The design team for this project gave Valders Stone & Marble, Inc. the following design objective: “Situated on the eastern shore of Long Island, the design of this beach house is conceived as emerging from the landscape. The house is composed of two elements: the main house and a pavilion situated on a base that extends into the landscape.
From the driveway entrance on the northern side, the house appears as a largely solid, stone-clad volume with rectangular perforations for the windows. In contrast, the more private southern façade is composed almost entirely of glass to maximize ocean views and sun exposure. What initially presents itself as a classic modern box unfolds to become an unexpectedly open sculptural figure.”
The design firm chose a warm beige/buff color palette for their design. The material needed to hold a specific color range, and the stone needed to be suitable for a multitude of applications.Additionally, the material needed to perform well when installed horizontally and vertically in close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
The unique performance characteristics and color of Wisconsin Dolomite made it the obvious choice for the project.
Valders Dolomitic limestone was used in several facets of this stunning modern design. Applications of the material included, but were not limited to: blind anchored exterior façade panels, light weight honeycomb panels for soffit/overhang applications, interior and exterior
paving, pedestal paving, pool coping, weir stones, stair treads, site walls, landscape/hardscape applications, and stone in its raw/natural form.
Eleven months lapsed between the setting of the first stone and the installation of the fire pit. Given the complexity of the project and the time frame for completion, the entire team of architects,
engineers and builders combined their efforts to make this truly a dream come true.

The ultra modern and industrial styling of the facade is both functional and beautiful. All exterior siding systems are resilient to weather. The unique white paneling is ACM panel which we fabricated off-site from our specialty contractors to give a seamless finish. The simplicity of using only two colors creates an impactful and unique exterior façade that is like no other.
The windows are all commercial grade with aluminum on both the exterior and interior. This is unique, as they were the first to be implemented in this style in Ottawa. These windows are a key design feature of the house, spanning from floor to ceiling (10 foot). The unique window systems created complexity to the project, however, we ensured industrial sealants were used to protect the window returns. We often utilize commercial applications in residential to increase the quality where necessary.

Full home renovation of a Burnaby single-family home completed over nine months. The project involved a complete structural rework of the main floor to create an open-concept layout, including steel beam installation to remove load-bearing walls, a full kitchen renovation, 4.5 bathroom renovations, new HVAC throughout, and structural repairs across the home.
The scale and complexity of this project required careful sequencing — structural work, mechanical systems, and finish trades coordinated across an occupied neighbourhood site over a nine-month build. Every scope was managed under one process by Roka Projects, from engineer coordination and permit applications through to final finishes. This project showcases the practical and aesthetic application of high-performance outdoor bamboo decking for a staircase and walkway in a challenging forest environment. Our challenge was to create a durable and safe passage that respects the delicate ecosystem. The chosen bamboo material is specifically engineered for exterior use, offering exceptional resistance to moisture, insects, and decay—making it an ideal choice for this setting.
The design focuses on clean lines and a non-invasive footprint. The installation required precise engineering to ensure stability and longevity on the uneven terrain. The result is a robust and low-maintenance pathway that provides secure footing while blending beautifully with the surroundings. This project demonstrates our commitment to using innovative, sustainable materials to solve complex landscape design challenges.
