This gourmet chef’s kitchen uses Pro Style GE Monogram appliances; Double ovens, oversized built in refrigeration, a 48” pro gas range top, and sleek and concealed microwave. A farmhouse sink, a prep sink, and pot filler create ample opportunities for cooking and cleaning up together with family and friends. The white perimeter cabinets are contrasted with a grey color at the large island and custom wood hood. The shape of the island allows for diner to face each other for great conversations over great meals. The black and brass orb pendants offer a fun contrast and a visually interesting design feature. White and grey quartz counters give the look of marble without any of the maintenance. Artisan style ceramic grey hi gloss backsplash tile adds a layer of hand made appeal and allow light to bounce off from various angles and facets.

By removing a major wall, we were able to completely open up the kitchen and dining nook to the large family room and built in bar and wine area. The family room has a great gas fireplace with marble accent tile and rustic wood mantel. The matching dual French doors lead out to the pool and outdoor living areas, as well as bring in lots of natural light. The bar area has a sink and faucet, undercounter refrigeration, tons of counter space and storage, and connects to the attached wine display area. The pendants are black, brass and clear glass which bring in an on trend, refined look.

Everyone loves a good before and after story. Whether it’s the ugly duckling or Cinderella, the basic story is the same. Something undesirable and unattractive is transformed into something beautiful. I recently completed an architectural project that is a perfect example of this concept. An old dilapidated waterfront cottage (very common in Anne Arundel County) had become an eyesore. In this case the use of new, updated materials with a fresh color palette solved the problems. A metal roof, hardishingle siding, windows and porches are the basic building blocks for the new and improved skin. Finishing touches such as the exposed rafter tail detail, manicured landscaping and new fixtures all helped to add character. This cottage is all decked out and ready to continue its life in style. Amazing what a facelift can do for a house! Photography by Michael McLaughlin
