Retaining all the character of a 1923 whimsical while expanding to meet the needs of an active family of five. This classic and timeless transformation strikes a beautiful balance between the charm of the existing home and the opportunities to realize something custom. First, we reclaimed the attached one-car garage for a much-needed command central kitchen - organized in zones for cooking, dining, gathering, scheduling, homework and entertaining. With a devotion to design, a stunning, custom, nickel Ann Morris pot rack was chosen as a focal point, appliances were concealed with painted, raised-panel cabinetry and finishes like white quartzite countertops, white fireclay sinks and dark stained floors added just the right amount of light and color. Outside the bustle of the family space, the previous kitchen became a butler’s pantry and richly-paneled library for reading, relaxing and enjoying cigars. The addition of a mud room, family room, and a wonderful space we lovingly call “The Jewel Room” for its heightened luxurious detail, completed the perfect remodel – opening up new space for the busy children, while providing comfortable respites for their happy parents.

The Cabana serves as gathering place for family, friends, children and adults alike. With a commanding view of the Central Texas hill country it is the perfect focal point to the pool area. The structure was designed with very high ceilings and a great deal of volume to allow for ample air movement on a hot summer day. The cooking/entertainment area were designed with plenty of room for guests at the bar or around the food prep area. The real focal point is the seating group that allows for conversations, watching the game or enjoying the beautiful pool. We specifically specified the lounge chairs to swivel 360 degree to make sure adults could easily keep an eye on younger children. Beautiful fabrics and furnishings make this the meeting place for all their outdoor fun.

This traditional chef’s kitchen was designed for two homeowners who love to cook for family and friends. It features ivory full overlay cabinets with a dark brown glaze, striking Titanium Black granite countertops and niche, and a white natural stone subway tile backsplash. There are three built-in shelves for cookbooks. A "Command Central" upper kitchen cabinet has corkboard on the back of the cabinet door and a quad outlet to neatly file and store incoming mail and family papers. A soffit with 5 MR16 recessed lights hangs over a bar height countertop with two barstools and a built-in beverage refrigerator.

This client grew up in this 1950’s family home and has now become owner in his adult life. Designing and remodeling this childhood home that the client was very bonded and familiar with was a tall order. This modern twist of original mid-century style combined with an eclectic fusion of modern day materials and concepts fills the room with a powerful presence while maintaining its clean lined austerity and elegance. The kitchen was part of a grander complete home re-design and remodel. A modern version of a mid-century His and Hers grand master bathroom was created to include all the amenities and nothing left behind! This bathroom has so much noticeable and hidden “POW” that commands its peaceful spa feeling with a lot of attitude. Maintaining ultra-clean lines yet delivering ample design interest at every detail, This bathroom is eclectically a one of a kind luxury statement. The concept in the laundry room was to create a simple, easy to use and clean space with ample storage and a place removed from the central part of the home to house the necessity of the cats and their litter box needs. There was no need for glamour in the laundry room yet we were able to create a simple highly utilitarian space. If there is one room in the home that requires frequent visitors to thoroughly enjoy with a huge element of surprise, it’s the powder room! This is a room where you know that eventually, every guest will visit. Knowing this, we created a bold statement with layers of intrigue that would leave ample room for fun conversation with your guests upon their prolonged exit. We kept the lights dim here for that intriguing experience of crafted elegance and created ambiance. The walls of peeling metallic rust are the welcoming gesture to a powder room experience of defiance and elegant mystical complexity. It's a lucky house guest indeed who gets to stay in this newly remodeled home. This on-suite bathroom allows them their own space and privacy. Both Bedroom and Bathroom offer plenty of storage for an extended stay. Rift White Oak cabinets and sleek Silestone counters make a lovely combination in the bathroom while the bedroom showcases textured white cabinets with a dark walnut wrap. This expansive, custom-fabricated industrial credenza serves as a commanding centerpiece, masterfully blending a heavy-duty, dark welded steel skeleton with the warm, organic grain of solid wood. The entire unit is unified by a substantial solid wood countertop and matching side panels, providing a sophisticated contrast to the robust metal framework. The storage configuration is designed for both display and hidden organization. The top section features a row of alternating solid wood drawer fronts and industrial expanded metal mesh panels, offering versatile utility. Below, the main storage bay consists of solid wood cabinet doors flanking a central section enclosed by expanded metal mesh. Every door and drawer front is meticulously encased in a custom-welded heavy steel frame, which highlights the premium barrel hinges and the architectural strength of the overall design.

Yavapai Cabin sits in the middle of a steep mountain in an Arizona conifer forest. A clearing on the slope was made by the owner, with a vision to create a cabin immersed within the tree canopies. Upward Architecture approached the project with two design options, exploring different ways to bring filtered light into the living spaces. Both options propose a plan with a central kitchen and living space, with sleeping suites on either side. A simple shed roof opens up to the commanding views of this Yavapai County forest, from all rooms.
