Objective: With pending retirement of one spouse, an integrated office/study was a critical need for this couple. Design an office incorporating antique 50’s globe lights, antique library table, an original chandelier from the home, and a Barcelona chair from the previous home. Solution: Rift sawn oak cabinets, with “floating” glass shelves to display clients’ love of books, travel, and family collectibles all come together as a room perfectly fitting their needs. Sharp clean lines, horizontal wood grain, light gray stain, all combined with deep aubergine created contrast, while also adding warmth and a spot to read and relax.

Custom multi-ring LED chandelier installation in a luxury oceanfront residence. The fixture required precise cable suspension, leveling, and integrated dimmable LED driver configuration to complement the home's clean architectural lines and expansive ocean views. Careful alignment and balance were critical to ensure the rings float perfectly within the space while maintaining symmetry from multiple viewing angles.

A tiny jewel box apartment nestled into the landmarked neighborhood of Forest Hills, this renovation included custom work in every corner. In order to maximize space, uneven walls on the window wall were built out to become storage spaces. The kitchen, clad in a clean solid surface material, houses hidden storage spots. Attention to detail was critical throughout this space. The floors are made of solid, wide plank white oak, and they meet along the main divide of the apartment to form a chevron spine. Madrona Passive House, a new Seattle home designed by SHED Architecture & Design and built by Hammer & Hand, combines contemporary design with high performance building to create an environmentally responsive and resource-efficient house. The home’s airtight, super-insulated building envelope and passive design minimize energy consumption while providing superior thermal comfort to occupants. A heat recovery ventilator supplies constant fresh air to the home’s interior while recovering 90% of thermal energy from exhaust air for reuse inside. A rooftop solar photovoltaic array will provide enough energy to offset most, perhaps all, of the home’s energy consumption on a net annual basis. To manage stormwater the project employs permeable pavers for site hardscape and two cisterns to capture and control rainwater from the home’s roof and the green roof on the garage. By investing in sustainable site development strategies, efficient building systems and an advanced envelope, the project aims to respect the home’s environmentally critical site and achieve one of the world’s most demanding building energy standards: Passive House. This is a permitted project in an Environmentally Critical Area of Seattle. Full survey and geotechnical reports were needed as well as changes to the best management practices during install.

BON APPETIT. What do good cooking and good design have in common? Both rely on only a few simple ingredients to satisfy. For these repeat clients, it was a modern mix of glass and lacquer that would whet their appetite. Critical to the design was a clear view to the home’s private outdoor space.
