Although it follows a typical chef’s galley layout, the unique design solutions and unusual materials set it apart from the typical kitchen design. Polished countertops, laminated and stainless cabinets fronts, and professional appliances are complemented by the introduction of wood, glass, and blackened metal – materials introduced in the overall design of the house. Unique features include a wall clad in walnut for dangling heavy pots and utensils; a floating, sculptural walnut countertop piece housing an herb garden; an open pantry that serves as a coffee bar and wine station; and a hanging chalkboard that hides a water heater closet and features different coffee offerings available to guests. The dining area addition, enclosed by windows, continues to vivify the organic elements and brings in ample natural light, enhancing the darker finishes and creating additional warmth. After many years of careful consideration and planning, these clients came to us with the goal of restoring this home’s original Victorian charm while also increasing its livability and efficiency. From preserving the original built-in cabinetry and fir flooring, to adding a new dormer for the contemporary master bathroom, careful measures were taken to strike this balance between historic preservation and modern upgrading. Behind the home’s new exterior claddings, meticulously designed to preserve its Victorian aesthetic, the shell was air sealed and fitted with a vented rainscreen to increase energy efficiency and durability. With careful attention paid to the relationship between natural light and finished surfaces, the once dark kitchen was re-imagined into a cheerful space that welcomes morning conversation shared over pots of coffee. Every inch of this historical home was thoughtfully considered, prompting countless shared discussions between the home owners and ourselves. Custom inset cabinets were our preference; however cost was a significant concern. The owner researched multiple companies and standard product lines to save on her budget. After careful analysis, we discovered that it was just as cost effective to use the local custom cabinet maker we preferred. This allowed for more precise detailing and unique features. The goal of a classical farm house kitchen character updated with modern features was able to be obtained much to the home owner's delight. A family room was added to this home, opening up to a screen porch that takes advantage of a previously unused side yard. The much needed new rear entry provides the family a space for their laundry room and is now the primary entry point from the detached garage. Great care was taken to ensure that the home’s new detailing could have been built this way originally. The space however needed to have a modern function for a modern family. The homes existing exterior had aluminum siding and trim which concealed original millwork and shingles. When the nondescript materials were removed, it was discovered that the original was in poor condition. Careful attention was taken to replace and/or repair original materials wherever possible around the entire home, in order to create a seamless exterior character.

Mutiny Bay Chair and Ottoman by David Gray. $4,750.00 set. 30 × 32 × 33"H. Fabric \ Cherry. David has been building the Mutiny Bay line of hardwood and upholstered seating for over a decade. Mutiny Bay is located on the west coast of Whidbey Island in the Puget Sound. The Mutiny Bay Chair and Ottoman are very comfortable yet modest in size, being perfect for condos or smaller scale living rooms. The furniture is made of solid cherry yet available in other woods by special order. The black details are inlays of solid ebony. Careful attention is paid to each detail, from the wood and upholstery selection to each step in the construction process. Custom-size end, sofa, and even dining and card tables are available to order with matching design elements. David's choice for fabric has come primarily from Sina Pearson Textiles, a small firm that designs their own fabrics in New York. Of course the furniture can be ordered with fabric of your choosing, including leather. Upholstery is done by Zavin Karaman and his wife Dorothy. Zavin is an old-world trained upholsterer who lives and works in Langley on Whidbey Island. Zavin was trained in Istanbul at an early age and has been doing upholstery all his life. He does each job with special care and attention.

Home design - contemporary home design idea in London

A brand new home is an opportunity to create from scratch and showcase the client’s style. This beautiful home backs onto the golf course providing gorgeous views while standing at the kitchen sink. The inspiration started from the helix mullion glass door cabinets. Careful attention to detail was given to create the layering of mouldings between the doors, crown, trims and base. Creating a streamline space was a necessity with a large kitchen. The distance between the fridge and sink is greater than normal but having a small sink on the island is incredibly helpful for preparation of meals. The follow of design between the kitchen and butler’s pantry was also important, and, was achieved with the use of helix doors.
