures, energy efficiency without reliance on maintenance-intensive Green “gizmos” and lower exterior maintenance. The client’s desire for a healthy, comfortable and fun home to raise a young family and to accommodate extended visitor stays, while being environmentally responsible through “high performance” building attributes, was met. Harmonious response to the site’s micro-climate, excellent Indoor Air Quality, enhanced natural ventilation strategies, and an elegant bug-free semi-outdoor “living room” that connects one to the outdoors are a few examples of the architect’s approach to Green by Design that results in a home that exceeds the expectations of its owners. The butterflies appear to be floating out of the crib like a dreamscape. Instead of "Z Z Z"s, the butterflies which are handmade and hand applied to the wall, twist and turn as they rise towards the 13 foot ceiling.
