Cantoni is Designer's Choice for this Palatial Home in South Carolina. Cantoni partners on many projects with architects, interior designers, developers, realtors and others in the trade. The featured project in this eNewsletter is a spectacular example of a recent partnering between Susan Sentell ASID, Beaux Monde, Inc., Cumming, Georgia, and Design Consultant Kohl Sudnikovich of Cantoni Atlanta. While inspired by classic Italian architecture, this palatial home is not in the foothills of Italy’s Apennines but in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in South Carolina. When we saw the images of this stunning home and what went into planning and executing its interiors, I thought: here’s a perfect illustration of Cantoni’s branding theme: Great Design Is A Way of Life. Design isn’t just something cosmetic, something tacked on, but the very essence of a residence’s personality and of the personality of the people who make the house a home. This sensational South Carolina project is a superb example of Cantoni’s Great Design theme brought to life. According to Kohl, Cantoni’s involvement kicked in when Susan, whom he’d worked with before, contacted him to consult on furniture collections that would help her fulfill her and her client’s overall design theme. Susan says, "This is a 5,800-sq. ft. new construction designed by a prestigious national architectural group. Given the Mediterranean-influenced elevation and the client’s wish for an airy, Italian-contemporary interior treatment I felt Cantoni was the best source for furnishing some of the main rooms. "The theme of our project we called, ‘The Goddess House’ for its ethereal look and feel– open, warm, free, filled with light and natural colors, flowing with sophisticated detail. I felt Cantoni was the right choice to help us carry out the theme. I knew Cantoni not only for its Italian design but for the quality of its products and depth and breadth of its selection. "After creating furniture plans and the overall palette, I contacted Kohl and asked him to consult with us on Cantoni pieces that would realize our plans for the living room, dining room, master bedroom, media room and outdoor. "The finished product is a beautiful example of what you can achieve when the vision of the client and the skills of the design team are in alignment. I think the feeling you get in this home is a manifestation of that harmony.” Thanks so much to Susan for choosing Cantoni and for her client for generously allowing us to show the interiors of the rooms with Cantoni product. And good job Kohl and the Cantoni Atlanta team for your efforts–not the least of which were the logistics involved in delivery and installation, this home being a great distance from Atlanta. Great Design IS a Way of Life. That theme works at many levels: alluding to our clients’ tastes and dreams and sophistication, the product itself, and the creative talents of the designers.

A vacant, worn office space should be transformed into a show apartment / showroom. The existing space had been used as an office structure since the 1960s. Located on the 4th floor of a ten-floor reinforced concrete skeleton, the area is already high enough to receive a great amount of light, which is particularly noticeable at dawn and dusk: sunrises and sunsets conjure up the most spellbinding blends of light.
The existing structure and also the technical equipment were completely outdated and needed to be completely rebuilt: suspended ceilings were removed and walls changed. The result is a modern city apartment of almost 100 m2 (about 1,070 sqft) – divided into a large living space, 2 rooms, 1 bathroom, 1 powder room and 1 utility room. The existing window facades could not be changed, but they are part of the concept anyway, namely to bring as much light as possible into the room. A controlled ventilation system ensures optimal air quality even with closed windows. The central kitchen element serves as a kind of separation of the living area and the dining area. Here customers and guests are served, people communicate, cook together, drink a glass of wine. Clients experience living.
The rough reinforced concrete ribbed slaps were uncovered and painted white to give the room more height, which is accentuated by the lighting concept with ceiling-mounted spotlights. The dark oak floor creates a successful contrast to the brightly designed rooms. The wittily positioned pedestal areas hide all technical elements, such as the supply air openings of the living room ventilation. Flush-fitting door elements in the walls with a chalked brick look show in detail the special feature of the room. The central wall elements were deliberately not pulled up to the ceiling, but are separated by a glass element to show the continuity of the construction.
Most of the furniture was designed by Wolfgang Pichler. Within the course of this project he was able to implement his holistic approach in the field of construction technology, architecture and furniture design and skillfully combine it with design classics. Scandinavian classics can be found in the concept just as much as pieces he collected during his career and furniture he developed for the company VITEO, which he founded in 2002. The project illustrates the added value of an architectural holistic approach.

Making a real impression by designing & building with exceptional people is exactly the effect JL Design & the client as owner-builder have achieved with “Scarborough House” in Scarborough, NSW. The brief required the dwelling to take maximum advantage of stunning views over the ocean & nearby escarpment cliffs. The residence was also to be a contemporary modernist four bedroom family dwelling, maximising built external living & pool areas. The client was extensively involved with the overall design, & carried out material selection, interior detailing and selection of fixtures and fittings. This collective method guaranteed a result where the client as the builder, through continued personal investment throughout the design and construction achieved a stunning result. The concrete, steelwork, windows, timber & various forms of cladding, joinery and concealed lighting are all custom made hand crafted elements. The design called for minimal tolerances, requiring a high level of skill and cooperation between trades. “Scarborough House” features BlueScope Colorbond monument matt ribbed wall cladding with rendered & ‘rendered look’ areas in off-white. A vertical feature hardwood timber screen to the side of the entry softens the ‘industrial’ feel, giving a modernist external appearance. Carefully calculated overhangs allow a passive solar solution to heating & cooling, with efficient reverse-cycle air conditioning required only during weather extremes. Internally, timber floors to the upper living areas give a feel of comfort & warmth. The warm, substantial character of the dwelling is carefully composed by means of the clarity of the detailing, a palette of tactical natural materials and the careful manipulation of light.

As always searching for the lucky find, the original of this e30s Navy spotlight was unearthed in an antique store in Greenwich, England. In a way the light is a wonderful combination of old technology, romantic seafaring and practical lighting. Perched on its imposing rosewood tripod the light dominates, adding character to a room, an important element in today's design philosophy. Our replica is exclusive to AM, hand-crafted of brass and aluminum. This is signature AM for those who value master craftsmanship and technical skills.
A great addition to a now much appreciated collection of spotlights and signal lamps.

“Whole house remodel” is a pale description of this home’s complete re-imagining collectively achieved by architect Marty Buckenmeyer, interior designers at bright designlab, and builder Hammer & Hand. After clearing out the segmented living room walls and design stylings hailing from the 70s and 80s, H&H built a modern dwelling with an addition, open living and kitchen area, and eclectic details throughout. All new double-paned windows running the length of the common area wall brighten the space with treetop-framed views of Portland beyond.
Hammer & Hand’s carpenters flexed their skills with many fine carpentry details including a custom metal bomber door produced by our woodshop, wood-panel wall with grain-matched hidden pop-out doors, and a steel and concrete fireplace hearth with built-in cabinets.

This custom wine cellar was designed and built by Vintage Wine Cellars in 2020. We worked 100% remotely with this client to create a beautiful and functional space in unfinished redwood. This wine cellar's wine racking has many versatile features to store different sizes and styles of wines and wine bottles, such as tiered coved trays for large format wine bottles, high reveal display rows, individual bottle storage, Original Wooden Cases, and custom cabinetry.
The unique shape and design of this room required a skilled contractor like Vintage Wine Cellars to design and create a completely custom wine cellar - perfectly fit to the shape and flow of the room.
This client's room was actually huge - but he just didn't have the need to fill it completely with wine (maybe one day!) The front and rear walls are both fitted with custom racking, divided by open space and a large marble countertop. This room would lend itself perfectly to enjoying a nice bottle or three with some friends as there is plenty of space to walk around and mingle, as well as counter space begging to be used to decant those fantastic bottles.
Custom Wine Cellars such as this are more common in traditional style homes, as the decor matches very well with the rustic motif. There are so many different styles and paths you can choose for racking and design nowadays. Traditional Racking such as this can have limitless variations and design features to properly store your unique collection - one of the many reasons we love wooden wine cellars.
Since 1990, Vintage Cellars has designed and built over 2,750 custom wine cellars in a wide range of styles and applications. Vintage Cellars offers a complete turnkey service (if needed), providing initial wine cellar design options, proper room preparation with vapor barrier and insulation, proper wine cellar cooling unit sizing and installation, wine racking fabrication with custom stain and lacquer options done in house, and final professional installation onsite. We can also design and ship the wine racking without install. We regularly work with Interior Designers, Architects, and Home Builders as well and can help carry out visions already in movement too.
Gene Walder, Jake Austad, and the team at Vintage Cellars specialize in Custom Wine Cellar Design and Consultation, Custom Wine Cellar Cooling Systems, Custom Wine Cellar Doors, Wine Cellar Racking, and everything else wine storage related. By working closely with clients, the team at Vintage Cellars is able to craft a wine storage space to match the collectors' vision and style.

How Hard Can It Be?
We worked with one of our past client’s mothers “Marianne” who is in her 80’s. One of her careers was being a travel consultant, where she traveled worldwide, wining and dining at many famous restaurants and hotels. Now that she was downsizing, she wanted a way to display the menus she had collected. We thought about putting them under glass if she wanted to use them again, but when we came up with the idea of encasing them in resin, she became very excited about the project.
My skilled craftsmen have the confidence to be willing to try new things. This project wasn’t the first time I have put a task in front of them and got the response “How Hard Can It Be?”. My carpenter, Victor, made one test sample resin project in his shop, and he was off and running. Marianne and I worked out the layout, and Victor did the rest. Marianne is delighted with how the countertop turned out, and she is showing it off to her new neighbors and family.
There were also other minor improvements to her condo.
— Installed the cabinets under the countertop
— Turned a useless, wet bar closet into a panty with matching cabinet fronts, installed new closets doors — Swapped out all the outlets and switched that had yellowed
— Moved a vent for a wine fridge and finished carpentry so the refrigerator would fit
— Repaired existing kitchen cabinets
— Repaired the veranda sliding glass door
— Re-caulk the bathroom
