Black Lacquer DesignA hidden gem tucked away in Atwater Village, the home has been renovated a time or two in ways that obscured its original charms. As is sadly often the case with homes of its era in Los Angeles, the kitchen and bathroom were completely gutted at some point and filled with builder-grade finishes unaligned with the inherent architecture of the home. On such jobs, our modus operandi is to reinfuse the spaces with details that harken back to the very best elements of the home’s original style while weaving in timeless touches of both modern life and the personality of the homeowner. In the bathroom, this method resulted in an eclectic, feminine heart-to-heart between the unruly imperfections of the handmade and the more orderly lines of the meticulously tailored. And what else could come from such a love story but a blue dream of a bathroom fit for a mermaid?
Authentic InteriorsRemember the boy's bath in this home was a bedroom, well the Master Bath featured here gained a beautiful two person walk in shower in this transformation as well! The previous super cozy (OK way too small) bath had a single sink only 24" Wide, we arranged the new Master to have double sinks here in this 48" Wide vanity. A major plus!

Cathie Hong InteriorsThis 1956 John Calder Mackay home had been poorly renovated in years past. We kept the 1400 sqft footprint of the home, but re-oriented and re-imagined the bland white kitchen to a midcentury olive green kitchen that opened up the sight lines to the wall of glass facing the rear yard. We chose materials that felt authentic and appropriate for the house: handmade glazed ceramics, bricks inspired by the California coast, natural white oaks heavy in grain, and honed marbles in complementary hues to the earth tones we peppered throughout the hard and soft finishes. This project was featured in the Wall Street Journal in April 2022.

Adrienne DeRosaCleverly designed, the pool house doubles as a shed and workshop on one side of the building. Raymond saved the shed doors from a job that he had gotten tearing down an old barn. The doors allow the entire front of the shed to open up, while their rustic finish carries on the aesthetic of the rest of the yard.
Jennifer's 1963 International Harvester is another great score, and seemed almost meant to be. Found on Ebay, the truck came to her after deals on other vehicles fell through. "All of a sudden this truck was for sale on Ebay, and it was on my street a few houses away; I couldn't believe it," says Jennifer. Although she was initially outbid for the truck, the day after the auction she was notified that the winner had forfeited the sale, "So I am the lucky owner of 'Harvey'", she says with a smile.
