Inspiration for a timeless kitchen remodel in Boston with an undermount sink, glass-front cabinets, green cabinets, black backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island and black countertops

The stunning two story dining room in this Bloomfield Hills home, completed in 2015, allows the twenty foot wall of windows and the breathtaking lake views beyond to take center stage as the key focal point. Twin built in buffets grace the two side walls, offering substantial storage and serving space for the generously proportioned room. The floating cabinets are topped with leathered granite mitered countertops in Fantasy Black. The backsplashes feature Peau de Béton, lightweight fiberglass reinforced concrete panels, in a dynamic Onyx finish for a sophisticated industrial look. The custom walnut table sports a metal edge binding, furthering the modern industrial theme of the buffets. The soaring ceiling is treated to a stepped edge detail with indirect LED strip lighting above to provide ambient light to accent the scene below.

White built-ins and traditional wallpaper chosen by the architect is counterpoint to rustic elements. Earthy and elemental materials are selected for the home that reference the barn without directly mimicking it. Wooden members found inside the barn and from other barns bridge ceilings and are used in floors along with rustic slate adding to a sense of simplicity to the farmhouse design.

Cabinets are painted shaker doors with glass inset panels. the project was designed by David Bauer and built by Cornerstone Builders of SW FL. in Naples the client loved her round mirror and wanted to incorporate it into the project so we used it as part of the backsplash display. The built in actually made the dining room feel larger.

With the lower ceilings in this cottage basement we had to figure out how to maximize the bunk space without banging heads. This box mount on the floor solution did the trick. The column adds support and makes the bunks appear to be floating. The stained wood ladders that become safety rails are just one more detail that the builder and his sons added to the mix.

The dining room features a custom WoodMode cabinetry built-in hutch in Vintage Nimbus with a granite counter top which acts as a buffet when the dining room is in full use. The room is accented in a large Restoration Hardware table, Louis XVI style chairs, and crystal chandelier.

The kitchen, breakfast room and family room are all open to one another. The kitchen has a large twelve foot island topped with Calacatta marble and features a roll-out kneading table, and room to seat the whole family. The sunlight breakfast room opens onto the patio which has a built-in barbeque, and both bar top seating and a built in bench for outdoor dining. The large family room features a cozy fireplace, TV media, and a large built-in bookcase. The adjoining craft room is separated by a set of pocket french doors; where the kids can be visible from the family room as they do their homework.

This home remodel is a celebration of curves and light. Starting from humble beginnings as a basic builder ranch style house, the design challenge was maximizing natural light throughout and providing the unique contemporary style the client’s craved. The Entry offers a spectacular first impression and sets the tone with a large skylight and an illuminated curved wall covered in a wavy pattern Porcelanosa tile. The chic entertaining kitchen was designed to celebrate a public lifestyle and plenty of entertaining. Celebrating height with a robust amount of interior architectural details, this dynamic kitchen still gives one that cozy feeling of home sweet home. The large “L” shaped island accommodates 7 for seating. Large pendants over the kitchen table and sink provide additional task lighting and whimsy. The Dekton “puzzle” countertop connection was designed to aid the transition between the two color countertops and is one of the homeowner’s favorite details. The built-in bistro table provides additional seating and flows easily into the Living Room. A curved wall in the Living Room showcases a contemporary linear fireplace and tv which is tucked away in a niche. Placing the fireplace and furniture arrangement at an angle allowed for more natural walkway areas that communicated with the exterior doors and the kitchen working areas. The dining room’s open plan is perfect for small groups and expands easily for larger events. Raising the ceiling created visual interest and bringing the pop of teal from the Kitchen cabinets ties the space together. A built-in buffet provides ample storage and display. The Sitting Room (also called the Piano room for its previous life as such) is adjacent to the Kitchen and allows for easy conversation between chef and guests. It captures the homeowner’s chic sense of style and joie de vivre.

A full renovation for this boy's bedroom included custom built-ins on both ends of the room as well as new furniture, lighting, rug, accessories, and a Roman shade. The built-ins provide storage space and elegantly display an extensive collection of sports memorabilia. The built-in desk is a perfect place for studying and homework. A farmhouse style was achieved in this new construction home by keeping the details clean and simple. Shaker style cabinets and square stair parts moldings set the backdrop for incorporating our clients’ love of Asian antiques. We had fun re-purposing the different pieces she already had: two were made into bathroom vanities; and the turquoise console became the star of the house, welcoming visitors as they walk through the front door.
