“With the open-concept floor plan, this kitchen needed to have a galley layout,” Ellison says. A large island helps delineate the kitchen from the other rooms around it. These include a dining area directly behind the kitchen and a living room to the right of the dining room. This main floor also includes a small TV lounge, a powder room and a mudroom. The house sits on a slope, so this main level enjoys treehouse-like canopy views out the back. The bedrooms are on the walk-out lower level.“These homeowners liked grays and neutrals, and their style leaned contemporary,” Ellison says. “They also had a very nice art collection.” The artwork is bright and colorful, and a neutral scheme provided the perfect backdrop for it. They also liked the idea of using durable laminate finishes on the cabinetry. The laminates have the look of white oak with vertical graining. The galley cabinets are lighter and warmer, while the island has the look of white oak with a gray wash for contrast. The countertops and backsplash are polished quartzite. The quartzite adds beautiful natural veining patterns and warm tones to the room.

The owners colorful book collection is displayed atop the mantle along with local artwork. A large leaning mirror adds a causal touch and reflects light throughout the room. The designer provided wall and trim paint colors, furniture, lighting, art, accessories, furnishing selections, and layout.

How cool is this? We designed a pull-out tower, in three sections, beside "her" sink, to give the homeowner handy access for her make-up and hair care routine. We even installed the mirror exactly for her height! The sides of the pull-out were done in metal, to maximize the interior width of the shelves, and we even customized it so that the widest items she wanted to store in here would fit on these shelves!

Relocating to Portland, Oregon from California, this young family immediately hired Amy to redesign their newly purchased home to better fit their needs. The project included updating the kitchen, hall bath, and adding an en suite to their master bedroom. Removing a wall between the kitchen and dining allowed for additional counter space and storage along with improved traffic flow and increased natural light to the heart of the home. This galley style kitchen is focused on efficiency and functionality through custom cabinets with a pantry boasting drawer storage topped with quartz slab for durability, pull-out storage accessories throughout, deep drawers, and a quartz topped coffee bar/ buffet facing the dining area. The master bath and hall bath were born out of a single bath and a closet. While modest in size, the bathrooms are filled with functionality and colorful design elements. Durable hex shaped porcelain tiles compliment the blue vanities topped with white quartz countertops. The shower and tub are both tiled in handmade ceramic tiles, bringing much needed texture and movement of light to the space. The hall bath is outfitted with a toe-kick pull-out step for the family’s youngest member!

The 3,400 SF, 3 – bedroom, 3 ½ bath main house feels larger than it is because we pulled the kids’ bedroom wing and master suite wing out from the public spaces and connected all three with a TV Den. Convenient ranch house features include a porte cochere at the side entrance to the mud room, a utility/sewing room near the kitchen, and covered porches that wrap two sides of the pool terrace. We designed a separate icehouse to showcase the owner’s unique collection of Texas memorabilia. The building includes a guest suite and a comfortable porch overlooking the pool. The main house and icehouse utilize reclaimed wood siding, brick, stone, tie, tin, and timbers alongside appropriate new materials to add a feeling of age.

The Maya Collection is a modular seating system comprising a number of pieces that can be configured in multiple variations, allowing for endless possibilities of composition and dimension. Our clients were looking for a new look for their home and to accommodate their blended family. They wanted cohesive plans that reflected her traditional, feminine style and his rock and roll lifestyle. They leaned into our designs and the results are a perfect combo of his and hers. The highlights of this project include the family room, powder room and primary suite remodels. The warm and moody family room boasts custom built-ins, a custom sound system and display space for His music collection. The powder room is bold and feminine at the same time with Detroit Wallpaper, custom wainscoting, and marble tile. The Great Gatsby styled primary bathroom combines marble flooring with a tile rug, black and white tile, and a dark traditional vanity – it’s a his and hers dream!

In the kitchen, we reworked the layout to improve flow and maximize storage, creating a space that feels both elevated and highly functional. A softly curved island anchors the room and was designed to encourage gathering while adding a sense of ease at the heart of the home. A modern coastal palette guided the design, with layered blues adding depth while keeping the overall feel light, fresh, and enduring. In the powder bath, we leaned into a more old world sensibility, introducing classic wallpaper and tailored millwork to create a space that feels collected, cohesive, and quietly impactful. The result is a home that feels thoughtfully updated, honoring its past while fully embracing the way it is meant to be lived in today.
