Décor AidTo create a soothing oasis for our busy bicoastal client, like we did for her Bay Area residence, we took cues from her petite NYC apartment’s architectural features and floor to ceiling windows as a foundational starting point for a luxurious interior design upgrade boasting brilliant décor and personality.
And to make the space have a similar feel to her San Francisco home, Décor Aid’s interior designer Victoria C. set about to create the same sense of comfort and consistency that we did for her first project with us.
Centered around her modern art collection, our client wanted a modern, fun, comfortable, and casual interior design upgrade for her apartment that boasted a light and airy feel along with a pulled-together sense of everyday urban glamor.
From room to room, Victoria’s main objective was to create a quick budget-friendly turnaround with furnishings that were neither too precious or required custom construction – everything needed to be ready on the go as you can imagine for a client with such a heavy, frequent commute.
For the living room, a transitional sectional in a rich purple hue was brought in for an easy sense of relaxed drama, was finished with pillows in complimentary jewel tones, and punctuated with a graphic cubist wall hanging featuring tonal shades of matte and muted gold.
In order to break away from the rooms angular lined furnishings, a rounded glass-topped coffee table was sourced to also make the living room appear larger than it is. And a white sculptural Eames chaise was introduced as a conversation starter and juxtaposition to the indulgent color scheme of the other furnishings.
For the den, Victoria placed a playful boldly hued collaged wall hanging above a somewhat traditional gray couch to emphasize a non-fussy approach to the room’s décor. While a modern rustic shelving unit was introduced to do triple duty as an entertainment center, a mini-library, and a spot to highlight decorative objects and collectibles.

Bilotta Kitchen & HomeLocation was a key factor for the developer of these 72 luxury beachfront condominiums in New Rochelle, NY, offering prime real estate with spectacular water views, all within a short commute to New York City. An unusual aspect of this project was the developer’s commitment to offer prospective buyers completely customizable interior buildouts. The architect and developer teamed with Bilotta to devise a program offering 17 stains, 17 paint finishes and a variety of door styles, giving homeowners total control of their kitchen and bathroom details and accessories, a significant and successful selling point.
In this particular unit, sand, surf, and sunshine are transported indoors with light-reflecting white cabinetry atop natural oak flooring, punctuated by a slate blue island that seats five. Practical blue-gray quartz countertops are a complementary echo of the island’s hue. A generous molding treatment emphasizes the tall ceiling height. There’s plenty of room for two pantry cabinets, as well as a wine refrigerator in the island. “Flying Saucer” island pendants and a cubist dining chandelier add contemporary flair.

Cantoni Los AngelesIt’s warm in Southern California, and that’s exactly the feeling Andy and Liz sought to maintain inside their new Tuscan-style home as they embarked on a modern interior makeover. After all, the couple had two small children and a dog to consider. Empty and austere simply wasn’t a good fit for the young family whose interests include photography, art and lots of Lego’s.
Andy, an engineer, became intrigued with Cantoni after driving past the Irvine location on his daily commute. It wasn’t long before he and Liz decided to venture into the Los Angeles showroom, and that’s where they met Bernadette. By all accounts, the trio made for great collaboration, and the project that began in February 2012 is still a work in progress today.
“We were impressed by Bernadette,” says Andy. “We liked her and her work, and she won us over.”
The project began with pictures sent and an in-home walk-through where measurements were taken. The couple knew they wanted furnishings for the living, dining and family rooms, as well as the media room and a study. They were open to art and accent pieces, and hoped to incorporate natural elements into the mix. Bernadette set to work.
“It was fun touring our LA showroom and listening to Liz and Andy discuss their likes and dislikes. One thing was for sure,” she adds, “the Laguna Sectional was going in their theater room even if we needed to knock out a wall!”
UpstairsPhase I of the job is complete (as you can see from the stunning images), but instead of parting ways, Andy and Liz decided to have Bernadette help re-imagine the master bedroom and kitchen, next. The ongoing nature of this project illustrates a trend we see with most of our clients: we build trusted, long-term relationships. Freund StudioThis simple deck serves as a bridge and an entry. We added this as part of a house addition for a graphic designer's at home office....this is their "commute" to work.
Jacobson ConstructionThis beautifully designed home is located on secluded property with multiple private views of a nature preserve, yet only a short commute to downtown Minneapolis. The owners hired Jacobson Construction to update their master bathroom and the result is amazing.
The design called for a bright, warm and comfortable space, so we began with a heated floor for those cold Minnesota nights using 12” X 24” gray porcelain bath tile and neutral grout. The custom built-in walnut vanity has a satin finish with brushed nickel hardware and a green-and-gray toned granite countertop.
The vanity includes two undermounted sinks with brushed nickel Kohler faucets. Each sink has two matching sconce lights and a large mirror. One feature the owners really enjoy is the in-cabinet and in-drawer electrical outlets – perfect for keeping the counter free of things like electric toothbrushes and hair dryers. They also love the custom two-level jewelry-organizing drawer.
The bath’s centerpiece may be the white Kohler freestanding soaking tub with brushed nickel faucet, situated in front of a large window overlooking the nature preserve.
A 4’ x 4’ walk-in glass shower features dark gray 2” X 2” porcelain floor tile with neutral grout, 12” X 24” porcelain tile on the back wall, a granite corner seat to match the countertops, and brushed nickel Kohler showerhead.
The bath's walls are painted light green, with an additional white textured tile in a horizontal wave pattern that begins in the shower and extends to the wall behind the tub.
Recessed can, undercabinet toe-kick and sconce lights—all on dimmers--bring this room to life. The undercabinet lighting is wired with a motion sensor switch to function as a night light.
“Our only regret is that we didn’t take pictures of the bathroom before the remodel. It’s that much of an improvement!” The owners shared: “We're really enjoying the refreshed room. So far we’ve added a bright, colorful runner on the floor, and are in search of the perfect artwork to complement the wavy tile wall behind the tub.”
