This modern outdoor living space mere blocks from the beach is replete with all of the best staycation features. There is a cozy, yet refined screened patio space with a glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) wrapped spa that is situated opposite a Wolf-equipped outdoor dining and seating area. A custom GFRC fireplace with GFRC mantel connects the areas, while providing a touch of privacy. Through the retractable screens, a pair of Restoration Hardware chaise lounge chairs call for a sunning session. To beat the heat our clients can retreat to the pool and recline on the end-to-end sun shelf. Artificial turf and a stretch of Mexican beach pebble frame the pool and generous porcelain coping. Year 3: This container has gotten a lot of attention throughout the years and seasons. Check out all the years to see how each Fall we make it look different and appealing to the visitors. This year we added pumpkins around the container to add a bit more fluff to the area.

As summer turns to fall and the temperature and collective mood both shift to “sweater weather,” summer annuals can be replaced with autumn tones and textures. This purple, white, and pink cottage garden was due for a fall refresh.The changeover is both functional and aesthetic: hearty annuals that are built for cooler temps also bring richer, earthier, jewel-toned hues that evoke the feeling of fall. Here we let annual salvia stick around from summer, as its deep blue-purple spires echo the shape of feathery perennial grasses, and will anchor and transition the garden’s color palette into autumn. Magenta spikes of celosia dance in the background, and periwinkle, pink, and violet asters, along with plum mums, electric purple pansies, and dusty blue-purple cabbages form layers of textured color for a charming, cozy cottage look.

Knowing we wanted to maximize the amount of light and keep the Scandinavian feel, lots of white and blonde woods were used. 6” wide wire-brushed white oak flooring was installed. Farrow & Ball No.2001 Strong White was used on all walls, ceiling and trim. The existing brick fireplace was painted in No.2001 as well to create subtle texture. All interior & exterior doors were then painted out in Farrow & Ball No.31 Railings for a deep inky blue black contrast. The kitchen cabinetry is a combination of natural quarter sawn white oak and matte lacquer maple all done in Astro’s House Brand cabinetry. Simple matte black square knobs complete with back-plate create a crisp graphic quality to warm bright kitchen. The counters are a combination of Caesarstone 1141 Pure White quartz created the low maintenance hardworking surface needed for a young family. Along the stove wall a subtle backsplash was installed. The marble mosaic from Montreal’s very own MUD Tile (sold exclusively via Astro), was used to create depth, elongated hexagon Rock Salt mosaic nods toward the Scandinavian arts and crafts movement. A simple drywall hood fan was used against the mosaic. The fan was painted out in Farrow & Ball’s No.269 Cabbage White to pull the pastel green out of the mosaic.
