This Beverly Hills-style home in the hills of Lafayette, CA, designed by award-winning architect Steven Kubitschek features panoramic views of Mt. Diablo and an expansive Italian kitchen and caterer's pantry, with cabinets from Aran Cucine's Mia collection, a 16-foot island, Neolith countertop, and professional-grade SubZero and Wolf appliances.

Located near the kitchen, with an exterior door, this multi-purpose laundry rooms also works as catering prep area, a place to wrap gifts or a craft room. The red refrigerator, red-and-white tiles, red wood cherries and floral arrangement add cheerful splashes of color.

This family fell in love with a beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home that needed a few updates to fit their lifestyle. They needed more functional kitchen space for caterers and also for their own love of cooking. The kitchen island was redesigned to improve function and add extra oven space, a wine fridge and a prep sink. Block Builders replicated the original cabinetry style for the island and added Frank Lloyd Wright design elements to all of the cabinets. Custom Motawi tile and a stainless exhaust hood are featured above the Wolf range. Window banquette seating designed for the dinette makes the space more welcoming and comfortable. Hubbardton Forge lighting fixtures complete the new look.

Working with a long time resident, creating a unified look out of the varied styles found in the space while increasing the size of the home was the goal of this project.
Both of the home’s bathrooms were renovated to further the contemporary style of the space, adding elements of color as well as modern bathroom fixtures. Further additions to the master bathroom include a frameless glass door enclosure, green wall tiles, and a stone bar countertop with wall-mounted faucets.
The guest bathroom uses a more minimalistic design style, employing a white color scheme, free standing sink and a modern enclosed glass shower.
The kitchen maintains a traditional style with custom white kitchen cabinets, a Carrera marble countertop, banquet seats and a table with blue accent walls that add a splash of color to the space.

A social space that catered for serious entertaining was sought by my husband and wife client.
The dwelling’s kitchen was upstairs, so the outdoor kitchen needed to work independently to avoid double handling of dirty dishes and rubbish.
Hard landscaping was underway with a retained area designated for the kitchen. Weathertightness was a major requirement with the ability to shut the kitchen away when not in use.
An automated louvred roof system with rain sensors would provide protection from rain and sun.
The louvred roof had LED strip lighting to which further task lighting was added.
Four Motorised Zip Screen Mesh Blinds would wrap the kitchen area. These blinds would control wind and shade. When the kitchen was not in use these four blinds would completely protect the kitchen from weather.
HI MAC Solid Acrylic was selected for part of the benchtop. Arctic Granite had the appropriate UV properties. Stainless Steel with a Linen finish was used for the remainder of the benchtop which was to wrap around the BBQ and additional side burner. Faces to doors and drawers was constructed with HIMAC acrylic with timber slats added.
An integrated dishwasher would deal with dirty dishes. A bin system and waste disposal unit would take care of all rubbish. Storage for crockery, cutlery and glassware would avoid having to fetch or return objects to the main upstairs kitchen. Storage for BBQ accessories together with oil and spices was included.
Dual Fridges allowed for beverages and prepared food to be stored.

This kitchen was designed by two Bilotta designers, Randy O’Kane and Danielle Florie in concert with Murphy Brothers Contracting and Tim Button of Stedila Design Inc. It is in an existing home which was renovated with an eye to the original structure and neighborhood in Rye. The kitchen itself was an addition, as well as the family room adjacent to the kitchen. The interior wall of the kitchen was the exterior brick of the existing structure. The Waterworks Grove Brickworks tile gives the appearance of the “old” existing brick but painted. The concept was to create a new kitchen with all the up-to-date technology and accessories, but with the feel of an old scullery. We used 1” thick shaker-style Bilotta Collection cabinetry in a custom paint on the perimeter and a custom stain and texture on rift cut white oak for the island. The tall pantry larders cap off the runs of countertop allowing for work tops at each vignette. By using a column refrigerator and freezer in different sizes, we could address refrigeration needs while also addressing symmetry. The Wolf range and the fireplace in the family room are centered on each other which you can see by peeking through to each room. Reclaimed floor and beams help to give this new room that “lived-in” look. Although this kitchen is big enough for catering a large party, it still has a warm family feel with a layout that will serve both functions.

Example of a large mid-century modern u-shaped medium tone wood floor open concept kitchen design in Seattle with an undermount sink, flat-panel cabinets, light wood cabinets, quartz countertops, black backsplash, cement tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances and an island

This narrow lot villa was designed for the empty nester second home market. It caters to those possibly downsizing or just wanting a maintenance free second home. It’s width from the street is immediately brought to suspicion by an expansive Great Room. The spacious kitchen with island and serving bar open onto the view beyond. The Master Suite is entered through a double doored private Foyer. Rounding out this homes many features is the “L” shaped outdoor Patio with outdoor kitchen. sThis home truly defies what many believe are the limiting factors of narrow lot home plans.
