These homeowners were ready to update the home they had built when their girls were young. This was not a full gut remodel. The perimeter cabinetry mostly stayed but got new doors and height added at the top. The island and tall wood stained cabinet to the left of the sink are new and custom built and I hand-drew the design of the new range hood. The beautiful reeded detail came from our idea to add this special element to the new island and cabinetry. Bringing it over to the hood just tied everything together. We were so in love with this stunning Quartzite we chose for the countertops we wanted to feature it further in a custom apron-front sink. We were in love with the look of Zellige tile and it seemed like the perfect space to use it in.

Clients wanted their new loft to have a modern feel that incorporated some of their existing pieces. We went with a classic color combo of black, white and red. With concrete floors and brick walls we wanted to warm up the space with a few walnut pieces throughout. With most lofts, space planning can be a challenge. We wanted enough seating without cluttering up the spatially challenged loft. We went with a very versatile sofa with removable/re-positionable backs to allow for larger gatherings in need of more seating. The dining area we equipped with a full bar cabinet, a sideboard for storage and ability to serve a buffet. Refinished antique table and chairs is the center of attention. We did two large matching chandeliers to enhance the 14 foot ceilings. Overall we kept the space open and functional.

This 3,900 square foot Spanish style home was built by Sitterle Homes and designed with high ceilings, natural lighting, unique wall coverings, and contemporary interiors to show off a nice clean appeal throughout. The second floor covered balcony, large piano room and bar are just two of the many alluring areas one can forget about it all. Multiple outdoor living areas beautifully compliment a terraced rear yard design. The spacious kitchen and great room are ideal for entertaining large gatherings while the walk-thru shower of the master bathroom offer escapes resembling a trip to the spa. The distinction of style adds to the collective architectural beauty that make up the prestigious Inverness neighborhood. Located in North-central San Antonio, this three-bedroom house is only minutes from large parks, convenient shopping, healthy dining, and the Medical Center.

Living room - contemporary light wood floor living room idea in New York

When considering the scheme for the Corner Table Café, the Looms’ team opted to use the muted hues of Nantucket’s natural land and seascape (celadon, foggy gray, seashell white) – along with some local favorites, like Nantucket Red. The walls were decorative painted by Riptide Finishes in the colors of cream, gold and silver. With an eye on sustainability some of the old wood from the original building was painted and used in the ceiling. Hubbardton Forge light fixtures adorn the wall and hang from the ceiling. The furnishings in the café include built-in banquettes in an oak finish with celadon leather cushions with red wash oak café chairs. The celadon leather cushions are from Jerry Pair ‘In the Moo’d’, chosen for it's durability in high traffic areas. The pillow are Katie Leede fabric and the tables, coffee tables and chairs are from Design Workshop. Other inviting seating includes a Lee Industries upholstered sofa in a textured caramel high performance fabric ('Odin' fabric by Anichini). The two armchairs are Lee Industries covered in Duralee fabric in Nantucket Red and turquoise tones with flame stitching. The counter cabinetry is by Housefitters and the backsplash is an Alys Edwards tile, also from Housefitters, chosen for its caramel and teal tones to tie all the colors together. Chef Margolis' collection of cookbooks lines the window sills to be browsed by patrons while enjoying their meal.

A traditional, dark prewar apartment was opened up and reconfigured for better flow and modern amenities. Several maids rooms were reconfigured to yield a new eat-in kitchen and family rooms. Modern details complement and enliven the grand scale of the space. Before renovation, this apartment was an unattractive warren of small dark rooms. After gutting, an open airy feeling was attained through the use of space defining portals and sandblasted glass "window" rather than convention walls. Light colored floor and wall treatment give the apartment a level of brightness which bless the home's north-facing exposure. As one enters the space, a barrel vaulted corridor to the left leads to the bedrooms. To the right, a rotunda shaped space mediates a graceful shift int he circulations axis and celebrates a sense of arrival. Adjacent to this rotunda is at the Japonnaise black-tiled modern powder room consistent with the apartment's early modern classic design themes. Beyond the rotunda, one passes through an austere palladian portal to enter the living room. At one end, the original marble fireplace is framed by cabinetry and light emanating soffits which give it a lively new context. At the opposite end of the room, a rhythmically organized green wall defines the entry to the dining room. The lighting in these spaces reinforces the overall design concept: modern recessed down lights and indirect lighting are combined with more transitional wall sconces and Viennese chandeliers to create a synthesis of old and new. Like the living room and dining room, the kitchen also consists of two adjacent ante spaces: a general sized work area and a large breakfast / family room. The curved shape of the breakfast counter separating these two room is mirrored in the curved soffit above, adding a sensual note to the crisp black and white color scheme. The spirit of the turn of the center Viennese cafes is evoked by the Josef Hoffmann sofa and checkerboard tile floor. The formal qualities of this space make it appropriate for entertaining as well as for more casual family meals.

This was a dream project! The clients purchased this 1880s home and wanted to renovate it for their family to live in. It was a true labor of love, and their commitment to getting the details right was admirable. We rehabilitated doors and windows and flooring wherever we could, we milled trim work to match existing and carved our own door rosettes to ensure the historic details were beautifully carried through. Every finish was made with consideration of wanting a home that would feel historic with integrity, yet would also function for the family and extend into the future as long possible. We were not interested in what is popular or trendy but rather wanted to honor what was right for the home.

Warm, sandy woods, espresso tones, and light plush fabrics come together exquisitely in this open and bright living room. Our goal was to give our clients a luxurious but relaxed style which is why we introduced light earth tones and pale blues. Clean lines and symmetry are the fundamental elements of this design, so it was important to add in the right amount of texture. For this project, the entire kitchen was designed around the “must-have” Lacanche range in the stunning French Blue with brass trim. That was the client’s dream and everything had to be built to complement it. Bilotta senior designer, Randy O’Kane, CKD worked with Paul Benowitz and Dipti Shah of Benowitz Shah Architects to contemporize the kitchen while staying true to the original house which was designed in 1928 by regionally noted architect Franklin P. Hammond. The clients purchased the home over two years ago from the original owner. While the house has a magnificent architectural presence from the street, the basic systems, appointments, and most importantly, the layout and flow were inappropriately suited to contemporary living. The new plan removed an outdated screened porch at the rear which was replaced with the new family room and moved the kitchen from a dark corner in the front of the house to the center. The visual connection from the kitchen through the family room is dramatic and gives direct access to the rear yard and patio. It was important that the island separating the kitchen from the family room have ample space to the left and right to facilitate traffic patterns, and interaction among family members. Hence vertical kitchen elements were placed primarily on existing interior walls. The cabinetry used was Bilotta’s private label, the Bilotta Collection – they selected beautiful, dramatic, yet subdued finishes for the meticulously handcrafted cabinetry. The double islands allow for the busy family to have a space for everything – the island closer to the range has seating and makes a perfect space for doing homework or crafts, or having breakfast or snacks. The second island has ample space for storage and books and acts as a staging area from the kitchen to the dinner table. The kitchen perimeter and both islands are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Paper White. The wall cabinets flanking the sink have wire mesh fronts in a statuary bronze – the insides of these cabinets are painted blue to match the range. The breakfast room cabinetry is Benjamin Moore’s Lampblack with the interiors of the glass cabinets painted in Paper White to match the kitchen. All countertops are Vermont White Quartzite from Eastern Stone. The backsplash is Artistic Tile’s Kyoto White and Kyoto Steel. The fireclay apron-front main sink is from Rohl while the smaller prep sink is from Linkasink. All faucets are from Waterstone in their antique pewter finish. The brass hardware is from Armac Martin and the pendants above the center island are from Circa Lighting. The appliances, aside from the range, are a mix of Sub-Zero, Thermador and Bosch with panels on everything.
